Rate the DVC Resorts from First to Worst

I was tempted to make one of these threads awhile back but I'm always somewhat scared to rip on other people's home resorts :X Not going to include AUL in this since I wouldn't compare VB or HHI to WDW resorts personally.

1. Riviera - LOVE the rooms even though it's location isn't as good as Crescent Lake resorts, I do wish it had a little more theming though like Portofino Bay at Universal but we love the skyliner, love Topolino's and the biggest factor in this choice was the rooms because that's a lot more important to us than the lobby and etc.

2. BWV - what can I say.. walking distance to Epcot, that picturesque turn of the century Boardwalk, good theming, sentimental value since I got engaged here, don't like having to go outside to grab food and endless hallways to get to the room, still wouldn't own here though because of 2042, would rather use SAP points to book a 1BR

3. BCV - location is amazing, wasn't that big of a fan of SAB or the rooms being in a separate building in the back.. still love this resort though, same 2042 reasoning as above, liked not having endless hallways to trek through

4. AKV - poor location but amazing lobby, food, good point charts, and savanna is unmatched, also club level is 👌

[Anticipating Poly to fall somewhere between 3 and 5, will finally get to stay there in a couple weeks]

5. VGF - amazing lobby, restaurants, but not a fan of the separate building as I generally like tower style hotels, also not a fan of the rooms personally, probably has my least favorite location of the monorail resorts (long walk to MK, farther walk from TTC), also don't like how crowded it gets during holidays

6. BLT - walking distance to MK and those views are amazing, just wish it had some type of theme

7. BRV - stayed after the refurb, beautiful rooms and love the main lobby at WL, but also appreciated the smaller lobby with Walt's trains, not a fan of boat transportation though and didn't care to share bus stops with FW

8. SSR - love the updated rooms, love congress park to be able to walk to disney springs and pick up dessert every night :P, not a fan of the internal bus loop and giant sprawling nature of the resort and no direct access to a park

9. OKW - large rooms.. but otherwise really didn't care for this one and this is where we spent our points first, rooms felt outdated, felt like it had all the cons of SSR without the benefit of being able to walk to Disney Springs, probably won't stay here again which I'm sure will make the OKW lovers happy :P

Of those which ones have you stayed at? Or have you stayed at all of them except CFW?

I’ve stayed in everything except VDH and CFW, so here is my personal list (probably not what others would have, but just my opinion):

1) Aulani - the best DVC by far IMHO, through a 1 or 2 bedroom is a must for the kitchen.

2) BLT - we really love it and should have bought more points here

3) VGF1 - beautiful property, just don’t get the dreaded Porte cochère room

4) VGC - loved our stay here and the dedicated park entrance.

5) SSR - since the update, some of the best rooms on property and good point values

6) VB - the best lobby scent in all of DVC.

7) Kidani - love that you can park under the units. Big 2 bedroom units. Standard point charts are nice.

8) BRV - Great property and bigger rooms than CCV

9) CCV - but rooms are a tad small

10) Jambo - same as above, rooms are smaller than Kidani

11) HHI - great for a week getaway!

12) BCV - nice for Epcot, but a haul from the parking lot and from the main building.

13) RIV - rooms were nice, but way too many points and I don’t get the upscale feeling that others say they get. Maybe I’m missing something.

14) BWV - parking situation is terrible

15) OKW - just not my favorite, but I do like the 2 bedrooms. Hate when I’m on a second or third floor in a building with no elevators.

16) VGF2 - I mean, they are just hotel rooms

We have 4 home resorts and love them all for different reasons. We don’t do studios so layout comments are all related to 1 or 2 br. We almost always stay at home resorts. Our style preferred style is being able to walk to parks with a balance of afternoon downtime and sit down meals mixed in. We are creatures of habit and thought about doing a split stay this October but couldn’t find a non home resort at WDW that we wanted to try so we extended our BCV reservation by 1 night instead.

#1 - BCV. Love the location and hidden sidewalk to Epcot. I would place as first because of the DVC quiet pool. Lots of food options.

#2 - VGF. Love the location and food options. Pool situation is not as great as BCV. Spouse would list as first because of room layout.

#3 - VGC. Location, location, location. The room layouts are nice and lots of food options.

#4 - BLT. We usually use our BLT points as SAP but are also very happy to stay there. Location, love the food and shopping options at Contemporary. Kind of large side in terms of whole building but manageable since it’s a tower.

#5 - Poly. We’ll only stay here in the bungalows. The plunge pool and view are awesome. Resort wise the other pools seem crowded but we love the food options and being able to walk to TTC and (once the tower is done) walking to GF and MK.

#6 - Aulani. Love the resort and pools! The food situation is saved by the neighboring Four Seasons resort. I would have placed it higher on the list but we don’t go very often. Spouse is not a huge fan of lying around all day at the pool or beach. Park vacations give us a better balance of activity and lounging.

#7- SSR. The resort was so spread out it was hard to navigate. We did not like having to depend on buses but walking to DS was nice. We won’t stay here again because it’s not our thing.

I love DVC resorts! This is such a tough question because sometimes my favorite resort happens to be whichever one I’ve stayed in recently. I am a MK resort girl. I love all of the MK resorts and tend to want to begin or end my days in MK vs. any other parks. We drive to the other 3 parks so transportation doesn’t matter to us.

