Here's the deal...

DH and I would LOVE to surprise the kids with an impromptu trip to Disney next week. We have never surprised them. We always plan and plan for months in advance.

I will be 32 weeks pregnant this Saturday. We would leave Tuesday and return on Sunday... I would be 33 weeks then. We would be driving from Ohio.. which is a 14 hour drive. DH will do all of the driving... which he always does on our trips. I can sit in the back of the van with my feet propped up and just relax.

I'm not your typical 8 month pregnant woman. I don't get very big when I'm pregnant...in fact people are just starting to notice that I'm pregnant! I don't have to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes and honestly I feel just fine. I walk on my treadmill every day and am a pretty active person in general.

My daughters were both born on their due dates and my son was born at 38 1/2 weeks. So no history of preterm labor either.

So what would you do? I REALLY want to go....but don't want to be stupid about this either. We went on a weekend trip to Indy last weekend where I walked and walked and walked and other than being a bit tired I was fine.

Obviously I would take it pretty easy at the parks. We went this past summer when I was 14 weeks and I thoroughly enjoyed just people watching and taking it all in.

So what would you do?

Congrats to you on the new baby!

I can't really answer your question, but did want to advise you to check with your insurance company before you leave. I had a co-worker who was pregnant and wanted to have one last weekend getaway with her dh. She checked with her doctor and got the all clear, but he advised that she check with the insurance company. Apparently, some companies will have a policy that they won't cover pregnancy-related issues if a woman is so many miles away from home after a certain amount of time.
My co-worker checked and sure enough, the doctor was right.

Can you check the fine print on your insurance? That's an awfully long drive if you do happen to go into labor or have issues.

I would ask your dr and go from there. We just got back from WDW, and I was 27/28 weeks on the trip. My OB was okay with me going at that point. We live inside Washington, DC, so we (I) walk all the time, at least 2 miles each day. The trip was great, weather was mostly perfect, the crowd levels were low, everything worked out well.

My husband has a job interview in Arizona on December 7th and though I haven't ased my OB yet, I don't think he'll let me go. I'll be 31 weeks then. I really, really want to go cause if he ends up getting this job, with a baby due in January I don't know when else I'll be able to get out there and scope out the area, look for a house, etc., and we'd be moving over the summer.

However, my daughter was 15 days early, my son was 4 weeks early, and I'm on weekly progesterone injections to prevent preterm labor with this one. I had large babies (both were 21 inches and 8lbs, 4oz exactly) so we have been monitoring this one's growth and looking for cervical changes, and so far things look good, but I do know that preterm labor is definitely a concern with this one based on past history.

Anyway, so that's what I would look at, your OB's opinion and then go from there. If he/she thinks you'll be fine then go for it. But if your dr has any hesitation then I would likely not risk it.

I would check with your doctor before thinking about it. That seems awful far away just in case.

I would definetely contact your Doctor and the insurance company. Neither of mine would let me drive that amount of time at 32/33 weeks.

But if you do go, I know you said you don't go to the bathroom a lot but you should still stop every 1-2 hours and move around for you and the baby.

by 33.4 weeks with my first I was in the hospital unexpectedly for elevated blood pressure and put on bedrest for the rest of my pregnancy, and with my second pregnancy (twins) I was on bedrest by 29 weeks. so nope, I personally wouldn't do it, but only because of my history.

I love the idea of surprising the kids, but at the same time, you know your body and your pregnancies. maybe talk to your dr?

I think it is totally fine.

I will caution that you may be more exhausted than you think you might get.

I went in my 3rd trimester with family once and the first day about killed me. I hurt so much. So the next day I rented a scooter as I was incapable of keeping up with everyone.

My only concern woudl be the 14 hour car ride and you making sure that you are keeping your body mobile so as not to develop blood clots or anything.

But nothing you have said suggests to me that you shouldn't make the trip.

Double check with doc though to be sure.

Personally, I would not go. I would not want to be so far from home if something went wrong being so far into the pregnancy.

I would check with your dr. to see what they say. If they give you the green light, it's your call.

My OB has given me the all clear to go. Insurance is fine as well.

We would definitely be stopping atleast every 2 hours while driving.

Have you considered that you won't be able to go on any rides? Personally I wouldn't take the chance but that is me.

Also, what if something does happen and your baby ends up in NICU for 6 weeks in Orlando?

I'm leaving 12/10 and I'll be about 31 weeks at the time. My doc has cleared me to go. We'll be flying (about 2 1/2 hrs). Just plan to take it slowly and enjoy all the holiday decorations. As long as you don't have any complications and are fine with taking it easy, I don't see any problem with going. Good luck w/ ur decision! :goodvibes

First of all - I hate you. :rotfl:

I live close so I've been to the parks up to almost birth - so I know it can be done. Go, have fun. Take breaks if you need to. Drink lots of water. The weather is beautiful right now. :goodvibes
