What is this I hear about a cassoulet??

I am not fully sure I even know what a cassoulet is.
It's food, that I know. And NOT for vegans.

Cassoulet is a rich, slow-cooked bean stew or casserole originating in the southwest of France, containing meat (typically pork sausages, mutton, or goose), and white haricot beans.

Numerous regional variations exist, the most notable being from Castelnaudary, the self-proclaimed "Capital of Cassoulet," where the cassoulet contains only beans, pork, and the local sausages; from Carcassonne; and from Toulouse, where, if it is not cooked with spicy Toulouse sausage and confit of goose, it is not considered a traditional cassoulet Toulousain.

Cassoulet is most commonly consumed in France as a commercial product sold in cans in supermarkets and grocery stores. These cassoulets vary in price and quality. The cheapest ones contain only beans, tomato sauce, some cheap sausages, and some pieces of pork — duck and goose are expensive and thus are absent from such preparations. More expensive versions are likely to be cooked with goose fat and to include Toulouse sausages, lamb, goose, or duck confit.

Ragù is an Italian term for a meat based sauce. Etymologically the word derives from the French ragoût, a noun derived from ragoûter (to revive the taste).

Typical Italian ragù include the ragù bolognese (sometimes known as Bolognese sauce) and the Neapolitan ragù. A ragù is usually made by adding meat to a soffritto (a partially-fried mixture of chopped onions, celery, carrots, seasonings, etc.) and then simmering it for a long time with tomato sauce. (A soffritto is the progenitor of the French concept of the mirepoix.)

Outside Italy, ragù are very popular in Sweden, Greece, Japan, and the United States.

Grammy,

Maybe you should come out from behind that shed. Do you also need an intervention? I already have a call in to Mark.

Mel - We have this poem as an illistrated board book...

How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail,
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every golden scale!

How cheerfully he seems to grin
How neatly spreads his claws,
And welcomes little fishes in,
With gently smiling jaws!

It is another one of my favorite kids books.

I love the Ya Ya books, too! I can't remember the author, though, can you? Have you read Ya Ya's in Bloom yet?

Rebecca Wells, Tink. I read Ya Ya's in Bloom. It was just okay. I have it in my bookcase if you want me to send it to you. :teeth:

Last edited by jw50 : Today at 02:37 PM. Reason: I am still wondering why AshClan picked that button out of the 27 toolbars, when I didn't even notice that one

Weird, huh? I can't say why I saw it. I just skimmed the toolbars and for some reason that one popped out at me. Sorry for causing a maelstrom. Really, Sher, I'm sure it was not intentional on jw's part.

Oh Grammy, I am so sorry about your bat problem. Can't even make a batman joke. It's just so sad. Okay, I just have one thing to say: "Holy Infestation, Batman!" Hope this doesn't turn into too much of a nightmare.

And Rhonda, poor Wesley. That happened with my oldest when we went on our 1st trip to WDW when he was 5. He got strep, then my youngest got it, then my husband got it, then when he was done with his medicine, he got it again! Just a day or two before we left. It was a pain feeding him medicine all week, but we got through it. I hope (1) he feels better soon, and (2) that neither of you catch it.

That's it for now. I have to go take a nap. I feel like crap. (I'm a poet!) I may check in later. Skipped my son's b-ball game because I didn't feel well, so it would NOT do for him and Jay to come home and find me DISing!! :rolleyes1

Holy banannamen Batman. (Sorry Grammy...I guess that wasn't funny considering your bat troubles).

I was gone for a few hours and y'all posted a bazillion pages!!!!

Just like old times. Finally.

I spent the day at the gym with DD #2 (6 years old).

She can do round-off-back-handsprings by herself. And an assortment of things that I find amazing for such a young kid. But she needs to work on her stretching and spilts. The splits have to be 180 degrees to be ready for competition, and that is HER goal. So a lot of stretching is in my future. I think.

I just got caught up on the bazillion pages and all I can say is...Maelstrom my friends.

Paslea, didn't ya ever see Ace Ventura? Or as DS calls it "Ace Adventure"

Ace: Mmm, this fruit paste is delicious and the pottery is lovely.

Ouda: It's made from guano.

Ace: Guano! Why's that sounding so familiar?
[Ace starts licking the remains of the fruit paste from the bottom of the bowl]

Fulton Greenwall: Bat droppings!
[Ace drops the bowl spitting the remains of the paste and wiping off his tongue]

Fulton Greenwall: Guano is their main raw material, they're using it to made a lot of things in the village.

Ace: Yuuuuummie!

LaLa...I'm ashamed to say that ABBY was obsessed with Jim Carrey when she was 3-4. She watched The Mask and Ace Ventura "Pet Detective" everyday. Not exactly kid material. I think I've blocked most of it out. She is a reincarnation of him. Even though he's not dead or anything!! :rotfl2:

NM..
Thanks for visiting my Pooh page. ;)

PolyMelJenMom...Sorry your kiddos going thru such a hard time. Could be post nasal drip, related to allergies. Have you tried some type of claritin?
Hope she's feeling better soon and you guys can get some sleep.
