Ready to "Thaw Out"

Having two little girls who love the movie, I think Disney is catering to the masses here and doing what they know their fans want. And of course they are going to make some money doing it, because it is Disney. I think the idea to have Elsa light the castle is a wonderful idea, especially for those little girls who weren't able to meet her...maybe seeing her light the castle is something she can hold on to. It isn't forever, although I think having Cinderella there as well would make it a little less like a "take over."
I am a HUGE Disney princess movie fan, Beauty and the Beast being an all time favorite... but come on...most of Disney's princess movies have holes and things that were unexplained. It's an animated film.
I do think it is strange to have a Frozen ride in Norway...but not much anyone can do about it now. I think a lovely "Let it Go" could be offered to both sides here...not just Disney. :thumbsup2

I believe the keywords are "for your family". I, on the other hand, hadn't even heard of it before it was being replaced and everyone was suddenly outraged.

So because you hadn't heard of Maelstrom, you don't understand why others might be upset? :confused3

Newsies.....I am not putting words in your mouth. You said to me that you had not even heard of Maelstrom until it was being replaced and everyone was suddenly outraged. I simply asked my question. To which you responded that you didn't say that.

It's fine. Maybe it's a misunderstanding on both our parts. I just didn't appreciate being called out as rude by OasterP.

Honestly, I had been glancing at TRs for at least two years before officially joining the dis and nobody mentioned Maelstrom for the most part.

I hadn't been to Disney but have been reading reports for quite a while and pretty much never did I read about Maelstrom being a favorite, or crying over not getting a fast pass (if it was even a fp ride at the time), or waiting two hours in line.

I think there are lots of classic rides at DW that are not talked about a lot on the boards. Carousel of Progress, Dumbo, Small World are just a few rides that come to mind. Nobody talks about strategies for getting FP's or how to ride these rides multiple times. I'm not saying that Maelstrom was a classic for everyone, but I think it might be for some. Just because a ride is not as popular as others, doesn't necessarily mean it's not a classic.

I said I hadn't heard of Maelstrom... I never said I didn't understand why someone would be upset, just that I hadn't heard a lot of talk about the ride. It was a misunderstanding. That's fair enough. To be honest, I didn't think you were rude and I respect your opinion on the ride. Glad we're seeing eye-to-eye now. I'm not here to fight. Hope your day is pixie-dusted :flower:

I'm personally not saying that nobody likes the ride or it's not a favorite of anyone. I was just saying that I thought the poster had a valid point based on trip reports that I've read. And when you read the "what's your favorite ride" or things like that, it just never came up. I have read a lot about Carousel of Progress is under appreciated (and I agree), and all the Touring Plans for kids that I've read talk about how long the lines for Dumbo can be, and I believe they even added capacity or something? I could absolutely be wrong there, because we didn't ride it. I will agree that I consider Small World a classic, but at our trip, though we rode it quite a few times (it's across from Peter Pan, so that's probably why) - we always just about walked on. So that's definitely not one that I personally found the need for a fast pass, but do consider a classic. It IS widely discussed as a ride that is "essential" Disney.

I'm completely not trying to argue whether or not people liked Maelstrom - I'm certain that a lot of people did! If it's been around for a long time, I'm sure there were people who it was part of their tradition and they will definitely miss it.

And I apologize if I worded my reply incorrectly. I didn't think your response was particularly rude - I didn't mean to insinuate that. I just didn't think that the other reply was rude either - I thought it made sense.
