I hope that someone can help me. I was reading a Trip Report and the person mentioned that while she was staying at AKL she had gone on something called the Sunrise Safari. You cannot email her and she has not responed to posts to her trip report thread.
It departed from AKL and they went in prior to opening. I am looking for ALL the details about this tour. Do you have to stay at AKL? How much does it cost? Is it offered year-round? And any other info that anyone has.

Much Thanks.

Lisa

Hi there - The Sunrise Safari is offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays to guests staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge Concierge level only. The safari costs $50 per adult and $25 per child, similar in price to the Hoop de Doo. You meet in the Kilamanjaro Club (Concierge lounge) at about 6:30 am. They will load you onto a bus, drive you to the back of Animal Kingdom for a quick view of the barns where they house the animals. Then you get onto the regular safari ride, where you take an extended tour - about 45 minutes long - of the savannas. The vehicle does stop for pictures and there are usually tons of animals out as they are being fed and brought out at this time. After the special safari ride is done, you go to a special room in Tusker House for a full breakfast buffet. They also issue each person a Fastpass for the safari so they can compare with the regular ride.

I upgraded our ressies for December to concierge level - it was only a little bit more per night with the passholder rate as there are five of us, so we were already booked in a deluxe savannah room. We will be going on the Safari Dec. 17th. I will report back my opinions at that time. It is definitely pricey, but the reports have been positive, so I hope it is worth it - DH LOVES the regular safari - his favorite attraction in all of DW - so I think it will be a great Christmas present for him.

Can't add much, except to say that it was worth it. So was the concierge.

I never got my fastpass, I don't know who was handing them out, but I never got one.:(

We did the Sunrise Safari in April and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We took our three children and they also loved it. The time you get to spend with the animals is priceless and the time of day you go is the BEST time to see everything. One of the best things was that you got to ask questions and the tour guide was very aware of everyone's comfort level, picture angles, etc. I have to say that when you finish the safari and are walking calmly to breakfast and you see the masses of people running up to the safari line right after the gates open you really feel like a VIP. And the breakfast was awesome! Lots of interesting dishes and the chef explains the cuisine. I would do it again!

I've done the Sunrise Safari three times and it is well worth the price. The animals are just coming out for the day and you'll have more time with them than on the regular safari. Be prepared for the best breakfast buffet on property. Here is a link to myPICTURES.
