I read the post yesterday on "how many of us always stay at our home resort?" and after replying to that post and saying .."oh yeah - we usually do stay at our home resort" with the exception of an overnight trip here and there staying in just a studio at the other DVC's, dh came home and I told him all about it and we discussed how we are such a couple of big fat chickens about trying something new:rolleyes:

So after our "we are such big fat chickens" discussion, we came to the conclusion that we were booked for a weeks stay at OKW and while we would be there the main pool will be closed to put in the new slide so now would actually be a good time to try out a different DVC. We have stayed time after time at OKW and have tried every size villa there and love em' all. We have only tried a studio at other DVC's - these being VB back in 97' when we first became members and BCV's just overnight last summer. So I know we love the BCV's resort itself (had stayed at Y&B lots before becoming DVC) and didn't think we'd have much chance though of getting availiblity being that it's not our home resort and it's so popular. So we figured, okay we'll ask for BCV's first and plan to stay at either BWV's or VWL in a 1bdrm since we have yet to try these resorts at all and probably won't be able to get into BCV's. Well - since it was Thurs. night and MS was open late, I called and to my shock and surprise, it was available and for the exact dates we were already booked at OKW!! So I was able to change our ressies to a 1bdrm villa at BCV's.

Now, I am very happy and excited, but also kind of nervous:bitelip: :jumping1: :worried: Will we like the 1bdrm villas at BCV's as much as at OKW??:earseek: We love the resort itself, we're nervous about loving the villa being that it will be smaller in comparison to OKW though.

Please...reassure me..........

TIA!

I can assure you of two things:

1. You'll love the location and the resort itself.

2. You'll be disappointed in the size of the unit compared to what you're use to with OKW.

Have a great trip.

Edited to add:
Didn't mean to sound down on BCV, it's a great resort having both the quiet pool and SAB, not to mention proximity to Epcot and all the other boardwalk area stuff. You'll have a great time. Just don't get your expectations too high concerning the room itself. OKW is a full sized condominium. Once you get use to it, everything else seem pretty small.

I have not stayed at OKW even though I own points there, but I have visited the rooms to check them out.

You will have a difference in the room at BCV compared to OKW. But the convenience to the parks will make up the difference.

My home is BCV and have stayed in a one bedroom unit. It is great!

You can walk, literally, around the corner to EPCOT and visit UK and France immediately. OR, you can walk around the lake to BW and find some fine eating. OR, you can walk to the boat and take it to MGM and never have a worry.

Then there is Stormalong Bay pool. Not at all like OKW's.

Let me assure you, you will have a great time at BCV and may end up looking for some extra points to buy!

about being a DVC owner...

Every resort has something wonderful about it, and you CAN try them all!!

As Caskbill said, you will find the 1bdr at BCV smaller than OKW...BUT still FABULOUS!!!

We love both resorts...don't be scared!! :D :D

we are such big fat chickens
Mmmmm, big fat chicken! Perfect for roasting and having for Sunday dinner. Maybe with a nice Côtes du Rhône, and roasted root vegetables, maybe a nice salad of baby spinach, walnuts and gorgonzola. Yum!

Hey, I sympathize; I too am a fan of the 'known and comfortable'. However, keep in mind that BCV is another wonderful DVC resort, not a Motel 6. Even if it turns out that you don't like it as much as OKW, you'll still like it a lot - and you'll have tried something new!

Congrats!

In terms of size, the OKW 1BR is bigger. But, the BCV 1BR is ceratinly amply-sized for a vacation condo, and beautifully decorated, and of course, you can't beat the location!

I don't think you'll be disappointed. Don't think "better or worse"...think "different".

We have stayed in OKW, BCV, & BWV and have found things to love about all!!!!!!

Tower of Terror is something to be chicken about -- BCV is not. ;)

Yes, the room will be different, the resort will be different -- but it will be wonderful! It let's you see WDW from a different perspective and gets you to possibly try new things as well. I love OKW but I also like a little variety once in awhile. Being able to stay in a DVC villa at a different resort is one of the luxuries of DVC. Nothing to be "chicken" about. :)

We recently had the opportunity to buy OKW points and bought BCV instead. While the rooms are smaller, they're still larger and better equipped than hotel rooms. We also loved the idea of walking around Epcot, the Boardwalk and MGM, and swimming at SAB.

