RCI to DVC...Does anything open up at two year mark?

We're looking at trading up to a two bedroom condo...any DVC resort at WDW.

Right now, we're looking at first week in November 2013. We'd actually trade in two years...2012 and 2013. Each year is worth 15 points, so we'll have 30 points.

From reading other posts, I'm fairly confident we'll get something. But I'm not sure how long I'm willing to wait. Seems as though we could trade into Orange Lake (we've stayed there several times) at the two year mark. But we want to see if we could stay on-site. Don't know how long we're willing to wait though to see what comes through.

I'm fairly confident we'll get something at that time. But when will we know?

I am sure someone can answer better then me but I have been looking for Feb 2012 through RCI trade and all I have found is availability until Nov 9th, 2011 nothing beyond that. I have only seen 2 or 3, 2 bedroom units that are gone within 48 hours. They were for Sept 2011 stay. Good luck.

If you are willing to take any check in day (F-S) and any DVC resort you should be fine with 30 RCI trading points. However, if you're depositing a week only worth 15, you'll have to pay the fee to combine them. Personally I'd ride the request until about 60 days out if you have to for the Orlando area, you can always get something at a decent to very nice resort. I would not take such risks for more difficult areas. Just put your request in now.

Historically, DVC appears to follow the regular booking rules when selecting inventory for deposit. I am not aware of any confirmed deposit that appeared more than 11 months to the day in advance of check in, ever.

However, during most of 2011, DVC has been depositing much closer in; the last several deposits have almost all been entirely within the seven month mark. The most recent deposit, this past Wednesday 4/13, saw the latest deposited week at precisely seven months out, 11/13. There were weeks deposited on that same day with check-ins as early as the first full week of August---just less than four months prior to use. There was one studio in the spacebank from either Vero or HHI for the week after Thanksgiving, but it had been deposited much earlier.

I agree with Dean regarding strategy. Orlando is an easy place to play "catch and release" within the 45-day window; I've done that a couple times now, and gotten some perfectly adequate places. Just be sure to place an ongoing search *before* 30 days prior to check in, and you'll have something that shows up practically every morning that you can take or throw back in hopes of something better.

I agree with Brian, I see a fair amount at 11 months and even more at 7 months.

Last year we booked BWV closer to 11 months. This year things seem to be appearing closer to and under 7 months. I would put in your request now so you are at the top of the list when something pops up; especially since you want a two bedroom. We accepted a one bedroom even though we own a two bedroom as it was just DH and me and that was plenty of room for us. We used our VWL points for our two bedroom at Christmas so I have not tried to get a two bedroom, but I have seen some two bedrooms pop up doing some misc searches. Obviously the more flexible you are with dates and resorts the greater your chance of success.

Thanks for all the responses. :)

I didn't think you could even put in a request until two years out. Or in my case, November 1 or 2 2011 since we are not even going down until Novembe 2013.

As I said, I'm positive we can get Orange Lake again. But I think we want to stay onsite this year.

I have 2 RCI trades. One was deposited at exactly at 11 months, the other was around 7 months. It makes sense that DVC can't deposit the owners week more than 11 months out in their home resort and 7 months at other resorts because they can't book it themselves that far in advance. I don't know how the "desposit" works on the DVC side. And most are deposited in RCI points which doesn't pull more than 10 months in advance.

You're correct, 2 years out. Didn't think about it being that far out. IF you go for off site, shoot higher than the HI system including Marriott's Cypress Harbour, The Fountains and Hilton properties.

One update to this. This morning (or perhaps sometime yesterday) there were some early December weeks deposted at VBR and HHI. Those are outside the seven-month window---barely, but evidence that they *are* still going beyond seven months in 2011.

Our BCV reservation for September 3, 2011 was deposited Oct 3, 2010 (the reservation date comes up when I pull up the reservation on WDW's site).

Yes, in '09 and '10, >7 month deposits were common. In '11, they are much less so.
