Really Dollywood? a 'barnstormer' ride?

Ok I don't really have strong feelings about this but it's just bizarre. We went a couple weeks ago with my sister and family, they had flying elephants and spinning tea cups. Oh, excuse me, spinning lemonade cups. Sometime since then they've announced a ride called the barnstormer.

Now, I'm not mortally offended on Disney's behalf or something, but it just baffles me..why wouldn't they WANT to be original?

I am not sure about the others but i know tea cup rides predate Disney--Walt just added the Alice theming and made them more famous.

Is the Dollywood Barnstormer going to be anything like Goofy's coaster?

As mentioned, the types of ride are all the same.
It is the theming that is 'original'.

Most all parks have a spinning 'teacup' ride.
Most all parks have have a 'river rapids' ride.
etc....


I can all but promise you that the ride at DollyWood will not have a dog like Goofy. Dollywood is all about appalachia, which is all about old cantilevered appalachian barns... I don't see a problem here, at all.

OMG, one of my all time favorite attractions at Dollywood is the wildnerness adventure with cousin CLOVIS and Dolly herself!!!!! Taking off in that flying contraption out of that barn.... "All a part of the p l a n...." Wonder if they will expand on that theme!!!!!

Disney didn't originate the word Barnstormer. I think the name "Barnstormer" fits right in with Dollywood's theme.

Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen has spinning teacups. It was established in 1843. Maybe we should wonder why Disney isn't original.

Nope, not at all. It's not even a coaster. It's a huge, giant swinging ride.

It's less like Goofy's Coaster at WDW and more like the Skyhawk at Cedar Point.

The "Teacup", "Elephant" and "Pig" rides are in the Country Fair area of Dollywood. That area is meant to be reminiscent of old-time country fairs with rides and games.

We were just at Dollywood last week (Thursday and Friday).

I remember being surprised when Disney named their Toontown coaster, because I used to ride a carnival ride at our local fair which was called the Barnstormer. I guess Dollywood isn't the first park to borrow the name! But really, with so many different rides out there, it would be very difficult for someone to come up with something completely original.

They missed a golden opportunity by making them "spinning lemonade cups" and not "spinning bra cups"...not just because it would fit the theme better, but because the whole family could fit into one...Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, and all 2-6 grandkids.

If you go to a lot of amusement / theme parks or even just look at park maps you'll see how similar rides are. "This" ride seems a lot like "that" ride over at "whatever" park.

Exactly. Even in other countries this happens. I have been to parks older than disney which have some rides that are very similar to disney--rides that were there when the parks opened. I have also been to newer parks with these things. Disney did not do much that was unique--he just did it cleaner, safer, prettier and BETTER (theming, stories) than everyone else.

I wasn't too excited when I got the Barnstormer email.

Oh well, it seems like a reasonably priced ride for the economy. I imagine that the rope course that opened this year cost quite a bit. I was very impressed with it when we visited last month. I've never seen anything like it. We only did 2/3rds of the course and it gave us almost an hour's worth of entertainment. I always wanted to rope walk! Now I know to keep my day job!

Silver Dollar City also has the Elephant March and the Tea Cups ride. I love it as they usually have little lines! They also have the big swings and some kind of little coaster and one of those rides that goes really fast in a circle. Some kind of pirate ship thing. It is in a section that is set up to be a country fair area.
