Real bats flying inside wilderness lodge lobby

If animal control was called in to capture the bats, they probably would not release them in the wild. They would have to be destroyed and tested for rabies, especially if they were caught in an area where there are people.

We were at the Lodge in December and there was a bat swooping all over the lobby. First I thought it was a bird, but my DH said it was a bat and that was later confirmed by one of the Lodge "Rangers". One of the Rangers ended up trapping it in a box.

Since I didn't see any others I just thought it was a once in blue moon type of event so even though I am scared of them I didn't think much of it.

We stay at the Lodge every year in the summer and have never seen a bat before.

Could this be a seasonal thing?

Thanks for posting this, I am glad to see they are able to take care of them. I agree that it is likely that there are bats at WL. Most people don't realize that there are animals (bats, birds, etc) in many hotel lobbies. I've seen things swooping at the Poly, ALK, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary. Take a look around the Land Pavilion and Crystal Palace sometime.

I honestly believe that Disney and WL are taking steps to take care of this issue. Nowhere is "safe" from creatures. If you think it is then your are living in more of a dream world then even Disney can create.

Yep there wildlife in Florida. I have no doubt disney is working on a solution even if you don't see it.

I also have no doubt Disney would have moved the OP if the had asked for it. To wait for the end of a trip and ask for compensation I would go with for what? If it was trouble enough to want compensation then you should have asked to be moved as soon as it was an issue.

Get moved = happy vactioner

Stay, be annoyed, possible compensation still does not = happy vacationer if they where truly bothered.

Life is about choices OP chose not to move and let it spoil the vacation.

Aggressive birds are a guest-created problem. People feed them, even though I assume that most people realize the potential results of their behavior. I'm sure parents don't want to spoil "little Billy's" enjoyment, but it's the responsible thing to do. When my wife and I see people feeding wildlife, we usually have a "louder than normal" conversation about how unfortunate it is that people don't know the negative consequences of their behavior. We avoid confrontation, so we don't say anything directly to the guests. Disney might also want to post more information around the parks and resorts asking for guest compliance as well. I doubt that cast members get involved, as perhaps they should, when they witness feeding. Sam

It drives me crazy sitting at Casey's and being accosted by aggressive ducks and seeing the table next to me (directly next to the "Please do not feed the wildlife sign) laughing and feeding the ducks french fries and cracker jacks, and letting their kids chase the ducks.

They need to call "Billy the Exterminator"! He'll have the bats outta there in no time!:goodvibes

Anyway, tonight is our last night here. I feel like we should compensated for this but I don't know what they will do seeing as how this issue is affecting everyone who stays here and uses the lobby or restaraunts.
I am lost why you would feel the need to be compensated:confused3 You could have been relocated. You chose to stay where you were and finished out your vacation. When the problem arose you had options and you chose for whatever reasons to continue with your stay there.I am sure Disney would have "compensated" you by moving you if you had problems. Since you did not,ask to be moved,it is now up to you to make the best of the situation.

This is some crap. Those of you who didn't pay good money to take a Disney vacation at a deluxe resort can say what you want. Until you are paying for club level accommodations on the one vacation you get a year you don't understand how upsetting it is when you can't enjoy your resort because rabies infected rodents are swooping in front of your face and terrifying children. And what, I can't ask an 8 year old girl I'd bats frighten her? Come on, if she wasn't afraid of the fanged rodents already I dont think asking her would make any difference.

Guys... would you like it when you arrange a romantic getaway with your wife for her birthday and valentines day only to learn bats are upsetting her so you can't sit by the fire place, sit at the resorts restaurants, visit the gift shop, and are freaked out just to walk through the lobby to the door? This is a deluxe 4 star resort not a bleeping camp ground.
I am a DVC owner and do stay in all the deluxe resorts and pay top dollar.I still feel that if you were scared, uncomfortable, or just unhappy,You should have asked to be relocated in the beginning.I also don't understand what the value of the resort has to do with it. Are you saying this issue would be acceptable over at a value resort? The dollar of a person staying at a value resort is worth just as much as a dollar of a person staying at a deluxe resort. So lets leave that part out of it. Things like this can happen anywhere Deluxe or not
