Come on, folks! It's all about the nostalgia! It's not supposed to be state-of-the-art any more. It's supposed to be a fond look back at a man who was the tops in his industry when the film was made, and who died too young. (No matter how you feel about his not-so-private life, he truly was an inspired performer!)
Exactly!
I remember lining up for hours to see this at Epcot in 1986. It was truly state of the art then, and I see this as a look back at history. How it was 25 years ago.
We saw it again this summer. I brought my kids who thought it was cheesy, terrible and all that. But, they did appreciate that it was state of the art when Mom was younger and a look at how it was "back then". I even found the pre-movie (making of) interesting, and a look back at the big hair and spandex of the day! My DD15 was mortified at what they wore in the 80's to dance.
