Rate the DVC Resorts from First to Worst

Yep, hard to disagree. (although surprised VDH is above some others)

1. VGC/BWV
2. AKV
3. BRV (I assume BLT will be somewhere down here too)
You know I thought thats where BLT would be for me but it actually surprised me. Getting a TPV in a lake view studio I think helped though lolol
1) VGC
2) Aulani
3) VGF
4) VDH
5) Poly & PolyT
6) BWV
7) AKV
8) BCV
9) RIV
10) BLT
11) BRV/CCV
12) VB
13) HHI
14) SSR
15) OKW
16) CFW
I am curious as to you having BRV and CCV so low but VGC so high. Usually people have them grouped closer together

Very surprised about BLT being so low on some people’s list. Awesome for me so I can swoop it up at 7 months. We loved our stay recently and it will be even better once the new rooms are done. Wish I had more to buy some points there but we are in college tuition paying times so no dvc for a few years.

I don't know if I'll use the wording 'worst' as the list gets near the bottom - this is mostly just a list of DVC places I've stayed at by preference of where I like staying the most and like staying the least. Not that the bottom of the list are 'bad', just that I generally don't prefer to stay there as much as the ones higher on the list. My home is Boardwalk.

1. Boardwalk. I bought there for a reason - proximity to Epcot. But other perks are walking access to DHS as well, plus 5 other resorts within walking distance for lots of restaurant and bar choices, and entertainment...and 4 other resorts easily accessible on Skyliner.

2. Saratoga Springs. Seems strange to put this one so high when I really enjoy the theming of others so much - but when it comes down to it, the convenience of walking access to Disney Springs for restaurants and nightlife, plus additional busses to any resort from there, make this a regular pick for me, especially when traveling solo.

3. Boulder Ridge. Just love the general atmosphere of the Lodge and grounds, especially in summer when its so hot - somehow the theming and design trick my mind into feeling just a little bit cooler.

4. Beach Club. Similar reasoning to Boardwalk, but I stay there less often because I have Boardwalk and the additional booking window.

*5. Cabins at Fort Wilderness. I haven't stayed here yet, so this is just a theoretical on where it will fit in my list - but I'll be staying there next year in late January and looking forward to it - my family stayed in the old cabins here for decades and just the overall relaxed vibe, golf carts to tool around in, boats to Contemporary and MK, picnicking in front of the cabin, etc. just feels so vacation-y.

6. OKW. for some of the same reasons as the Cabins at Fort Wilderness, when I stay here it gives me a getaway vibe - though I'm doing the parks, when I get 'home' I feel almost like I've left Disney's hustle and bustle and am just on a nice relaxing vacation. Love the boat to Disney Springs, love the Jimmy Buffet and reggae music on the grounds and boats, and love the giant rooms.

7. AK Lodge (Jambo). Beautiful theming, lovely atmosphere, always enjoy the main lodge, and often go to the resort even when not staying here. Downside for me, and reason I don't book as often, is that it feels the least connected of all the resorts - busses to EVERYTHING.

8. BLT. Even though access is so much better than AK Lodge with the monorail and boats, and walking distance to MK, I just never really gelled with the 'hotel' feel of the building. Long inner hallways, many floor elevators, smaller rooms, higher points (at least for the better views)...it just feels the least 'DVC" of any of the places I've stayed. Still enjoy my time there and make the most of the easy walk to MK and transportation to other resorts, but in general, it doesn't give me the DVC villa vibes as much.

I haven't stayed at Kidani, Villas of Grand Floridian (have stayed in the hotel, just not DVC side), Copper Creek (also have stayed at the hotel but not DVC), Polynesian (hotel yes, DVC no), or Riviera. I also have not stayed at any DVC outside of Disney World.

I live in the Pacific NW, and the idea of staying at a resort themed like my home that isn’t walking distance to a theme park really isn’t that interesting to me.

VGC is California Arts & Crafts, which I find to be much more old money upscale. It also has the perfect location and decades of personal memories.

My wife and I went on one of our first dates to downtown Disney (her choice) and we just sat in the lobby of the Grand Californian Hotel (2005?). I brought a bouquet of roses at the onset and she still laughs about having to carry them around all night and not knowing what to do with them.

If it wasn’t for VGC then I highly doubt we would be DVC owners.

Just a personal choice. We've stayed and not fans - ironically, attached to one of the WDW original, iconic resorts, it doesn't have a Disney feel for us! We have friends who love it, and we're glad they enjoy it. I'm glad you enjoy it! We have the same head scratching for folks not loving AKL like we do.... Just personal taste, preference, and in some cases an exceptional or a bad experience!

