Rats chasing mice in Magic Kingdom

We have seen all kinds of wildlife in the parks... The best was the turkey under the monorail tracks. We have seen rabbits in both MK and Epcot

Me and DH got married at Shades of Green, across from the Poly. The morning we got married, there were a whole bunch of turkey outside our balcony!! It was so funny, because my DH had just finished turkey bow hunting season and didn't get anything....it was like they were taunting him!!

We've also seen an alligator in the pond between the SoG and Poly!

It is Florida, there is a lot of wildlife. ;)

At CSR, we had a squirrel jump on my daughter to get on the table outside to steal her breakfast. Poor baby was scared to death.

Where there are palm trees, there will be rats. They like to nest in the area where all the leaves come out of the top. Too keep the rats away, people should clear all of the dead palm fronds. Most people don't bother. That is why I don't have any palms in my yard. I have seen them scurry up and down my neighbor's palms. That being said, I had more of a problem with mice when I lived in the Midwest. I've not had any mice problems since moving to Florida.

Everyone freaks out about rats and mice what about the snakes and you cannot forget all the dangerous deer and bears :happytv: disneyworld is 40 square mile of florida swamp what do you think

Rats live everywhere, it's not possible or indeed necessary to eradicate them. As long as the kitchens are clean, I don't think it's a big deal. Since WDW is built in the middle of a swamp and the tourists leave lots of food around for rats to snack on, I can see why they like living there.

Rodents are nearly impossible to get rid of, and in a place like Disney they're highly beneficial. People don't understand how much garbage they really eat. It's the circle of life kiddies, and you have to understand what you might happen to see isn't 1% of what's really there.

Okay, I understand the whole circle of life thing and I like nature (even snakes), but I just don't get how rats are beneficial :goodvibes. Disney is totally capable of cleaning up their trash without the help of rats.

I would assume that it's related to allergies, or if an animal may have gone to the bathroom in the general area. They wouldn't have cleaned the stage yet. I'm sure the animals weren't carrying disease, and if they were, you couldn't have gotten it just by touching a paper leaf.

Whatever it was related to, I would think it would apply equally to wild rats scurrying around where the guests will be. They are constantly throwing confetti, streamers, etc., in the parks that kids pick up off the ground. Also, a dead rodent in a guest room?- Whatever they were worried about in the show- I would think it would apply to guest rooms as well.

We saw a rat shimmy up a pole in the seating area of the backlot express once. We pointed it out to the nearest CM (one who was restocking napkins near the beverage station) and she screamed and ran! :rotfl: We got a good laugh out of the whole situation! :lmao:

Now don't go sticking your hands in because of the poisonous snakes, but look in areas that are shrubs, long grass, etc. Those black boxes that are smaller than a shoe box are mouse/rat traps. Ex-DH works for the company that makes them and pointed them out all over DW.

In Tomorrowland one evening last May a rat crossed our path. Gave us quite a start!

On our last trip last week we had a rat in our room at boardwalk when we checked it we saw it run under the bed. Wasnt really a big deal i thought but the wife demanded another room.:confused3

I really hope you are kidding

Although I am not horrified that there are mice and rats and I have seen a couple cats at WDW ... they need my Jelly Bean there ... There would be no rats, mice or bugs! HA HA. (Actually, there is no mice catching inside my house for a LOOOONNNGG time ... because of the cats -- now only bug catching going on!).

And yes ... I do like the domesticated rat - cute picture but I wouldn't trust anyone in my house to play with it!

:)

Actually, I suspect the rules at the show have less to do with Disney's particular concerns for the health of their guests, than they do with the strict regulations that typically surround the licensing of animal entertainment shows.

Disney could be in for some serious legal trouble, if they don't follow the state regulations to the letter. And the last they want is to get shut down, because they let a kid grab a leaf from the stage and someone tattled on them to the local authorities.

A rodent in the guest rooms? As long as Disney is following/exceeding the standards for cleanliness at a resort, there's no reason for them to worry. Rats happen.

The guest, on the other hand, is perfectly in their rights to request a different room.

And if you're freaked out thinking about it... Have you ever parked your butt on a grassy lawn? Thought your kids were cute, rolling down a hill? Gone for a hike in the woods? Everything you touch has also been touched by an animal or insect, and the odds are good it's been pooped, peed or sprayed on in one way or another. (I think about this every time I pick up after my dog, and then see kids drawing in chalk on the same sidewalk not an hour later.)

Not to mention, rats are actually cleaner than squirrels.

...because your family members are all too rough with small animals? ("Gonna love him, and hug him, and call him George!")

There's raccoons all over the place as well, at least at MK. Many of the outdoor back stage areas regularly have raccoons hanging out in them, why just a couple weeks ago while I was dropping off fast passes there was a family of them walking around some of the dumpsters.

As for the rats they're just Mickey's cousins who fell on hard times so he lets them stay. But seriously when you have something thats so outdoors and that large you will get rodents, you could spend all the money in the world and they would still find a way to get in, especially with all the trash thats available for them.
