Real Life game/fun: Calling for a DisBoard Gamers DisMeet....first week Oct 2013

Are we ending up with at least 9 for the cookout now?

I'm fine with what we currently have but we might need to add some meat to the menu.

Alison - are you hiring a car? I think we might need a grocery run for this dinner.

Alternatively, if Ed or Tiffany are checking this thread, maybe we can sort out a shopping list for them to bring? We can work out the costs when we see them.

I would like rice, string beans, carrots and chinese cabbage (wombok); soya sauce and kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) and some vegetable stock cubes for the fried rice. If we have ginger and garlic, even better.

I can pack ginger, garlic, rice (do you want Asian style, I have at least four kinds in my pantry) and vegetable stock cubes. I don't know that you're going to find the sweet soya sauce, I've never seen it in regular grocery stores, only the regular soya sauce. We are ordering from garden grocer, but Bobbi is hiring a car, and Ed offered to do grocery shopping.

I think we need a seafood protein in addition to the beef, so that those who don't eat beef have something else. I like the idea of the portabellas as side to the beef even if they work as a main for non meat eaters! :thumbsup2

I also looked at the pictures on Allears around the quiet pool. Seems like there is a table there we would want; near the cookout.

I'll have to check those out. That is the area that I was thinking about. I've heard that is where the BBQ grills are located. Do we need a tablecloth? I might have some here that I could bring and jettison.

Oh yeah, the Villas only have a 10 or 12 inch skillet for wok frying (I think you saw it when I showed my pictures of the stroganoff). Also for making the rice there are varying sizes of pots. Most are relatively small (for cooking rice). We could request a larger one and see if they had it, but most of the pots are fairly small, not sure if they would make enough rice for 9 people, or it would be tight.

A seafood protein would work. The grills look on the small side.

If you have a tablecloth that you don't mind jettisoning, it would be great to bring along.

Did you want to do a shrimp fried rice to leave the grills open for the beef and mushrooms? I've seen you make that at home and it seems accessible for folks who don't do meat. Anyone out there who doesn't eat shrimp?

If I don't have something tablecloth wise, I can pick up something easy.

Yes, we can easily add shrimp to the fried rice. Great idea.

I was thinking maybe we could get some fish fillet. We could wrap it in foil and that way, if we need to, we can cook it in the oven; rather than the grill. We could use the wombok or spinach at the bottom with some carrots and then put the fish on top. A splash of soya...and then into the oven for 15 minutes.

I'll buy the watermelon in a plastic container, and I do have a rental car for Saturday to Sunday to shop. They also have already cut up fruit salad, so I can get some of that too, if people would enjoy it.

I arrive at MCO around 1 on Wednesday and leave MCO around 5 on Sunday, so will be picked up around 2 for ME on Sunday.

Tiffany D, the cookout dinner is planned for Saturday.

Thu 3rd - DHS day. Cape May Breakfast. I'll book for Bobbi as well? And then I'm guessing we'll do Brown Derby for dinner; followed by Fantasmic!

I'd love to be included in Cape May Brkfst :wave2: Ruthie

Great! I'm happy to meet you!

OK - I thought so. ANy idea what time? Right now we just have Friday night booked (and Saturday is pretty full up) so trying to decide how the weekend will look...

franandaj are hoping for a Grand Marnier tasting event associated with F&W. It seems that in the past they have been held, roughly between 2 and 5, so the cookout would be after that if there's one of the events.

OK that's not too late but still would be nice if we can get another night added on...

TifffanyD, have you always lived in Florida? Our DS, DDiL and 3 DGC live in Lithia FL. They've lived there for nearly 2 years and moved there from Boston. They love the FL winters!

No we moved down here in 2008 (by choice). I used to live in NE Ohio... well that's where I grew up and also where I moved from. In between I spent some time in PA, Atlanta, and Missouri!

Oh, we live in SW Ohio!

We are from New Jersey and have lived in Yardley PA as well. We are trying to decide if we will move to retire in another area.