Am I saying that BCV is better than OKW? Of course not. But you'll find the trade-offs bearable, and you'll enjoy BCV on its own terms.

BEWARE: I think pumpkinboy is Hannibal Lector. Lock your doors!!! :scared1:

Now this is just mean. I am so hungry I could eat the south end of a north bound polar bear.

I'm imagining this conversation and for whatever reason, it strikes me as very funny! :rotfl:

As has been pointed out, you will find the 1BR to be smaller, though certainly ample in size and amenities. The location of BCV is fabulous, as are the pools (SAB and quiet pools).

Disney Doll nailed it....don't get caught up in comparing it to OKW. Just think of it as a new experience. I think you'll be very surprised at how different your vacation can seem just by staying in a different location.

And for sure don't get caught up in fretting about the smaller rooms but the higher points. Just go, and enjoy yourselves!! :)

I second this ;)

As someone else noted, you need to look at this as a new experience, instead of comparing it to OKW. All of the resorts are so different it really is unfair to compare! ;)

The great things about BCV are its proximity and its pool area, as I'm sure you already know. I love the location....its great. While you may not like the layout of the rooms at BCV compared to OKW, I think you will like how the room is decorated ;) When we got our 2BR last year everyone in my party agreed that the rooms were so tasteful in decor.

Don't be a chicken, just go into it with an open mind.

Sorry to torment with the Sunday dinner roast plans. I was posting just before lunch, and roast chicken sounded really good to me on a rainy New England day.

And Calypso*a*gogo dear, I really was thinking about poultry :p . Did not intend to come off as a Nouveau Hannibal :teeth:

If its just two of you, the one bedroom at any DVC resort is fine. I disagree with it being "of ample size" if you bring kids. Then the pullout couch ruins everything. Once it is pulled out, there simply is no room at all to do anything. It basically takes up the entire floor space. It requires you to go to bed at the same time as the kids, it makes it difficult to get to the patio, the living room is so small that once the bed is out, you have effectively shut down the unit.

Thanks so much everyone!:D

I knew you'd all make me feel much better! I don't know why we get so worked up about it anyway, we have no problem staying at any of the resorts in just a regular room but when it comes to deciding to stay in a 1bdrm or larger, suddenly we are driving ourselves crazy about how it will compare to OKW and the extra points  I'm sure we will love the 1bdrm at BCV's - y'all are right. We need to stop comparing it to OKW and look at it as different. I'm now looking at it even as how much I'll love it compared to just a studio at BCV's or compared to the regular rooms at the BC itself. So thanks for helping me see things better.

And BTW, Pumpkinboy - you crack me up! Maybe you should eat before posting LOL. You posting before eating is like someone going to the grocery store when they're hungry:tongue:

Thanks again everyone! I'm really excited now!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Oh yeah, almost forgot -- it will be me, dh, ds 4yrs, and dd turning 1yr;)

The sofabed being open does not interfere with the use of the kitchen, dining table, dining sidebar, w&d, and there is a balcony door from the MB leading to the balcony as well as the lr balcony doors. The unit is hardly "shut down". Most people generally do not watch tv in the lr or do much in the room where children are sleeping on the sofabed no matter how "ample" the size of the lr is. Why would anyone want to stay in a lr in the dark with sleeping people when they have the MB in the next room with more than ample space, a jacuzzi tub, a tv, a phone, a balcony, etc.? I know you can not dispute the fact that BCV's MB is ample size since all the MB are approx the same size at all the DVC resorts.

You're going to love it! I can't wait to try them all! DH and I are going alone for 4 nights to Saratoga Springs in August and then in 2005, we will take our boys for their first trip home to Saratoga also. After that...I can't wait to get my hands on BWV, BCV, VWL, OKW, HH, and VB!!! That takes care of 7 years...43 to go after that!:hyper:
