RCI memberships and booking at DVC, how's THAT work?

I KNOW! I have been asking him to just get me the info I need and I'll check into it! He told me a couple of people have used it over the years, but I bet it has been no more than 5-6 times in all those years! He'll bank the weeks and then just end up losing them! I told him I would pay his dues for him, just let me know!

AKV 1 BR for 11/22 through 11/29 using RCI points. I was looking for that week because I have off Fri and Monday along with the holiday. BTW, I saw it a few times with II as well.

RCI are a pain to search with for things like DVC because you can't do an ongoing search and you never know when the units/points are going to be deposited and available. I'm actually seeing more things in weeks than points right now. If I were thinking about this I'd likely buy both. If you're a points member you get the weeks account free with RCI. You can "rent" and RCI points membership for 3 years to try it out. Bluegreen will give you great RCI weeks access for a reasonable price, free RCI weeks access, the ability to deposit with RCI or II (in most cases), a lot of internal options and a very good price with decent fees. You can deposit first then put in requests up to 2 years out. If you get more points, you get an even better deal, esp at Gold or Platinum level.

Can you trade your non Wyndham weeks through your Wyndham account? Can you get access to RCI points directly through Wyndham? To be honest, I don't know enough about Wyndham to know how the exchanging works with them other than they pick the weeks deposited and not the member.

As for buying RCI points, I just did so last year. Given DVC has switched, it has been a great option for us. Just a few minutes ago I used RCI points to schedule 2 nights in June for HH for the nights prior to our Grande Ocean week. This was time I was going to have to get a hotel room otherwise either in HH or Savannah. I just went through the eval process last year about whether to buy RCI points and if so where to buy. My conclusion was that I wanted a ratio of points to dues of 150 to $1 or better and a price no more than $4-5K. I varied the price I was willing to pay with the actual points to dues ratio and the # of points included. I adjusted somewhat for different closing costs and extra points available. I also put some emphasis on the underlying resort and specific week in case something happened that the points option didn't work out. I ended up getting exactly what I wanted for under $3K included closing, transfer, maint fees and the actual cost. There were only two options I found that gave a better points to maint fee ratio and both were a lot more than what I paid. With points for deposit and my inherent points, I ended up with around 550K RCI points for my 2009 UY. The cost of those points for the year was $26 time 7 for the points for deposit weeks, $300 Maint fee on the RCI points resort and approx $1300 maint fees on the weeks deposited. However, 180K of these points came by way of free Bluegreen weeks that I get for being a Platinum member so the only costs there were the $26 per week deposit fee.

There has been a ton of availability both in RCI points and RCI weeks. I've booked 2 weeks this fall and considered taking the next year off so I could live at DVC by such exchanges.

LOL, I wish I could take off but my partner doesn't. Seriously though, that is essentially my retirement plan to travel about 25% of the time using timeshares with a few weeks at a given resort or area where possible.

Curious ... I found the same thing but know it was still under LBV as of last night. I wonder why that change would have been made. The only resort listed under Lake Buena Vista now is Bonnet Creek. There are 6 DVC resorts now listed under FL - AKV, BCV, BWV, OKW, SSR and VB with Studios, 1BRs and 2BRs with dates including Christmas week. I don't see anything in 2010 yet though.

They're not listed in any subgroup it appears including Orlando subgroup, LBV or Kissimmee, only the larger "Orlando Area". This happened about 3 days ago. My guess is Wyndham complained since it pitted them directly and specifically against DVC, else no reason to make any changes.
