“Good things come slow – especially in distance running.”

Good luck! Last year I PR'd a 5K that I had written off because the course was full of mud puddles. 😂 So you never know!
Well one can hope lol! If nothing else there is donuts, chocolate milk, po'boys, and beer after the race, so thats kinda fun lol. I also signed up for the weight category, for guys over 200 lbs. It is called the fat boy 5k after all, and looking at last years finishers I have a chance of placing top 3 in my weight division lol. Im a little heavy at around 220 these days, but I am also 6'-5". Height helps me on that one.

Big 5k race tomorrow morning! Weather is looking great with 54 at the start of the race! Sadly my training since the half last month has not gone the way I wanted to and I believe my realistic goal is around 7:30 pace or a 23:30 finish time. Maybe I will surprise myself but I dont think I have anything much better in me right now. The overly confident race predictor from Garmin says 21:21 lolololol If I finish this race with a number starting with 21 I would not be able to contain my excitement and pure shock of doing so lol. Guess we will see. I will probably go out with a 7:15 mile as the goal for the first one and adjust pace on how that mile went. After this race I have one week of running then have to take two weeks off for a minor procedure. I hate having to take that much time off, but its overdue. So, I guess base marathon preparations will begin in May through August until marathon specific plan kicks in.
Good luck !!

Fat Boy 5k Race Report:
Weather at the start of the race was a cool 54, light breeze and sunny. Race start time was 8:30 AM. Ran a mile to warm up with a few strides. The race sold out of its 1000 spots so a decent crowd. Lined up towards the front of the corral. I was aiming for about a 7:30 (23:30) mile average but for 5ks I do t look at my watch until after the first half mile. I then take that info and how I’m feeling to determine how to proceed. Well at a half mile I was showing a 6:55 pace, but felt fine and decided to keep at it. Mile was is flat and hit 6:59. Mile 2 is a. Out and back portion of the race with a few rolling “hills”. Hurts my knees to take advantage of the downhill and I’m a terrible uphill runner lol. Mile 2, 7:15 pace! Just gotta recover from the hills and maintain the pace for mile 3! Did a decent job of doing so and hit mile 3 at 7:22. The last .1 is a slight uphill with the finish line in view. I dug a little deeper and hit 7:05 pace for that last bit and ended up with an official finish time of 22:23!! I was very pleased with my outing and felt I did as well as I could have on the day.
Post race was a lazy day of smoking ribs and chicken thighs, plus making some Pastalaya. Watched my tigers play baseball, (didn’t go well) and had a few cold snacks.

Congratulations on beating your goal 👏

I had a small procedure on Good Friday that has required two weeks of no running. That two weeks is nearly up and I can not wait to get some miles in! April should be my lowest mileage month for the year. 61 total for the month. The goal is 100+ miles for the rest of the year. We are about the enter the dog days of summer, which is going to be a great time lol to get some speed work in.

During the summer there is a series of 2 mile races after work on Wednesdays. I hope my first one is under 14 and by the end of summer to be around 13. To end summer training I will run the 10 mile trail run at night. Then my training will be geared towards WDW marathon. I may get a 10 miler or a half in as part of training to help determine marathon goal.

Any who, looking forward to lacing up the shoes again soon!

April wrap up and May goals:
Finished April with 61.1 miles. Longest run of the month was a unofficial half marathon. Ran my 4th fastest 5k since owning a Garmin which goes back 10+ years. Other than that not much else to discuss.
For the month of May I have around 120 miles planned to run in a perfect world lol. After two weeks off I plan on easing into the longer miles and speedwork. Hoping to get back to double digit long runs by mid month and one day of speed work mid week starting the week of the 12th. We have end of school events, sporting events and dance recitals to schedule around but I think it will all work out with some vert early mornings. Hope to start dropping a few lbs this month. Been creeping up a little on me and its time to get back on track. No races, this month, just kinda base miles and start working on speed work.

Last week I did run 3 days. 3 miles on Thursday, and 2 miles Friday at home. Saturday we were in The Woodlands in Texas and I ran a little over 6 miles there. Very nice area to run with paved paths in the woods and stops near parks for water. It would be really nice to get to train for a marathon around there. My favorite part of being there and in Texas... HEB grocery stores! I love that place and the butter tortillas are AMAZING!!! They were hot and I opened the bag to eat one walking out the store lol. They are going to go great with our taco night tonight!
As always, thanks for reading along and for any comments you may leave! Moving forward I should be more consistent with a weekly post about training and whatever other random thoughts come up lol.

HEB grocery stores
I'm sure while you were there you pronounced it correctly.....I said it (once, and only once) as one word "heb" and was given the strangest look before being corrected that it was H E B. That said, we like their trail mix. Good fuel for some hill country hiking.
