??? RE: Southwest and price-adjustments?

I read somewhere before on the boards about how SWA will refund the difference if you catch a lower rate for your flight after you've already reserved it at a higher rate??? Exactly how does this work? I asked my AAA travel agent yesterday and she looked at me like I had 10 heads... she said that airline tix through any airline cannot be adjusted-what you pay is what you get-no refunds on any....

So... please tell me exactly how it works???? Hoping to fly SWA out of Providence in August and I don't know whether to jump on the flight prices when they first get posted in order to secure an early AM flight or if I should risk it and see what comes out later on for prices?????

Yeah - I wouldn't expect a travel agent to do all that work to get you a credit - after all, they'd probably get LESS of a commission if your fares were lower!
Anyway, when you book at Southwest, if the fares go down, you simply "change your flight" to the same one with the new fare. You will then get a credit linked to your reservation number. When you want to use the credit, you will partially "pay" for the new tickets using the old reservation number credit. It's VERY simple once you try it - more complicated to explain it than actually do it.

In my experience, when I rebooked flights for a lower fare I was left with credit. The only thing that I could have gotten refunded was I believe the security fee or tax which ended up not being enough to bother with a refund.

I don't mind being left with credit! I have almost $400 in credits which will go a long way toward our next trip!
Sure is better than letting them keep it!

I totally agree! When I rebooked an upcoming flight I was left with about $20 credit, $11 of which I could have actually refunded to me (it was for tax or the security fee). I didn't see the point when I'm sure I'll be flying again soon!

After you go through the process of rebooking and getting the credit you can call customer service. If you have not changed anything about any of your flights you may be able to get the money refunded on your credit card. They do not guarantee it but I have done this 4 times and received cash back. The most recent time was in September so it is possible they have changed their policy but I have never had a problem.
