Real Life game/fun: Calling for a DisBoard Gamers DisMeet....first week Oct 2013

For the first time there are food booths at the Flower and Garden. I'll be trying them next month!

Thanks for including the link. Those are great pictures!

If Disney are starting to do Food at the Flower and Garden, I think I might just come back in the April/May period!.

Hmmmm :scratchin We'ren't we talking about DVCMike on another thread.

I was thinking the same thing. Some of the offerings there sound really good!

Have we chosen the dates for Raglan Road or the Wishes Cruise? I know that HBD is for Oct 2. I think we can still make a reservation for that on the 29th. Technically, we are still all staying on property until the 2nd, anything for later that week we will have to make starting April 2nd.

I won't be able to make a reservation for the 29th.

We haven't chosen a date for Raglan Road or the Wishes Cruise because there's still park hours and MNSSHP to work around. I think we had earmarked the Wishes cruise for the 3rd because it was DH's birthday. Wish they would update the park hours for that week!

Alison - are you going to make bookings or should I stay up? I'm hearing that the on-line bookings are really flakey and its better to call in....

We're not making a reservation FOR the 29th, we make the one for the 2nd on the 29th. I'll call in for the HBD, I think you might have to call a different line for that one.

I've had no problems with the online booking, I would save your money and use that, it's been a breeze for me and with the exception of BoG, I have gotten every reservation that I wanted (for the last four trips that I didn't take).

okay.

When are you planning Tusker House? I hope I didn't sound harsh in that last post.

For the 29th, we're going to have groceries delivered to the room and I'll cook something really easy.

Not at all.

I haven't worked out the finer details yet. I normally like to see park hours. It would be a shame to be in Tusker House on an AK EMH; and it depends on which park is open for pm EMH the night before etc. So many options....

So, you'll take care of the Fantasmic HBD booking. I'll book for the Wishes Cruise.

Are we going to Raglan Road together? Were you planning on booking that or I'm happy to.....I suspect that I will have to call in for the Wishes cruise anyway; so I can do a whole bunch together. I just don't want us to do multiple ADRs and find that we've overlapped a couple of bookings.

Well Monday, September 3rd is definitely EMH at the AK.

Here is what the schedule in September is, and usually they hold pretty steady until holidays come up. The whole month of Sept follows this schedule.

Sun - MK - PM
Mon - DHS - PM, AK - AM
Tues - Epcot - AM
Wed - Epcot - PM
Thurs - MK - AM
Fri - AK - PM
Sat - DHS - AM

It's a pretty good bet the rest of the week will go like that. Now if they would release the party schedule.

I thought we were all going to do Raglan Road together. Did we move the cookout until Saturday evening so that Ed could attend? If the Grand Mariner tasting is on and goes until 4PM, I'm sure I could be back to get things going.

I'm thinking of bringing a TriTip along if they ever go on sale. I could make a "Summer Salad" of cucumber, red onion and tomatoes, which is Pesky Vegetarian Friendly. Fran and I were also talking about making a "Queso" with some tortilla chips. Some fruit, like watermelon (as Bobbi suggested) might be good.

If we wanted to have some seafood, Ed offered to pick it up (that way it would be fresh). Our groceries are being delivered on Sunday, so my salad veggies would still be OK by then. I haven't done a lot of planning on this one since we're waiting on the MNSSHP dates. I just looked at last year's and they were all over the place, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, so who knows until they release them.

Thanks. I was wondering if the Sep schedule would work out the same as the October schedule.

I've taken a look at when MK closes at 7 pm in September and checked up last year's MNSSHP. The problem is that the nights shift from Sept to October and if last year's schedule is anything to go by, MNSSHP moved to Tue, Thu (and Sat?) in October. That would put it on the 1st and 3rd of October during our week. I do not intend to hit a weekend MNSSHP whilst we are there.

My thoughts as they stand are:
30th Mon MK. I think Denise said this is her last day and she likes to hit MK.

1st Tue AK. I know it's an AM day; but if we go early, we might aim for a later breakfast at Tusker House??? I don't know yet. The alternative is to hit Blizzard Beach.
If MNSSHP is on, I'd like to do this. That would mean BB in the morning.

2nd Wed. Fantasmic and HBD? It may be an Epcot day today. It could also be a DHS day.

3rd Thu. Wishes Cruise in the evening. We could do Epcot in the morning.

4th Fri. This is the other day I'd earmarked for AK. Were we doing the cookout here?

5th Sat. This is the other day I'd earmarked for DHS. Maybe Raglan Road?

6th Sun. Not sure.

7th Mon. I think most of us check out on this day.

Thoughts?

I haven't gotten as far as thinking beyond fried rice or noodles. It will depend on the grocery situation.

If we move the cookout to Saturday, then we could do Raglan Road on the Friday night.

And we don't necessarily have to do the Wishes cruise. I think we have you and Fran, Bobbi and the 3 of us so far. That makes 6. I would imagine that if we posted on the Dis, we might have a few people interested to share the costs.

I know that there are two other ANZAC Dissers going at the same time. One is a party of 3; the other is a party of 5. Both sets have kids. We'll see.

It would be fun to have Ed tag along, and remember there will only be six of us, maybe seven so we don't need to have too large a spread. We need some kind protein for your DH, and we haven't talked about a dessert, but with Boardwalk Sweets nearby and Karamel Kuche, and the Pastisserie all within close proximity, I don't think we need to overthink that one too much!

I do like the idea of doing the cookout when the parks are very busy. I did not enjoy being in the parks on my last trip on Saturday (AK), and Sunday DHS was more manageable but still packed. RnRC had a 75 minute wait.

