Received invite to view webcast for VGC!

I'm here at the Grand Californian in my 1 BR Villa. I LOVE the villa. I made the mistake of watching the webcast from my laptop last night. I was totally disappointed in it. I thought at least they'd show the opening ceremony that they did early in the day. But as you know, they did not.

Pretty low key opening day, the ceremony was before I got here and I arrived at 11 am. No first guest gifts like they've done for other openings, the wine and cheese reception in the grand villa was a good idea but I thought it was poorly executed.

I thought a better idea would have been to have the wine and cheese in a ballroom and then take us in smaller groups to tour the grand villa, but instead, we all went to to grand villa and inched our way through it.

The webinar's ending left such a "hole" in the presentation. For 35 minutes they geared up for "Grand Opening" celebration events and then failed to deliver. I figured when Deevy dropped the cake and Nikki and Tommy went running off ... they would head to the events and take us with them. Instead, the talk ended with 20 minutes of scheduled time remaining. Strange? :confused3

On the bright side, I really enjoyed the Quartet during the pre-show. :yay:

Agreed. I wonder if there was a snaffoo of some type and they were supposed to play a tape of the opening ceremony from earlier in the day but instead cut to the wrong video???

Be interesting to hear if the other webinars are any better...

I am set up to watch tonight. I hope by not expecting much I'll get more out of it.:laughing: Was it all geared to current members? Did they mention any incentives for new members? Is it wrong to hope that because I am not yet a member I can get a better offer?:lmao:
It may be strange but is there a chance the webcast for last night was for current members and the webcast tonight will be directed to new members? I only had the option of the 24th and 26th to view the webcast.

I don't know, overall it just seemed like something you'd see on the late-night movie channel, not the slick production I was expecting. But what the heck, it's not like I had to buy admission or anything...so no big deal. (However, I honestly don't think they'll get the response they were expecting as far as add-on contracts.)

Well see I was expecting something that was NOT a production...I had some image of camera-people roaming the resort, being able to see the ongoing festivities and fun....

I was also hoping for more views of VGC itself. Like an idiot I sat through everyone's "memories" at the end-that was a full 15 minutes of our time!

At least I learned something- I didn't even know there was a MM penthouse for rent. How much $$ does it cost per night?---Kathy

I sat through it too, and it always upsets me to see some of those b/c I don't have grandparents that care, or care to go, or care to visit when they say they are going to visit...I will never have 4 generations of people around, etc etc...it doesn't fill my heart, it makes me sad for what I don't have. But I sat through it, thinking there was soemthing after....sigh.

What's WEIRD about them giving the themed rooms is that the Disneyland people were just told that they are getting *rid* of those rooms! Very weird.

There's a semi-recent trip report on the DLR forum where a friend of a Dis'er was checking in and kinda jokingly asked for an upgraded room...the CM went away and came back, and they were upgraded to the Penthouse...it can sleep, like, a gazillion, so the friend called the Dis'er and invited her and her family over...lovely pictures!

But the webcast was talking about that penthouse and about lower-level Mickey themed rooms...

I posted this on another thread:

"We were disappointed as well. We have a 100-point add on in the works and were waiting to sign the documents until we heard these incentives. Ours are much better (since there are none for 100 points :lmao:). We figured we had a great deal already, so we weren't "expecting" better incentives. Still, we hoped to see some of the actual resort - the GRAND OPENING of it. I didn't like that they toyed about the ribbon cutting. I was then expecting to see the ceremony and felt disappointed. We've already been to and seen the hotel and the models. Oh well. Guess we'll have to wait until we get back to CA in person."

I agree with what you all are saying. We didn't see what we wanted to see, and it didn't feel "over" to me at the end. We, too, were idiots that sat and watched all those memories. I'm sure those families are comprised of lovely people, but we got tired of listening. We just wanted to see the resort. Then it just shut off and said presentation over. Talk about a let down. It was a LATE night for me as well; I was a little disappointed that I didn't just go to bed. :confused3 Not the feeling I thought I would have after anticipating the event so much.

By the way - whoever suggested that some events are for members and some are for non-members: I wondered that as well. I figured they gave you a choice based on whether or not you currently own. I could be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time :rotfl:) but it seems like they would provide different information (and pricing) for non-members. Let us know what you see tonight!!!

Best part of the night! The Quartet made us want to go to Disneyland much more than Devee See!

Listening to the quarter right now..mine starts in 5 mins. Apparently this webcast sounds like a "dud", I shall soon see...

Tonights webcast was set up for non-members. It discussed points and usage. The incentives were $17-160pt. $19-200pt. it is pretty much $2 more than the member incentives. After what they were promoting in the summer it is a let down. I know the summer was construction incentives but I wouldn't mind seeing those prices again.

It is meant for members (which we aren't but watched anyway). I called last night to see if any incentives for new members. Tour guide said, "well this webcast is for members, but here are incentives for new members": At Grand Cal: 160 points=$17 off per point
200 points=19 off pp
270 points=19 off pp plus a $500 Disney gift card
320 points=20 off pp plus a one night stay in Disney penthouse (or waive the one night stay and get 22 off per point

At AKV: 160=12 off per point
200=14 off pp
320=15 off pp
