I booked a roundtrip AirTran flight from Orlando to Minneapolis thru Expedia. My flight was on Friday the 3rd at 12:05 PM, and the airport closed at 12:00 PM. Yes, just a matter of five minutes and I had to cancel my vacation. My only option was to receive a credit of my purchase price ($239) to use for AirTran and book thru Expedia again.
I am now preparing to rebook my flight, and since it will be beyond the 5 day grace period I will have to pay the difference of the cost of the flights.
Here's my problem: I have to book thru Expedia and use AirTran - for my travel dates it will cost $321! I looked at AirTran and the EXACT same flight is only $196. I don't think I should have to pay Expedia extra money to take a vacation I've already paid for. If AirTran is offering the flight for $196 thru their website, I think this is reasonable thinking. I don't even care about getting a refund for the extra $43 I paid.
Has anyone gone through this before?

I never done this with airtran, but I have (kind of) with other arilines. Did Expedia give you a voucher or just said to call them with your old iterniary number? If you have a voucher, it's probably an airtran voucher and you could use that anywhere. If you have to use the itenairy number, I think you need to book through Expedia. You can always call them (or email) and ask about the cost difference.

Good Luck, I hope it works out.

Not to be negative, I have not heard good things about Expedia, especially for situations like yours. There is a customer service line you can, that would your best bet. You could also try disputing the charges on your credit card.

I booked airfare recently through Travelocity for Continental because it was alot cheaper. Then I wanted to add a couple of nights so I called Travelocity and they advised me the change fee was $130. (of course, I knew I'd be penalized for my lack of planning) On a whim, I called Continental directly and they said I could change it directly with them, so it only cost me the $100.00 change fee. (Travelocity was adding 30.00 to it, for their time, of course) Now I know you aren't being charged to change, but you might try calling Air Tran directly and see if they will just let you change directly with them. Interestingly so, the airfare for Continental was showing much higher than what I paid. But, because the same class of ticket was available that I had originally purchased, I only had to pay the change fee. Maybe Airtran is the same way. Good luck.
