RCL or DCL for 3 adults

Hello! I am doing the early stages in planning a land and sea vacation. I have done Royal Caribbean in the past (Allure of the Seas both times) but Disney Cruise Line has always interested me. I'm just afraid it wouldn't have enough for adults to do. Has anyone else done an adult only trip on Disney Cruise line?

My husband and I have done two adults only trips and to be honest, we never really saw any kids other than if we went into the family areas. We tended to hang back at the adults only areas (there is a quiet pool area), seating areas, then also the bars/clubs in the adults area. We never felt like there wasn't enough for us to do as we are spa-goers. Including also the adults only area on Castaway Cay. There are adult activities too such as trivia, games, etc. It was awesome.

Also, if you do the later dining seating, usually it's less families as well.

I do adult only most of the time. If I'm cruising in the Caribbean, it's all about the beach and sun for me, so as long as the weather is nice, I'm happy.

DCL has everything any other cruise line I've ever been on has. It's likely going to be Disney themed or PG rated. But you're going to find at some time on your cruise the opportunity to attend or participate in karaoke, trivia, movies, bingo, a spa, exercise classes, alcohol tastings, evening entertainment(either Disney themed, or a comedian, a juggler, a ventriloquist, or a musician or musical group), ship tours, and adult only pool areas and coffee shop.

I believe at least half of my cruises have been adults only and my next one in July will be as well. I really enjoy DCL for many reasons and yes, there are children around but can be avoided by staying in the adults only area. I think it depends on what you want to do on your cruise whether it would be the best for you. DH and I like sunning, relaxing, reading and going to the gym. In July we'll be in Europe and we'll be touring, eating and exploring. DCL is good for all of the above (for us).

The only thing to remember is that on DCL the main bed is a queen and doesn't separate into 2 twins, like RCL does. So unless you're traveling with someone you want to share with, remember to book a room with a bunk or murphy as well as the couch bed.

I love DCL and have been to WDW many times with my wife and no kids. That being said, I can't see us sailing DCL over RCL unless our daughter was with us. It isn't that there is not alot for adults on DCl but RCL just has alot more and from a cost perspective if I am not using Oceaneers Club/Lab, etc Id rather not be paying the higher costs for it.

I'm a solo adult cruiser and I have completed 10+ cruises mostly with Disney. Last year I sailed on RCL (Anthem of the Seas) and comparing activities on the ship between DCL and RCL, well RCL has far more activities for adults/families (at least on that ship). But in my opinion RCL fell short when it came to service and entertainment which is the main reason I continually sail with DCL more than any other cruise line. I think if you and your party are Disney fans you cannot go wrong with at least trying DCL once which was the reason I tried RCL last year.

Wife and I took our first Disney Cruise September of 2015, we just completed our sixth last week. No kids. You can have as "Disney" of a cruise as you want or as "Adult" as you want. The kids have never really impacted us on any of our cruises. We just don't go to the family pool. It's never been an issue for us. The quality of the Disney ships and their service just keeps us coming back time and time again. I can't imagine cruising with anyone but Disney (personal opinion).

Even if the ships weren't worth it, Castaway Cay is gorgeous. Serenity Bay is like heaven to the wife and I.

Agree - we've taken 11 DCL cruises. Mostly all adult. Only "too many kids" cruise issue we had was back in the "kids sail free" days. One of our Mexican Riviera cruises was simply overrun with kids. The second show every night was a madhouse with kids up and down the aisles, bouncing on the seats, and shouting across the theater (yes, even during the show).

Another solo adult here. Usually cruise Disney but have cruised RCCL (Radiance class only - I would go smaller but not larger...the Behemoths of the Seas don't interest me) and fathom (tiny - and a totally different cruise experience, plus it shuts down for good at the end of May, so it doesn't enter into consideration any longer). Oh, and HAL which...never again.
I will likely continue to cruise Disney until I cannot afford it. I love the entertainment (have not loved all the entertainment on RCCL though it was marginally better on the Brilliance than the Radiance). I love the service. I love the atmosphere. I love the no casino - and ergo no indoor smoking location to stink up other parts of the ship's interior rendering it unusable. I am not one who has to be constantly entertained, so I don't need climbing walls and flow riders and mega-slides and the like. Yep - if it wasn't for (IMHO fake Disney junk) Star Wars and Marvel taking over two of the ships almost all winter Disney would be pretty much my perfect cruise line.

Dh and I have cruised as adult only cruisers the last three trips on Disney. I would never classify any of those trips as "boring." Between all the demo classes, Palo brunch, reading by the pool, hanging out at Satellite Falls (on the Dream class ships), movies, the spa, the Aqua Duck/Dunk, people watching, etc., we had to remind ourselves to slow down and relax! The other thing Disney has instituted are adult only departures for excursions. So while in port you can sight see with other adults as well. Disney is definitely not a "kids only" cruise. We have sailed numerous other lines and like Dug720 was saying, no casino = no smoke, which was always a huge turn off to me.
