Rec'd phone call asking about my DVC contract

I know that there was a fraud alert posted on the Member's website a while back, so I just pulled it up. I was looking for the thread here that also discussed it but couldn't locate it using the search feature.

We did not take the call, but the person wanted us to call her back about our VWL contract which we purchased last year via resale. I am aware that records are open to the public, so I am assuming that this is where they got our names from. It was definitely not a call from Member Services, as it came in about 8 pm last night.

Just kind of freaked me out. Did anyone actually speak with the company that is trying to get personal information? Are they trying to make a sales pitch or is it some attempt at fraud on their part?

I kept the message on my answering machine because they did leave an 800 number. I am at work today so I do not have it on me to google it but I will later tonight.

Should I report it? Or am I just being paranoid, when I do not even know what they wanted to ask me in the first place?

The time could be a clue, or it could be irrelevant. Our guide (we bought in March) called us one night around 7ish pm, just wanted to say hi and if we had any questions! We know his voice, it was definitely him, despite the late hour.

I listened again to the message the girl left. It was definitely not my guide. I know her voice also.

It sounded like it was from a telemarketing center, as I could hear others talking and making calls in the background. It was probably some telemarketing scheme.

I don't think I will call back. If they call back I may ask them what they want and to take me off of their list. However, we are already on the Do Not Call list???

You want her to waste her Guides time because she got a phone call from someone and she is afraid to call them back.

Once in a while we get calls from out-of-the-blue from people wanting to know if we want to sell and offering their broker services. We just hang up.

I did google the 800 number that was left on my machine and I got an ad looking to hire people as telemarketers for a new timeshare brokerage / closing company based out of Orlando.

So more than likely it was a similar call to what some others have reported in regards to selling or buying other timeshare contracts. I am not going to pursue it in any other way, as I feel that I got the answer to my questions.

disneynutz- no offense taken. I just got nervous when I received the call and they specifically mentioned the add-on contract that we purchased in 2009, after having some recollection of the fraud alert issued last year. I was never able to find that thread that discussed it here however.

I also got a similiar phone call about a week ago. Asking if I wanted to sell. I said no and stated we are on a do not call list - the caller hung up immediately.

After listening more carefully to the message left, I could tell it came from a call center. The girl who left a message stated that she wanted to talk to us about our DVC WLV contract so she had information about the contract we purchased last year. But she did not identify herself as a Disney Cast member so I am quite sure it was a telemarketing timeshare sale call either looking to get us to sell ours or perhaps buy another.

Got two calls last week.
1.) Do we want to rent our DVC? Never had that before.

2.) From Hilton asking us to collect on a free vacation we won to Orando or Vegas. I assume it's a timeshare hard sell thing.We told them no but they called back two days later. I guess they don't understand big words like NO.

I cannot tell you how many times I have gone to someones house who got the famous YOU WON THE NIGERIAN LOTTERY call!! They fall for it, and agree to meet someone to pay them the $5000 taxes!!! They seriously believe they won. So, my first question to them is "where did you enter this lottery." Usually I get a confused, blank stare. Next, "do you think the country of Nigeria has people in our city collecting money for them" Again that look...Then, just for good measure, I call them back, tell them who I am, and that I am looking forward to meeting them..I usually get a TON of profanity, followed by them demanding to let me talk to the victim, er, winner....I then ask the person who "won" if Publishers Clearing House would swear at them

Usually that seals the deal...BUT, every now and then, that person, after I leave, hands over a cashiers check for money to a couple of thugs that show up... Then they call back asking what they can do...Nothing now...You just gambled $5000 and lost...

DW received a call asking if we were interested in selling DVC. She said no and called me to ask if I had contacted someone about it. My guess it could be cold calls from a resale agent.

Interesting, we've been receiving calls this past week from Hilton with 407 area code! I don't answer them, and they don't leave a message.

We got a call last week, that we did not answer, asking if we were interested in renting our points out to give them a call. I thought it was interesting because we never have received a call like this during our 10 years of ownership.
