We have an 8:05 CP ADR for a day when park hours were changed to 8am open. Not wanting to waste that precious early morning time eating, I'm thinking of canceling the ADR and just hitting the welcome show for RD instead. We had planned on starting that day on the Frontierland side of the park though. How's the RD crowd over on that side? On one hand it seems a "waste" of RD to head over there, but then again, going the opposite direction of everyone else could work out well. Thoughts?

The crowd is generally low in Frontierland at rope drop, and if you're going when Big Thunder is closed, it will really be low. Most of our trips in the past we hit Adventureland at rope drop, made it to Frontierland a little after 10, and still found the crowds to be manageable.

Yes BTMR is closed, its first week of October. I know my kids are going to go nuts for splash mountain so that's how that strategy came to be.
Thanks for the insight!

We were there mid May. We went to Adventureland, Frontierland, and then to Liberty Square at RD and it was empty. We loved it! We got so much done in the first hour.
