Hi! After reading a few of the posts I am starting to think I might need some help. I have booked the RPH for 4 nights, kid's play/stay and eat free with free rental car. Now I am thinking I could do just as well doing my own ressies. I have AAA and Lowes first. My questions:
1. what is the tax rate for Universal?
2. I got a total price of $1136.16 for the package. I am trying to save any money I can because I have to pay for a new dog to be taken care of while I am away (who knew it was so expensive!).
3. I really would rather stay at HRH but I have read some threads about the music playing all the time. Now I love my music - but I think I would go nuts if I had to listen to loud music everywhere 24/7 including around the pool. How loud/bad is it?? (Keep in mind I am sorry to admit I am almost through my 40's...ouch...and I am not as with it as I used to be!!)

I pulled out my breakdown sheet from our stay at HRH the end of aug. This was a club room...here goes$249.00 per night the tax is $28.64.$279.00 per night the tax is $32.09.This tax is applied every night of your stay!It can add up.Don't forget your parking fee if you have a vehicle(12.00)per night. The music at the pool is really not that loud and is turned off at night when pool closes. When you are in your room you cannot hear the music in the halls!I am also 40ish(o.k. 48)and I love the music! How old are your kids??I really need to do my trip report :confused3 :confused3

Thanks for the reply. My kids are 3 and 5. I'm wondering HRH or RPH for them. I like the looks of RPH but we have stayed at the Poly the last 2x at WDW - and I kind of want a different experience...but if I have to listen to Metallica or Chili Peppers all 4 days at the HRH I will go insane.
When I add parking and everything together it looks like $296 per day for room with tax and tickets (including car and parking) for family of four. Sounds to good to be true when that is less than my nightly room at WDW.
Does anyone think I can get significantly cheaper from doing it myself or going for AAA?

We've stayed at all 3. I love them all, really! This past June, it was RPR again. I guess I just try to rotate them. Are you flying - (We're from north jersey)? If you drive, you can take your new dog with you!

We have 3 boxers and have to board them now. We have a great place that charges me $40/night for them in 2 kennels. The regular rate is $15/night. PM me if you're interested - I don't know how far south you are.

I am 40, and I though the music at HRH was geared more to our age group than the younger set. My kids did not even recognize most of it.

The music is not that loud and not that current. It might be considered more classic than current. The music is played in the lobby, in the elevators and by the pool (also under the water). If you are looking for quiet HRH may not be for you but it realy is not that bad.

We're staying for 5 nights at Portofino Bay next week, $1700 and some change, tax included. That's about what the Grand Floridian ran us without tickets last spring. We are taking our dog with us, so no kennel fees. All I have left to figure in is the parking (yikes!) and our one time pet fee. Oh yeah, food and gas too. Thankfully, gas has come down here tremendously, ~$2.27 a gallon, down from ~$3.00 last month!

ETA, that is for the bay view room too, I think it's coming to something like $344 a night for the hotel, tickets included, this is the Play 4 free promo, we added another night last week.
