I tell you what.

I can't leave you people alone for 5 days without major drama taking place, can I? I mean, I take off to have a nice, relaxing mini vacation at the beach and come back to find out everything has changed in a New York minute here. My buddy Z is gone? Mel? Master G? And Hoop There It Is has no more rhymes left in him? Say it ain't so, people.

LOU! Where's Lou? We need something funny really quick.

I think I have some catching up to do before I finish unpacking.

Anyway, Horsey, Sher, NM, GA, and all you other peeps that posted on that thread, I just want to say that I love ya. I really do. Yall rock. Thanks for all the sweet comments yall left. And thanks again for keeping me above the you know what thread.

((((((((((((((((((((((KISS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

We had a really good time. The kids and I stayed on the beach and in the pool almost the entire time we were there. I've got a tan going on the likes of which I haven't seen since high school. And yes, Frickles, I did wear my sunscreen. I plan on posting a mini trip report in the next few days. And, yes, there will be some pictures, but none of Mama in a white size 4 string bikini. ;)

And because I feel the need to say it....

MAELSTROM...

I don't want you to be sad. It's Father's Day!!! Enjoy your wonderful family. And don't be sad. We've got each other and that's a lot! And greater minds prevail. Always. Well, except for maybe Al Gore. Although, technically, he kinda did prevail. But that's a topic for another day.

Sher is right (not only about Al Gore), Perseverence is the word of the week.

Master G, I love ya. Sorry I wished you a Happy Father's Day when I knew you were not a dad. But you ARE a great uncle, so I guess I'm not really sorry. Don't worry. Be happy. And please, still visit us.

We did have the requisite bbq here at our house. Found out we were having it at about 10:00 this morning, and my whole family was here by 11:30! It was mildly crazed, but fun. Except when I almost cut my right thumb off when making a salad. I am bandaged and throbbing, but I'm hoping it'll heal quickly. Guess no manicures for me for awhile......

Oh, one more thing, I have a business retreat out of town that I must attend from Mon-Weds. Overnight. With no laptop. So I will be incommunicado from Monday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon. I will, however, be around tonight.

That's it for now! Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful day (well, it's beautiful here, anyway).

Happy Father's Day to the Maelstrom Dads!

I am out for the day, but first I have a quick funny for ya

My daughter woke up this morning and said, "Happy Father's Day, Mom."
and then she gave my a kiss.

Em's Mom -

This is from a long-time Maelstrom/Reading, seeing, and hearing lurker. Just had to come out of lurk mode and say that your daughter said exactly what I always used to say to my mom on Father's Day. She was the one who was always there for me and my siblings. I always gave her both a Mother's Day and a Father's Day card. It brought back some bittersweet memories and makes me very grateful that my daughter has a great dad.

Hope you and your daughter had a special day today and that she one day finds a wonderful man to be a great dad to her child(ren).

Let's have some FUN...

Happy F's Day! To all you Maelstrom Dad's

And Shout, shout, let it all out to everyone!!

Just a drive by to say hi and catch up.

Lala - Welcome Back. A few of us got {{{{{{{SLAPPED}}}}}}}}}around while you were gone, but we're happy that the Queen of Slappy Happy is Back!

Shelby - you frighten me, girlfriend. Weird Babies. What next puppies?? Or Kittens?? (hee-hee)

Em's Mom:

Welcome Minnie_Moo  Please come out lurkdom and post more.

Ash - sorry about your thumb. Hopefully no nail fell into the salad....ummm extra-added crunchiness!!

MG and hoop - listen to the wise words of Sher

And also, one of my favourite (Canadian spelling alert for you non's) singers of the 80's, Howard Jones:

Were not scared to lose it all
Security throw through the wall
Future dreams we have to realize
A thousand sceptic hands
Wont keep us from the things we plan
Unless were clinging to the things we prize

And do you feel scared - I do
But I wont stop and falter
And if we threw it all away
Things can only get better
Wow wow wow oh, wow wow wow oh oh oh oh

Have a great Sunday Night....all!

Hey! Hope you're having a great Father's Day. I had a thought that hit me in Sunday School this morning, that I wanted to share, that I hope, perhaps, won't offend. I've been mulling and stewing these last couple of days, as most of you know. And I popped in here for a minute while taking a break from all the Father's Day activities.

