Reaction to Captain EO?

Come on, folks! It's all about the nostalgia! It's not supposed to be state-of-the-art any more. It's supposed to be a fond look back at a man who was the tops in his industry when the film was made, and who died too young. (No matter how you feel about his not-so-private life, he truly was an inspired performer!)

Exactly!

I remember lining up for hours to see this at Epcot in 1986. It was truly state of the art then, and I see this as a look back at history. How it was 25 years ago.

We saw it again this summer. I brought my kids who thought it was cheesy, terrible and all that. But, they did appreciate that it was state of the art when Mom was younger and a look at how it was "back then". I even found the pre-movie (making of) interesting, and a look back at the big hair and spandex of the day! My DD15 was mortified at what they wore in the 80's to dance.

I didn't really remember much of the movie, but I did remember that Angelica Huston was in it! And there she was :thumbsup2

I saw it back in the day and thought the visuals and plot were terrible. Even though it was "state of the art" for the time, that doesn't change the fact that the 3D effects were very blurry and caused double vision. The plot drags on and the main song is just OK. When it was over, I was of the opinion that any (then) current MJ video on MTV was better.

Flash forward to last week. Went back to see if time had changed my opinion, or if they had digitally enhanced the video to make it tolerable. Nope. On all fronts. As we exited, I said to my siblings: "The only good thing that you can say about EO is that it will give an entire new generation of people an opportunity to see MJ at the peak of his talent, having had only one or two plastic surgeries and limited skin peels. The guy up on that screen is nothing like the unrecognizable freak that the world came to know in his later years."

Oh yeah. One more thing. The dancers with their "Flashdance" costumes are super hot. Especially in the pre-show film.

i'll add my 2 cents :)

i saw it last month...twice! and i loved every second of it!!! that being said, i should tell you that i'm a HUGE MJ fan so i'm one of those people who would probably like it even if it was just MJ singing and dancing alone on a stage (hello motown 25th anniversary performance! hehe)

it's fun. like pp's have said it's more about the nostalgia than the effects. it's funny and cheesy and cute.

like all things, some will love it and some will hate it. it's worth a try in my opinion!! let us know if you decide on seeing it!

I've never seen it. How doe this compare to other WDW 3-D movies? How different is the theatre after the changeover? Should I take time away from seeing some of the live performances at WS?

TIA.

Honestly, it is very tacky. I remembered it being better when it was at the Life Pavillion. I miss the shrinking of the audience!