FWIW, my wife would probably have the following list:

1) VGC
2) Aulani
3) BLT
4) BW/BC
5) VGF
6) VDH

and then everything else is irrelevant (PolyT may be nice enough to be added to the list, depending on the quality of materials used)

Her main criteria:

1) Can I get to where I want by walking? Huge negative points if there is any chance of being suspended in the air with no way out.
2) How many bathrooms does it have in a 1/2 bedroom?
3) Can we easily get food the boys can eat (allergies)
4) Glam > Rustic
5) “Classy touches of Disney” > “Loud Disney”
6) West Coast = Best Coast
7) Quality of materials used in the rooms

Just the ones we have stayed at - truthfully they are all really close in how much we love them. We are also a couple that only stays in 1 bedrooms. Where we stay largely depends on what we have planned for our trip but we always stay at our home resort (AKV) and we absolutely love it there.

1. AKV Jambo/Kidani
2. BWV
3. BCV
4. SSR
5. OKW

6. Poly: Bad experience with broken down monorails (or stink train as my DH calls it), bell services handing off our luggage to us in the room but physically restrained it until we handed over their tip - did they think we were going to stiff them? CMs laughed at us when we couldn't get into our room multiple times due to issues with the door and MB/phone keys and on and on. Don't think we will ever go back - but maybe will try out the tower? I did love the room once we were actually able to get into it. The issues we had did wreck the vibe of the place. But I do truly understand why so many people love the resort but, I don't think we will be back since our dollar can only stretch so far - meaning we only travel every other years as we fly from Vancouver Island.

We love Vancouver Island! The Empress hotel in Victoria is incredible.

Stayed in the 2 BR villas except the treehouse (3 BR)

OKW
Kidani Village
Grand Floridian
Saratoga Springs
Saratoga Spring Treehouses

WDW Only:

1. VGF - Premier resort, best customer service, best restaurants, great location. Can't be beat.
2. BCV - Similiar to VGF just at Epcot service isn't as good though.
3. Polynesian - The customer service here is off.
4. BWV - Beach Club light.
5. SSR - Nice quiet and relaxing.
6. BLT - Blah, last resort if nothing is available.
7-10. The places I haven't stayed at - OKW, BRV, CCV, RIV
11. Won't stay again - AKV. Huge, long walk and ride everywhere, dark long hallways, don't like anything about the place. Rather stay at cash moderate.

Non WDW only have done HHI, nice resort.

As with every list like this, it's subjective. My choices are based on a combo platter of emotional attachment, beauty, convenience, and how I feel when I stay at the resort.
1A. VWL (aka BRV): one of the last (and best) magically themed DVC resorts
1B. HHI: one word--relaxing
2. AKV: again, well-themed and enchanting
3. VGC: lovely resort right at the parks
4. CCV: Has the charm of the WL but lacks the serenity of its sister resort VWL
5. BLT: while not a huge fan of the high rise aspect, the convenience factor and the second bathrooms are a plus
6. SSR: love the proximity to DD and how quiet the non-main pool areas are
7: VGF: Try to love it, but it's just too high-end bland--not worth the extra points
8: RIV: Same as VGF, mixed with the whole high-rise concept
9: Poly: They've removed much of what used to make it magical, a rather stripped down version of the old magical Poly
10: VB: Sits on the ocean, but not near anything
11: BCV: Rather average theming, lots of hallways, but good location and pool
12: BWV: Location it has
13: OKW: While having spacious rooms, the resort is so spread out and a bit removed

The ones we’ve stayed at ranked:

PVB - OWN
VGF - OWN
AUL
BRV - OWN
BLT - OWN
CCR
SSR - OWN
AKVJ
AKVK
RIV
BWV
BCV
VB
OKW
HHI

I'm not surprised it's low on a lot of people's list because of the theming or lack thereof but I also think that people probably haven't even given it a shot. I think post-refurb the resort will be ranked higher again. Being able to walk back from MK to your resort is a huge perk as is having clear views of the fireworks from your resort. Even if you're not staying in a TPV room, having TOTW lounge and even being able to see the fireworks from the elevator area/skyway is really nice.

Oh fun to read everyone’s opinion!

1. BWV
2. CCV
3. AKL
4. OKW
5. Poly
6. VB
7. BLT
8. BCV
9. SSR
10. HHI
I agree, I love seeing what other people’s ideal trips are.. locations, & length of stay.
And based on your list (very similar to my own) I really need to check out OKW.

Yep, and I can’t wait to try it out!! ;)

Today I learned I am your wife. Or at least she and I agree on this list completely.

We own at GF and BLT and those are our top 2 resorts.
1. BLT when our kids were little as getting back to the room from Magic Kingdom was a priority and they loved the monorail going through the resort. Watching the fireworks from our room was a great perk.
2. GF What to say, great theming, great restaurants and on the monorail.
3. Board Walk. Stay here when going to pin events or when our vacation is EPCOT based.
4. Beach Club. As the kids got older this was one of the places they really loved. They love the water.
5. Saratoga Springs. Stayed here when we could not get into our preferred resorts. A very nice resort and walking to Disney Springs is a bonus.
6. Kidani Village. Took the kids grand mother here. Watching the animals is a bonus but transportation is an issue.
7. Hilton Head. Great resort. Lots of fun at the ocean and lots of non disney restaurants to try. We try to go here every few years.
Trying Riviera for the first time this fall. From what I have read it is a great experience.
