Ready to "Thaw Out"

Unfortunately it appears Disney is going to run their own product into the ground. Yes it was a good movie. No it was no where near as good as Tangled or Princess and the Frog, regardless of it's popularity. Disney seem content to throw it into everyone faces and put the Frozen group everywhere they can possible fit them. The worst thing is they are doing it in cheap and not great ways. Theming the Christmas Parade to Frozen, kicking Cinderella out of her own Castle Lighting Ceremony, let them take over stores, the cruise line (Elsa makes it snow in the lobby now) They have taken over the show Once Upon A Time. The show used to be so good and now, they've kicked a great cast to the kerb to keep cashing in. We've even stopped watching that.

It's so over the top, it's made our family absolutely hate Frozen and we loved it at first. We literally saw it at the cinema 10 times, the CD was in the car. Now the DVD never gets played, the CD is long gone. Disney has killed their own product. And sadly all these changes for a movie that in another year will have become just another Princess Movie.

Yeah, I'm waiting for OUAT to be "thawed" and hopefully get back to all the other stories that were waiting to be told. And at first I was excited about the inclusion until it became clear that the show was now Once Upon a Time in Arendelle.

Well, My trip is in a couple of weeks and yes, I too am over "Frozen". When it first came out I liked it and thought it was really well done (and I still think that it is) but it's just everywhere and I completely understand why Disney is forcing it upon everyone - it's bringing in money and the majority wants more "Frozen".

I don't care if the stores are stocked with tons of "Frozen" merchandise, and that every time I enter my local Disney store(s) I hear "Let it go" - seriously - do they have it on repeat???? but when I do get annoyed is when they start replacing the classics like Cinderella with a "Frozen" show at WDW. It would have been nice if they incorporated her into the show somehow - I mean it is Cinderella castle - right? Obviously the movie is going to have a presence in the parks - be included in the castle projection show show but to take over the Castle lighting is a bit much. Oh, and don't even get me started on placing a fictional land into the World Showcase - a Meet and Greet and a princess meal in Norway - fine - but to lose the country completely - not my favorite move. There are so many places where Arrendelle (SP?) could have been placed - and could have been made much bigger.

But I'm not Disney's target market so I'm sure they don't care that I haven't watched "Frozen" in 6 months and have ignored it ever since in terms of merchandise - I'm simply over it. I am not over, however, the classics. I've come to realize that no matter how good a Disney movie is, I will never get attached to it the way I am to the classics - it's just not going to happen. Possibly it's my age? the nostalgia?

I've mentioned in previous discussions about the quick takeover of "Frozen" that it took YEARS to get a classic like "The Little Mermaid", or "Beauty and the Beast" some real presence in the parks but with "Frozen" it's instant and we all know Disney doesn't typically work that fast.

Oh well...I'm still going to Disney World and will roll with it and "Let it go" - the next big thing will come out and "Frozen" could possibly wear off - unless it stands the test of time - we shall see.

...right up to the great homage to Stockholm Syndrome Beauty and the Beast. ...

So true, so true...

Cinderella scared me so badly as a child that my mom had to leave the theater with me (not the initial release, but a re-release in the early 70s) and that was before theaters were kind and refunded money if you left early into the movie.

Ever since I realized that the super-fan base didn't actually make the Harry Potter books *bad* (I was working CS at amazon.com during the release of the first few books, augh augh augh), I've decided to let movies/books/etc speak for themselves and not let the other stuff bug me. Disney can release all the stuff they want to, and it's not going to change my view of the movie. Which I like, and it's not a typical princess movie, and sooo many BOYS know all the words to the songs as well, which I think is an awesome bit of magic....

I think they did their best to grab the Frozen hype while it was hot rather than wait a year or two to develop one particular ride for it. So they fit it where they could, while the demand is there, and eventually it will die down. It won't be front and center forever.

But the new Frozen ride in Norway won't be ready for quite some time. In fact, by the time it opens, many of the "target" marketplace may be on to the next thing. I think most people who object to Frozen in the World Showcase object to a "real" country being turned into a fake one. Yes, some might think trolls aren't real, but they are a large part of Norway's heritage. Just not the ones in the Frozen movie.

Ummmm, this Minnie can be found at Sir Mickey's:

Face it they have broken ground on Avatarland and really does anyone think that is a movie worth its own land?
For the massive success that Frozen is don't expect it to go anywhere soon.

I think this may work in cycles, my moms favorite is Cinderella and I love it from watching it with her as a kid, I love Beauty & the Beast, Little Mermaid and Aladdin all from when I was a kid, did not like much of the newer stuff and was even quite anti these new Princesses (who do they think they are!) and then bam my kids are old enough to watch them and they love Rapunzel and Tiana and of course Frozen and I have fallen in love with them too

For all you Frozen haters- why? After a year and seeing this movie about ten times, I still love it.

I loved the sister connection. I loved that neither rode off on a white horse with a prince at the end. I loved that they made Olaf, well, kind of ugly. (they could have cuted him up much more, but it's his personality that makes him cute)
I loved the music and I walked out of the theater the first time and said- finally, a Disney movie where they kill off BOTH parents, not just the Mother. lol

I think all the Frozen stuff is hysterical. I went out yesterday and there is no escaping it. Hundreds of Olafs dancing all over Walmart. Not an Elsa to be found. Every department store I went into, Frozen was there. Disney will push this until the day Olaf is in a sale bin for .99 instead of $24.99. I can't fault them for this. And if they were smart, they'd shelve Avatarland and instead, make it Arandelle.

I babysit and every kid I watch, boy and girl would love nothing more than to go to Disney just to see the Frozen lighting of the castle. I've never heard them talk about Disney World before this.
So it is huge, bigger than anything in the recent past. The haters are either going to have to accept it, or check out and check back in about five years. lol

That could be debated. The "Norway" area in the World Showcase is being changed into an "Arendelle" pavillion. Maelstrom has already been shut down to be gutted and converted to a Frozen ride. Likewise I have heard that the Stave Church exhibit will also be gutted to make a Anna & Elsa M&G although that may just be rumor. And you know once this kind of change is made, it never really goes back. Frozen may fade in time, but Norway is basically gone for good.

I agree that it's a horrible thing to do to the pavillion....but in some ways I find it hard to "side" with Norway......the government of Norway abandoned their pavillion years ago, and Disney took over and kept it semi-authentic for quite a while. They've paid for it, maintained it, even updated it since Norway decided they'd gotten all the tourism they're going to from the exhibit. And most people don't even realize it isn't run by Norway anymore.

All I hope for from this sad experience, is that the other countries are paying attention and don't decide they're done with their pavillion too....or else we'll find more of this sadness creeping through World Showcase.

My 'biggest' fear is that so much of DHS is being closed for "something big" coming....I hope it is NOT Frozenland. Of course I imagine that those who aren't the biggest fans of Star Wars won't be happy if my family gets their wish and those areas become Star Wars land. You can't make everyone happy!

I love the Frozen songs...but found the movie seriously lacking. My prediction is that the songs will outlast the movie by the time it is old enough to be considered a classic. We'll have these disjointed songs and characters and no one will really remember the movie much.

That isn't really a valid argument though because the only country sponsoring its pavilion is Morocco.

I don't think frozen will be going anywhere, and I am ok with that, it deserves a presence in the parks, despite my opinions on the movie. I just don't like the way they have gone about adding it to the parks.

Some history on the world showcase pavilions:
http://www.yesterland.com/worldshowcase.html

"At the time of the opening of the Norway pavilion in 1988, an article in the Orlando Sentinel (“Norway Pavilion Opens—Without Viking Ride” by Vicki Vaughan, June 2, 1988) provided a rare glimpse into the sponsorship details. Here is an excerpt:

Norwegian Showcase USA A/S, also called NorShow, is a consortium of 11 companies established to pay for the pavilion and represent Norwegian interests. The Norwegian government also helped pay for the pavilion.

NorShow president Gunnar Jerman said his company contributed $33 million for the pavilion. The figure includes a $2 million contribution from the Norwegian government and an $8 million government loan to NorShow.

Disney would not reveal the total cost of the pavilion. The company incurred costs because Disney Imagineering designed and built the pavilion.

Jerman said NorShow will share any profit from sales of food and souvenirs. The first $3.2 million in profit will go to NorShow, he said, and the next $400,000 to Disney. After that, NorShow will keep 60 percent of all profit and Disney, 40 percent.

As you just read, the Norwegian government kicked in some money, but it was primarily a business consortium."

I don't see why some here if they are no longer interested in Frozen, they just don't go to the Frozen attractions.

I am also one not happy about the Maelstrom, but it is what it is.

As long as there is the MASSIVE interest in Frozen,( and deservedly so) it will be all around the parks.

AKK

So because you hadn't heard of Maelstrom, you don't understand why others might be upset? :confused3

I think it was an underused attraction as of late. So the previous poster had a valid point. Then once it was being "removed", everyone who loved it reed red. But too little too late.

Not much disboard mention of it either, until it was going away.

I'm Norwegian by heritage. I do not like seeing my country being defined as Frozen the way they seem to be doing in the Norway pavilion.

I have no issue with Frozen itself. I actually love the movie. I just don't think Arendelle should take over Norway.

Obviously that ship has sailed, and it isn't changing, so I'll deal with it.

They better keep thr gjetost cheesecake at the bakery, though. That was awesome :)

rs. lol

Why? Personal preference.

The plot was rushed and had holes in it big enough to drive a monorail through. Olaf was shoe-horned in along with the completely unnecessary trolls. The music was lousy (That song Anna sang to whatever the bad guy's name was during the party was like nails on a chalkboard along with Idina Menzel's voice. I just cannot tolerate her voice.). The ending was bizarre and predictable....but my favorite was how both Elsa and the ice-cutter guy both gave Anna grief about falling in love with a guy she had just met, and then at the end Anna thought the ice dude was gonna be the one to save her with an act of true love because she had fallen for him...the guy she just met!

Don't bother arguing with me because you won't change my view of the film. I'm glad TONS of people disagree with me and are getting what they want from Disney. No sweat off my back. Happy for ya! The movie just wasn't my cup o' tea.

I liked The Money Pit. That is my answer to that.

Unfortunately, Norway stopped giving money to fund the pavilion at WDW years ago. So there's no way Disney was going to suddenly intensify the authenticity of the pavilion- they needed something to bring money to it, and Frozen has brought some serious BANK. Like I said some previous posts- people who usually glanced over the pavilion before were suddenly flocking to it once A&E started meeting. So unless Norway starts giving money to support the pavilion again, I unfortunately think it's going to be "Frozen" in it's current state for a while.

Frozen is such a massive force that it seems to take over anything associated with it. I'm sorry you feel like Frozen is defining Norway- if it was set in Italy, and Disney took over the Italian pavilion, I'd feel upset, too. No matter where Frozen was set, it was bound to take over Epcot in some respect. At this point, we can only hope that people will learn to appreciate the beauty of Norway more after spending time at the Norwegian pavilion. I'm sure Disney will line up the queues to the A&E M&G and Frozen Ride with all sorts of beautiful facts and trivia about Norway that ties to Frozen somehow.

Hi Ariel,

I am also Norwegian by heritage, our family is still in a small village named Freda, and as I said I am not happy about the loss of the Maelstrom.

If they mess around with the bakery at all.....I will be calling Odin for help!
I have not had those wonderful items since my grandparents were alive!
