My hubby and I booked the couples signature Lomilomi massage during our upcoming trip (1st time!) to Aulani. I'm super excited to experience this! Does anyone have any suggestions/tips or reviews of the Laniwai Spa?

The spa is one of the best I've experienced. When we were there in 2023 they asked that we only come and use the spa facilities in the 1 hour before our treatment. If that's still the case, plan on being there and checked in at exactly the time. The common areas are large and relaxing and by the time we were checked in, only had 45 minutes left and it felt too short.

I am a connoisseur of resort massages (usually Swedish, sometimes hot stone) and I took the “complimentary upgrade” to lomi lomi and regretted it because it felt like filler that didn’t add anything and took away from massage time. I don’t recall the specifics, unfortunately.

I agree with the prior posters who said that the spa area is lovely and to maximize your time. Bring a swimsuit if you want to dip in the pools outside.

We went the day before we checked out. It was fantastic. If you book the last appointment of the day, they let you go 90-120 minutes before your appointment to enjoy the amenities. The pools, the ice bath, sauna and steam room.

OK, I'm back to add more details.

We arrived at Aulani on November 6th. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready (we got there around 1 pm and were still waiting for our friend to arrive, her plane didn't land until 3 hours after ours did). So, we wandered around, ate, and then figured out where the spa was (in the W tower, we were in the E tower).

We asked for available appointments for the three off us, around the same time, for November 7 and November 8 and the only availability was 5:30 p.m. (2 appointments) and 6 p.m. (1 appointment) on November 8. We had the Signature Lomi Lomi and I barely remember the sticks, only the hot stones. The receptionist let us know that since we had the last appointments of the day, we could arrive 90 minutes ahead of our appointment time and since the 3rd person was at 6 p.m., she could arrive with us, so 120 minutes prior to her appointment time.

After walking us all around and pointing out where things were, they left us to do our thing.

We had time to enjoy the 5 mini-pools (varying temperatures), the ice bath a few times (me, I couldn't get in all the way), went to the steam room for a few minutes ( we can last maybe 5-10 minutes) and then went to the sauna (same thing, we can last maybe 5-10 minutes). Rinsed in the mini-shower outside to rinse off the chlorine off our swimsuits, before going into the steam room, then sauna, then went to the women's showers, where we had enough time to wash our hair and ourselves (so no need for a shower later that night), dry our hair and then we got the 15-minute "warning" that our appointment was in 15 minutes (well, those whose appointments were at 5:30 p.m.) so we headed to the relaxation room with massage chairs til we were called.

*note: they do tell you during the tour that wherever we are, they will find out to let us know that we are 15 minutes from our appointment time*

Bumping this thread with a question. Most resort spas let you stay after your treatment with a day pass. Is this true for Aulani as well?

No, sadly. They want you to enjoy the spa for an hour beforehand and then head out afterwards. I don’t know how quickly they force you out but I do know they don’t sell day passes…or at least they didn’t as of 6 months ago.

Not a day pass, but you are free to relax/enjoy the spa amenities afterwards. For my massage, I showed up about 30 min early and chilled in the waiting room, then enjoyed the rest of the spa amenities after the massage. Nobody rushed me and I was free to lounge in the various pool places (hot tub, warm wading 'pool', outdoor showers, sauna).

Also, the adult pool for the resort is very close to the spa, so it's a nice place to retire to and enjoy a drink from the pool bar.

That’s what I was wondering. I’d prefer to hang out after my massage and not have to hurry in the 30 minutes beforehand.

Make sure to show up about 30min earlier. They will do a walkthrough of the facility, and they have a neat intro-spiel where you pick out a rock and place into a zen pool. After you're shown around, you change into your robe and wait in the waiting area (lounge chairs, tea and cookies, fresh fruit available). After the massage, you change into your swimsuit and lounge in the outdoor area and can also access the gendered sauna or steam room. The Shower facilities are pretty nice as well - they provide pretty much everything you need to get ready.
