I'm amazed people would rather have a standby line than the VQ. I just don't get it

Few and far between, at least on here.

My guess is anybody who prefers stand by just doesn’t fully understand the sheer amount of people who are willing to wait for it, or the majors issues the crop up with downtime and all that fun stuff. I’m thinking they’re picturing a long but manageable line, or the ability to hop in late at night.

If you want to be at the very front then closer to 2 hours is better but I think one hour, knowing you are no bags and a solo person that can kinda snake through the crowd a bit should be fine
Yeah had a feeling. But I think being there for 5 a.m. is just too much for my folks and such. Thanks for your suggestions!

Ya, I haven't seen it much on here, but I'm on a lot of other forums and see it on FB a lot too.

Like you said, I don't think people realize how high the demand is for the ride

I think if you’ve made the effort to get there before opening and you end up getting shut out, you might feel differently.

I see both sides of it.

Stand by doesn’t fix that.

Stand by would require you to be at the front of the pack and stay there until you enter the queue (and bless those CMs attempting to control that mob), or pack and picnic and spend at least 6 hours in line, all while being willing to lurk as close to the entrance as CMs will allow if the line is cleared due to break downs. Forget that jump in line at the end of night tactic, I would be shocked if they didn’t cut the line much earlier, ROTR needs it’s beauty sleep.

While the BG method makes people feel like they’re spending all day waiting around for this ride, with stand by you literally would be, still maybe not being successful. As annoyed as I am with some of the decisions made, I feel very strongly the VQ is the only way to properly handle this.

I didn’t say standby was better.

I just understand why others might think that, especially if they were in the park at opening and they got shut out of BG’s for the day.

I personally would not attempt to go at rope drop if it was stand by only.

Agreed. When the ride experiences extended downtime, many second guess the distribution method. But it’s really a ride uptime issue. We’ve seen big throughput on very busy holiday days with BGs getting distributed for hours that got to ride. Other than app issues (like those that occurred on 1/2), uptime can make any distribution method look good or bad.

Yeah - we had a couple of days recently where some weird issues occurred: The day with all the technology issues, and the day with all the downtime. And I feel like myself personally and overall as a thread we really dwelled on those because it stinks and we feel bad for those affected. It really feels like things have gone pretty well most days though!

We went on 1/3. Bus from Pop century left at 5:00, there by 5:15am with crowd already forming. Security up and running. Then we tapped in around 6:10 and headed over to entrance by galaxy edge. At 7:00 I got BG 57 and we walked to smugglers run and did that and off of it by 7:50. Got called for our group at 11:15. Went over and were online when things went south. Deep inside when then told us of delays. They brought us water, chips, popcorns and bananas and escorted people to the bathrooms. Then as a bonus, Chewie came out to take pics with people on the line. Ride resumed and we got through. We got done there around 1:20.

If the park opens at 7am, try to be in line to tap by 6:30. I don’t know why you’d need to be there any earlier. You don’t need to be first in line. Once in the park, a solo person has a major RD advantage.

Again, 12/23 had us in the rain well behind the bag check at 6:40ish. The line for Uber/lyft drop offs was so long that we just got out well before the turnaround area. (Couldn’t even see it) and yet that was a day that got through 192 BGs. I was watching this thread all day and it didn’t seem like the ride went down much, if at all. Uptime/downtime makes a huge difference.

Our days are probably 1/3 structured, 2/3 non-structured, as a round estimate. By that I mean we'll do our FPs (often in the AM), maybe have a lunch ADR, then the balance of the day is left open for pool time, more park time, or wherever the day goes. We usually rope drop. I'm a sucker for fireworks, so MK or Epcot are frequent evening destinations.

My kids are just a year younger than yours. I hope to get to your level of zen next year!

Can you apply the price of the ticket that they gave you to your next AP renewal?
Are these the same compensation tickets they gave out the first week of RoR, transferable and with an expiration date of 2030?
10 years gives you more opportunity to find a use. Give it as a B-day gift or to a good friend or family member to join you one day or use one year you let AP lapse, etc.

From what I read the tickets given out yesterday were one day DHS tickets and had a 2022 expire date.

Yeah even with a few bad days, overall the process is kicking butt. Considering all possible scenarios, Disney's choices continue to be the best solution. For every alternative posted I can think of 3 other things that will become worse as a result.
BGs running out in 3-10 minutes would be a major problem if it becomes the new normal. Now everybody is arriving before official open while hours will shorten. RoR needs more than 11hr/day. Maybe keep calling BGs right to park close and let RoR operate 1-2 hrs past close to cycle out those last BGs? HS will suffer if the BG distribution window stabilizes at 5 minutes. Yikes!