Here's my thought. There's a story in Acts right after the Day of Pentecost. In it, Peter and John are arrested for preaching in the temple about Jesus. All the Sanhedrin (made up of the Pharisees, Saducees - basically the leaders of the Jewish temple) gathered and tried to decide what to do abouth them.

Well, one guy, Gameliel (I think that's how you spell his name - would have to look it up and my Bible is on the other end of the house and I'm being lazy) stood up and said, something like this. He said, we have put down uprisings in the past. In those days, the Romans just tolerated the Jewish folks. They weren't officially recognized as a religion, because according to the Romans, Caesar was the head of all things. It was feared by many of the Jewish leaders that anything that brought about too much attention, i.e., riots, etc., might also bring the Roman government down on them as well, and they would lose their ability to carry out their religious life as they had been accustomed.

So Gameliel stood up and reminded them of the movements they had stoppd in the past - zealouts who wanted to fight against Rome. But he said that if this Christian movement was of God, then there was nothing they could do to stop it anyway. No matter how hard they tried. Then, knowing that he had a point, they had Peter and John flogged and then sent them on their way, telling them to not preach about Jesus anymore.

Funny thing was, the very next day they were back in the temple preaching.

Here's how this relates in my mind. Many times we have heard people say that this group of rag tag folk from so many different areas of the country, oh wait, Canada too (eh?), have come together for a reason. I know we all have different political, and religious beliefs and thats fine. But I do believe that God has a hand in all things good. And for me and Rhonda, this group has been good. Its amazing to me that I can think about so many people whom I have never even really met, and pray for them and worry about them, and think of them when I use words like guano in Scrabble.

But in that I can see God's hand. At whatever level, and for whatever reason, we have been given the gift of friendship - of Maelstrom. We do worry with each other. We care for each other. We're friends. Things happen sometimes. We are not always in control of our own lives and the decisions that other people make always effect us, whether we want them to or not.

But as I see it, if this is a gift from God, there's nothing anyone can really do to keep us apart. Sure, our presence may not be deemed desirable in particular places. But there are enough of us with email addresses that we will stay in contact, regardless of what might happen. We're making a pilgrimage to Norway in October, for crying out loud. In my mind, this is a God thing. All of us needed what has happened here or we wouldn't have found the deep friendships that has come so quickly.

So chins up Vikings. Even mine. Our friendships are bigger than any silly old lock down. God is bigger than any person in any position of power on this earth - even President Bush.

In my mind this is of God. And in the words of Gameliel, if it is, there's nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Maelstrom!

Blessings!
MarkyMark

.....is a fastpass!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm just a newbie, and MarkyMark (you, both, rock and roll!!!) said it all, so I'll not get too...whatever. I'll just say the following:

THIS is the place.
YOU are the people. The friendships that have been formed here and the fun that is had (daily) is real. Quite. And magical. Very, very.
And there's NOTHING that can change that.

My new friends,
Vikings and Ninjas submit not to the rank and file of the *they*.
Or to the *them* for that matter.

There's too much love, fun and truth here for that.

Shutting up now...

but first,
a song by my beloved Robbie Williams:

KNOW NO FEAR...

I adore you all.
Really, really.

xx, Sid

MarkyMark - I found your TR on the other board and can't wait to read the real ending!

I told my DM about the "sighting" by the way that you clued me in on and you can bet we will be looking and reporting when we return.

BTW - If anyone has a way of contacting Mel from what I have read her trip report would be allowed to be reported freely on that board should she want to. I miss her and hope she considers it.

Happy Father's Day everyone. I gave my dad and extra hug today :grouphug:

Mark, I just want to give you a big ole bear hug...consider yourself hugged....{{{{{{{{{{hug}}}}}}}}}}} Thanks for the wonderful message. You are absolutely right, we were all brought together for a reason that is bigger than ANY of us. Disney may have brought us here, but it's people like US that keeps us here! (Is that proper grammar?)

LY~MI!

Mark, we should all come to your church on Sundays.

Ever thought of being a televangelist? :)
So much more convenient than driving to Georgia!

MarkyMark, :grouphug: Thought of you in church this AM. Our asst pastor, also Markymark, preached.

Your message here made me soooo happy. Then Shelby and Lou made me laugh.

All is well.

I can see why you would have thought. Of me. But, the truth of the matter is.... I would much rather be gifted with shoes than to have to work for them!!! :teeth:
