Recent Price increases changing OOP vs DDP?

With the recent drink increases and now BOG breakfast increased. I'm really questioning my decision to go OOP vs getting the DDP. When I crunched the numbers before our trip we would likely be saving about $200 going OOP. My trip is in just over 2 weeks and now it's like oh crap I need to recheck all my restaurant menus and planned CS and figure out if it's still more cost effective to do OOP.

Is anyone else questioning or rethinking there choice?

I’m not. Heading down end of a month for a wedding. We have many wedding events so a dining plan makes no sense.

But this could be the tipping point for many people. It also price protects you against additional increases

No we haven't. If we were going for "free dining" I would definitely get the DDP but I still don't think it's worth it for us when paying OOP.

I think this will tip people to get the DDP now. And Disney still wins. Now they are locking you into paying for the plan ahead of time and if you cancel an ADR or get sick and can't make it or aren't hungry and want a salad you are still putting money in Disney's pocket.

I know for us by mid trip our appetites die down. We may change an ADR or cancel a meal or start sharing or even skip meals because we are starting to get too full and sluggish.

Plus my kids are Disney adults but obviously can't drink. Not all places are allowing the adults to get the entitlements from the kids. If they allowed it across the board I would lean more towards the DDP.

Depends on the food preferences of your party - we opted not to get a DDP the last trip because my older DS was an "adult" meal at 10yo but there's not a blessed thing he'd eat off the adult menu. We also ordered breakfast, lunch and snack groceries before we arrived and only really bought food for dinner and possibly a snack or two. The cost of paying OOP was balanced by groceries and knowing DS could order what he liked anytime we were eating in the parks.

When we go next year, we might opt for just the QS plan, unless DS's tastes change drastically :)

No.

We don't eat a ton at Disney. We do a table service dinner, with more than one cocktail or glass of wine, usually want an appetizer, sometimes a few appetizers instead of entrees and don't eat dessert.

For lunch and breakfast we may each get our own counter service, split a counter service, eat popcorn instead, but eat nowhere near as much food as the plan gets us.

:)

I was on the fence before and I think this is the tipping point towards getting DDP. We are planning a BOG lunch so the inclusion of alcohol in that meal is a big plus. And, I think the new snack prices will put us at or around the break even point.

the fall trip when we are doing F&W, the DDP makes no sense for us. The spring trip, we'll have to see. It may make sense, but I doubt it.

If you were saving $200 by paying OOP, I can't see you wiping out that saving. Reduce it, sure, but the REP seems not worthwhile unless you end up being very, verh, very, very thirsty.

We did the calculation once and decide OOP was our best bet. Guess what? We were totally wrong. We discovered that we eat differently on vacation than when we are home. We ate more...a lot more. All that walking and playing works up an appetite.

I did the math today factoring in the increased prices and it still doesn’t benefit us to buy the dining plan. Initially I thought ooooh I can get a drink with meals and that type of stuff and then it dawned on me I almost never want one. We rarely get dessert with meals and if we do it is to share. Plus our tip expenses would go up. I will stick to paying OOP with AP discount when applicable.

When Disney added the alcohol to the DDP I wondered then if the DDP sales were slacking, so they upped the game to possibly help with that? But with this I think it is to cover cost of other stuff, but I bet it will increase the sales of the DDP.

Unless DDP is free, we don't get it. Our next trip will have us going with a fussy 10 year old, and like mentioned above, he won't eat full adult meals at sit down places. Plus, we're vegetarian, and you never make out ahead eating vegetarian on the DDP. :) And that's on top of the fact that we just don't eat the way the plan is set up. We'd much rather appetizers than desserts or would rather an extra side dish than an alcoholic beverage.

Right now, especially with the increases, the CS DDP seems to be the one we would most likely not lose a dime on. At the current price.

Did another chack and we are still better OOP vs DDP or CS DDP. Plus, I am sure the DDP price heck is not far away.

I know that even with or without the DDP, we will most likely start bringing in some drinks, water, ect. into the parks. As long as Disney will still allow that. We will be cutting down on the amount of snacks we buy there. And the main reason is not that we couldn't save the money and such, but I am no longer seeing the VALUE of that Mickey Ice Cream Bar, or a Coke at 4.50. But we are re-peat visitors, if I was a one and done, no I wouldn't do it.

But some of the CS locations are raising their prices too. This won't be limited too just snacks and such.

Nope because DDP is probably going up also. I always come out ahead with OOP unless DDP is free.
