Ok, I believe that there are bats, or birds, flying around the WL lobby. However, I have some issues with your story and the way that it is changing.
So there are real bats flying around the lodge and not just in the ceiling even down in the lobby a few inches from your face at times. Has my wife and I so terrified we won't go out to enjoy the resort. What should we do?? I feel like our vacation has been seriously destroyed in some ways. Cast members say they can't get rid of them. I want to complain we payed good money to stay here but I'm afraid nobody will do anything. Help!!
Having been to WDW more than 40 times and having stayed at numerous Disney resorts, including WL, I have to inform you that wildlife is a part of Florida.
I don't think that this should really have ruined your vacation. I can offer a few solutions to avoiding the lobby if the flying animals terrify you so.
1. Take the boat launch to MK, or to Contemporary and catch buses to the parks from there
2. Exit through the side exit (towards the Villas) and walk out to the bus stop or parking lot from there.
Also, CMs are not the appropriate people to address your complaints to, they don't have the power to offer you a solution.
1. Ask management to move you to another resort.
2. Ask what measures are being taken to address the situation.
These aren't birds they are bats and they flying low inside hallways etc. Too late to switch resorts we only have tonight and tomorrow left so it'd be a huge pain. This sucks having to run through the lobby hoping not to get a bat in your face.
Considering you were only staying 3 nights, I'm not sure I see how spending two of those three in another resort would have been a huge pain.
These are multiple bats, at least 6 and they are here every night some cm refuse to even come out. This is not ok
We haven't seen anyone corroborate this report and what do you mean by "come out" all areas of the lobby and resort are connected. Where were the CMs not coming out from?
As the OP I am realizing a few things now, mostly from this board. Thank goodness I'm not the only one who thinks having bats fly around the lobby is unacceptable.
We had reservations at artist point for my wife's bday which we cancelled because we literally were too freaked out to sit in the lobby and wait for. My wife was in the hallway by roaring fork and ran outside just in time to see the bats slam into the glass door right in front of us on the other side.
CMs explain they do call animal control to try to catch them but I saw nobody doing that and the conceirge desk says to basically expect to see them every night anyway. They are a protected species and if you know how huge the WL lobby is you would know how hard it could be to catch then. My guess is they are living in the resort now somewhere.
I get the impression this is a new phenomenon happening here and I'm not sure how other guests react. I asked a little girl in the elevator if she was afraid of the bats she said one flew within six inches of her but she didn't seem upset about it?
Anyway, tonight is our last night here. I feel like we should compensated for this but I don't know what they will do seeing as how this issue is affecting everyone who stays here and uses the lobby or restaraunts.
It is unacceptable to a point. The CMs informed you that animal control has been called. Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean that actions haven't been taken (traps set perhaps)
It is completely innappropriate to ask a little girl if she is afraid of bats. You are lucky her parents didn't yell at you. Why on earth wouldn't you have asked the parents "Have the bats in the lobby affected your stay as well?"
I'm not sure what compensation you are expecting. This has not hindered your ability to use the facilities at the resort (they didn't close the restaurants, you CHOSE not to dine there). The bats aren't affecting the pool, the marina, the rooms etc.
This is some crap. Those of you who didn't pay good money to take a Disney vacation at a deluxe resort can say what you want. Until you are paying for club level accommodations on the one vacation you get a year you don't understand how upsetting it is when you can't enjoy your resort because rabies infected rodents are swooping in front of your face and terrifying children. And what, I can't ask an 8 year old girl I'd bats frighten her? Come on, if she wasn't afraid of the fanged rodents already I dont think asking her would make any difference.
Guys... would you like it when you arrange a romantic getaway with your wife for her birthday and valentines day only to learn bats are upsetting her so you can't sit by the fire place, sit at the resorts restaurants, visit the gift shop, and are freaked out just to walk through the lobby to the door? This is a deluxe 4 star resort not a bleeping camp ground.
This is where you totally lost me.
1. You are on a community of WDW lovers. We have ALL paid good money to visit WDW over the years. Some of us have been visiting for decades, does that make us deserving of better treatment than you? No! So don't tout out the fact that you are staying at a deluxe as a reason why you should be listened to.
2. You stated here that you were "paying for club level accomodations for a week" that "children were terrified". These are false statements as you later told us you didn't pay for club level and that you were only there 3 nights. Also, you asked 1 child if she was scared and she said no. You haven't mentioned terrified children in any of your other accounts with the bats.
A couple things,
I am not an elitist. I didn't pay for club level, must have been a free upgrade
I am only staying 3 nights here, we split our stay because we can't afford 6 nights at a deluxe, even during value season
I don't expect the CMs or anyone else to have a solution to this that can get rid of the bats right away, I understand the complications involved
I wanted to inform people planning their vacation that this could certainly happen to them, and if low flying bats make you uncomfortable then maybe think about another resort.
This doesn't only affect the lobby, but the restaurants and hallways.
Of course there are other things to do in Disney other than hang out at your resort. However, we planned to do this a few evenings. Especially with temps in the low 50s / Hightower 40s at night
Even if this doesn't bother me, my wife is very uncomfortable and I don't blame her
If asking a child how they felt about the much noticed and talked about spectacle that everyone was dealing with in the lobby is a big deal, then I suppose talking to anyone about anything ever is a problem.
It was the fact that you asked a
child that was innappropriate. It would have been easier to ask her parents.
