Would think since we're 14 days from the end of the yr, there would be more info on RCI????? Would think we would be receiving some info from DVC on specifics of booking with RCI come Jan1st.............

Anyone heard anything additional?

I'm really glad for the folks who had trips booked for 09 through II that they will be honored!

Thanks!:goodvibes

I doubt we'll get much until after the 1st and it will likely take months for all the details to leak out. This will be a work in progress with some relearning on both DVC's and the members part. Expect misinformation along the way as well.

I heard from both my guide and member services that there will be info up on the dvcmember site Monday Dec 22nd. Don't know how much info but that's what I've been told.

Was on the phone with MS this morning and heard the RCI stuff.

Will get access to 16 "high-end" fractionals(from RCI Registry collection). Will probably throw up at the # of points required. :scared:

I've stayed in one of those units, and WOW  . I'm assuming people probably deposit the "mud weeks" and use or rent out the good ones.

I would drop if I saw a summer week at the one I stayed at because that's Prime Red season and the place rented for approx. $3000/wk and that was 4 yrs ago.

Only 12? I'm guessing that must be developer inventory, else why not include more of them? They are all very nice.

16 resorts. You're from MI, have you been to LeBear up in Glen Arbor?

Actually cooked so I could try out the Viking stove. :rotfl2:

They just defaluted on their mortgage last month. We were actually considering buying back in 2004. They would throw in a free stay NYE week(besides your regular rotation) for that year.

One of my buddies has friends that bought in when it opened. Guess I need to give her a call.

One clue should have been no problem renting a unit in prime summer time.

I haven't been there yet, but we got a mailer for fractionals there in our newspaper just yesterday.

(I think it was LeBear---might have been something else there, now that I think about it.)

Even 16 isn't a big number considering how many resorts are affilaited:

When we were there talking to some other guests/owners, the staff had that "we're better than the guests" attitude. I know the conceirge that was originally there was replaced. She was a bit:snooty: , like I need to make dinner reservations for you peasants.

Maybe it was the Homestead, just outside of Glen Arbor. I actually liked that a lot better. Older units, but the staff was really great.

Quite a few of the offerings are either RCI weeks or RCI points resorts as well.

Dean, any idea on what the RCI weeks will be? I see DVC has three categories of points - Low, Mid and High. But on the RCI pages, I don't see anything noting what category. My favorite RCI resorts are all listed as Red for the entire year. Do you think that will denote what category of points? I'd hate to have to use 270 points for the two bedroom at the resort I want for the week.

Mind you this only a guess and extrapolated from the II experience. If it's red time and peak, it'll generally be HIGH season. There were a few weeks of LOW for HI even though they were red all year round. If it's red time and not peak, it'll be MID season. Certain high demand resorts as were Atlantis and Westin St. John will be HIGH year around. Example would be Caribbean which is generally HIGH for weeks 51-16 (Xmas to Easter) and MID the rest or Cancun which is the same except also HIGH for summer. OR HI which was generally HIGH for Xmas through late summer and LOW for a few fall weeks and early December with the rest being MID season. Remember that the resorts themselves actually make this determination. I'm assuming that with RCI, like II, you won't really know until you actually made the trade so assume HIGH season for anything red time and be happy if it's actually less points when you match.

Just bought into BLT and was not really interested in trading out to start with.
But after reading these posts, it just seems bloody confusing.
I'll stick with Disney.

So far (and we've been DVC since 2000 at BW), we agree. Using this to trade out wasn't even an option when buying. Matter of fact, we bought in because we couldn't trade in with our II home resort. Sold that and put it toward DVC. If we ever do trade out it will be only rarely. We aren't worldy travellers, barely go off the east coast, and with DVC HH and Vero (haven't yet been to Vero), I don't see us looking to trade anytime too soon. We aren't opposed to renting out some points and using that $$ toward accommodations elsewhere either, but in this economy a future trip outside of DVC isn't even on the planning boards yet.

On another note, I just received in today's mail a flyer regarding RCI from DVC. It's just a broad announcement stating that beginning Jan 1 they are offering "exciting new enhancements to the membership" through Group RCI. But, it also says wile continuing to choose from more than 500 destinations nd 25 countries the world passport collection will offer broader range of resort experiences and length of stay options, including more nightly exchanges, and more all inclusive food/bev resorts, besides high end fractional properties.

Where exactly has it been posted (I haven't been to the dvc member site yet) that they will discontinue using II as well? Just wondering....

TIA

DVC has told several that it is indeed a switch and not an addition. IF it were additive, the totals would be up in the 800-900 or more range, not 500. They also used words like "transition to RCI".

Just found out today from DVC rep that anyone who put points into II this past year with the explanation that they would have 3 years to use the exchange will shortly be getting a very rude awakening message from DVC that the exchange must be used BY THE END OF 2009 or it will be lost since DVC is cutting off II in 2009, II is cutting off the DVC exchange as well. Since RCI has fewer desirable exchanges, despite what Disney says, if you plan on going to Italy or several other previously available destinations, you better hurry as RCI has no properties comparable to many of the locations and you may wind up in litigation with Disney or going to Idaho (no offense) to use your exchange.

No Offense taken, but you actually might find some nice places in Idaho!!! :) DH and I had a lovely time last summer in McCall and Cascade. There are some amazing places here, lots of beauty, and some very nice people too. No, it isn't Italy, but we  it here!

Coeur D'Alene is very pretty, too.

One of II's (and RCI's) rules is the membership must be paid through the date of the exchange. I would think that DVC would compensate those that truly lose in this situation as one would have to reserve AND travel by the end of 2009 unless something changes. It wasn't 3 years but 3 years from the date of the unit deposited so the longest period available was 2 years, 10 & 3/4 weeks, almost 3 years. Assuming they cut off deposits a few months ago we're talking about a full year of lost time. Most people didn't do deposit first unless they were going to lose points so I doubt there are many affected, are you one? Of course given you can't rent an exchange, it's even more limited than it might be otherwise. If I were in this circumstance I would push DVC for a more suitable alternative such as to help one get the exchange you wanted, give you a replacement week in RCI, or possibly give you developers points or similar to use with DVC. I also wonder if DVC could work it so they could transfer to a private II account but I assume this would only work for one who was an II member otherwise.