How many can it take 10-12?

I also just found out too that a gal who does great dining reviews will overlap with our trip starting on Friday of our week there. She and I have been just missing each other for quite a few years.

DH will be happy with fish or something vegetarian. I was thinking we could get some of those large mushrooms if we were doing a BBQ; grill them and lay the gill-side with pesto and feta cheese. That's really quite simple and nice.

The pontoon holds up to 10 people. So, if you want to offer spots to that other Disser, we could do a max of 4 more.

I don't think my family want to hit the parks when its super busy either. So, Sat/Sun were the other days I was looking to schedule in Blizzard Beach.

I was thinking about Portabello mushrooms, but if I ordered them in my grocery order, they would be icky by Saturday. :sad2: Those would be something that would need to be picked up that day or the day before. I was also thinking I've seen you cook shrimp fried rice, but again, those would need to be picked up that day or the day before.

I was wondering, have you given a thought to soy sauce? We got Chinese delivery last night and they always give us the little packets. Do you want me to save all our little packets throughout the year and bring them along? I keep some in my "spice kit" along with cornstarch, and all my common spices.

With what we've talked about today, my schedule is starting to look like this:

9/29 Sun - arrive, cook dinner in room, crash
9/30 Mon - possibly breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, maybe MK, Dinner at Cali Grill
10/1 Tues - still wide open
10/2 Wed - check out VWL, hit Epcot kiosks for lunch, check in BCV, HBD/Fantasmic
10/3 Thurs - Kiosks at Epcot, probably grazing most of the day, Wishes Cruise, late nite snack in room
10/4 Fri - Kiosks in Epcot until it starts to get mobbed, Raglan Road? or cookout
10/5 Sat - maybe EMH at DHS, hopefully Grand Mariner tasting 2:30-4PM, cookout or Raglan Road (but DTD on a Saturday night is a mess!)
10/6 Sun - Totally wide open
10/7 Mon - Leave at 9AM on DME (unless American switches our flights around yet again).

That makes me think that Tuesday night, I might want to plan on cooking dinner in the room, since it's in between two signature dinners. I'll possibly make something that morphs the leftovers from Sunday into a new dish.

It also makes me think that I might want to book an ADR for Sunday since Epcot will still be bustling with the weekend F&W traffic, but not as much as Friday and Saturday nights. Perhaps Le Cellier, Kouzzina or Chefs de France, since we will have just had Fish & Chips either Friday or Saturday.

As far as inviting this other DISer, she doesn't get in until the 4th. Also I don't know her that well. I thought that she was older (like us) and it turns out she is a young thing, won't even make the Fogies thread! She just has a very mature palette and writing style.

Your plans sound great.

I think we might have a couple of overlap days. I was rejigging my plans after I typed it out and it's looking like this:

Sun 29th: We will arrive late. I think I'll be lucky to be in the resort by 11 PM!!!
Mon 30th: Magic Kingdom. No food plans as yet.
Tue 1st: Either Animal Kingdom or Blizzard Beach. MNSSHP at night.
Wed 2nd: Epcot during the day. DHS/HBD/Fantasmic! at night.
Thu 3rd: MK during the day or Bizzard Beach. Wishes Cruise at night.
Fri 4th. Epcot during the day. Raglan Road for dinner; DTD at night.
Sat 5th. DHS early morning. Cook out.
Sun 6th. Still open at this stage.
Mon 7th. Check out and head to Universal.

I think with 7 days, I was looking at 2 days MK, 2 days Ep, 1 day AK, 1 day DHS and 1 day Blizzard Beach.

If I can't fit Tusker House in, then we're just as happy with the Cape May breakfast.

So here's what I see as overlap, I've put mine in pink

Sun 29th: We will arrive late. I think I'll be lucky to be in the resort by 11 PM!!! / arrive, cook dinner in room, crash, no one wants to see us after the plane ride and Fran will pass out.
Mon 30th: Magic Kingdom. No food plans as yet. / possibly breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, maybe MK, we could possibly meet up with you and Denise and ride some rides or something, Dinner at Cali Grill
Tue 1st: Either Animal Kingdom or Blizzard Beach. MNSSHP at night. / still wide open, we probably wouldn't do either of these, more likely DHS or DTD
Wed 2nd: Epcot during the day. DHS/HBD/Fantasmic! at night. / check out VWL, hit Epcot kiosks for lunch, maybe we might visit a few together and stroll around, check in BCV, HBD/Fantasmic. We'll definitely do this together! :teeth:
Thu 3rd: MK during the day or Bizzard Beach. Wishes Cruise at night. / Kiosks at Epcot, probably grazing most of the day, Wishes Cruise (again together), late nite snack in room
Fri 4th. Epcot during the day. Raglan Road for dinner; DTD at night. / Kiosks in Epcot until it starts to get mobbed, Raglan Road, sounds like we'll be at the same places this day.
Sat 5th. DHS early morning. Cook out. / maybe EMH at DHS, hopefully Grand Mariner tasting 2:30-4PM, cookout
Sun 6th. Still open at this stage. / 10/6 Sun - Totally wide open
Mon 7th. Check out and head to Universal. / 10/7 Mon - Leave at 9AM on DME (unless American switches our flights around yet again).

It sounds like we have three evenings planned together and four possible days that our parks are slightly in sync. Obviously we don't have to hang out together the whole time, but perhaps strolling around Epcot we could enjoy some of the Kiosks together. Your family might move more quickly at DHS than us, but I think MK is doable for a little bit of time with Denise.

Oh yeah, and if you want to buy any souvenirs, Fran is handy to have around (or me) because we get a 20% discount on all merchandise.
