I think I figured something out, but I'd like to hear from someone more experienced to help me out here. It just seems too easy.
I posted earlier about my expiring points problem (borrowed, booked, then unable to travel, stuck with 124 expiring 8/09).
I was playing around with RCI dates, and I stumbled upon their cancellation policy. If I cancel outside of 45 days, points get banked to RCI and must be used by December of the following year (Dec. 2010).
If hypothetically I cancel, I forfeit the $95 fee and I need to pay another $95 to rebook. So, on the surface, it looks to me like I can book an RCI trip by 8/09, hypothetically cancel if that trip really doesn't work out, then i have until 12/10 to use the RCI points, all for $95.
Am I close or does it sound like an "I Love Lucy" scheme?