1. VGF- studios, resort studios, larger villas. I’ll take whatever. I love when the sun starts hitting the beautiful grounds in the morning. The boats in the marina and the monorail coming alive as families start waking up and starting their Disney days. Pools and food options are all good.

2. Copper Creek- CC is really almost tied with VGF. My husband dislikes GF so if it’s a family trip this is our number 1 choice. The theming is amazing and doesn’t feel like you are anywhere near Disney. Love the fireplaces and tucked away places to chill out. Food options are pretty good. If it is Xmas season and the tree is up, WL > GF in my opinion. I like both pools but I could see the kids wanting bigger slides as they get older. My kids love WCC.

3. BLT- the views! As an MK person who loves Disney transportation I love the views here. We only have done standard or lake view but i like to go all the way up and watch the transportation bringing everyone to MK. You can see all of the monorails resorts with monorails, ferries, resorts boats and the bus station at MK and I love it!🥰. We did love getting mobile order from Steakhouse 71 everyday for lunch. Dh got the burger and I got the salad. So nice to have that option. The pools are fun just not very themed. I did love that DD could go on the slide 600 times and I could see her without having to move from my spot in the pool.

4. BRV- same pros as CCV. The new rooms look awesome and I want to stay there. From videos I think I would even prefer the new rooms to CC. The trains are cool to see. I just prefer being in the main building.

5. Poly- I want to like Poly more. We didn’t have the best stay here but that was my family not the resort. Will give it another shot when the tower options. I do love the theming, food options and the pool. Dislike the crowds at the main pool. I have small, loud kids and even I am always a little overwhelmed at the chaos of the crowded lava pool. The fireworks view is nice and the monorail to Epcot is cool.

——————————————————————————————————————————

Are there more resorts outside MK? The others are all pretty close together for me.

6. BCV- the pool is cool but a little overwhelming with little kids. We haven’t stayed here since we’ve had our youngest kids. Probably soon. The walk to Epcot can’t be beat though. I do like the theming and Beaches and Cream.

7. AKV- haven’t stayed here in a long time. I prefer being close to the other parks. The views are cool. Food is good. Will stay here again once they redo the rooms.

8. SSR- the rooms are nice, the pools are awesome. The walk to Disney springs is cool. Would stay here anytime especially if we aren’t hitting the parks much.

9. Riviera- is beautiful. I love the rooms, artwork and food choices. My family just aren’t skyliner people. Much prefer to walk to a park or use a boat. Probably won’t stay here again unless the kids want to.

We haven’t stayed at the others. Would like to try them all but it take some time since we tend to stay at one of our top 3 choices. We also love to visit Fort Wilderness and I have always wanted to stay at the cabins. I have booked them multiple times before they were dvc but then i remember I’m not really an outdoor/ camping kind of person. So we continue to get boat over from Copper Creek. Maybe one we will try a cabin.

We also haven’t stayed at Boardwalk yet. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It looks cool and the pool looks fun. I have booked that too but always end up switching. The lack of counter service is usually what gets me. The rooms are a little bit out of my style even though they were just redone.

We have stayed at Aulani and that is the best. Was really hoping when they did the Poly tower they took some tips from there when doing the pool area.

1. BWV - this is our oldest resort and we've definitely stayed here the most. The feelings of comfort and the memories with our children make it our top choice.
2. OKW - The first DVC we ever stayed at, and man, those rooms are huge. We love the vibe of this resort - so chill. We're now past the point of being park commandos, so the relaxing atmosphere here is essential for us.
3. Boulder Ridge - again, love the vibe here, ESPECIALLY during the holidays.
4. BCV - great energetic resort, and the best place to stay if you're spending a lot of time at Epcot. Plus, SAB is always a hit. Oh, and Hurricane Hanna's doesn't hurt its ranking either!🍻:drinking1
5. VGC - we've only stayed here twice, but the location to California Adventure simply cannot be beat. I am partial, however, to WDW over DL which I know is blasphemy to most...
6. SSR - An under-appreciated place with an abundance of pools and some amazing grand villas. The location to DS and golfing is fabulous. The only downfall here is your stay can be greatly impacted by the room location.
7. VGF - Solid location, beautiful rooms (who doesn't love those mirrors!?), monorail or walk to the MK. Excellent dining on premises. Problem is the point chart is a killer. I can easily get two stays at other places for the points here.
8. CCV - rooms are narrow, kitchens are crammed in sideways. Just don't care for the room layout, but love the resort! Geyser Point - talking to you! 🍺🍾🥂
9. Kidani & Jambo (tied) - Cool resort. Great idea. But we are FAR from everything, and transportation takes forever it seems whenever we've stayed at either of the AK places. The parking at Kidani is great, but your room could be a LONG ways from any elevator. We just feel too isolated here.
10. BLT -Good location, but that's it. Don't love the theme, the rooms, or the high rise type of building. It just doesn't say "Disney" to me. Walking to the MK is a huge plus, but not enough to overcome the other aspects of the place.
11. Poly - probably the least fave DVC resort we've stayed at, and I know I could get killed here for saying that. The Poly just isn't our thing. Don't love the resort, can't for the life of me understand the infatuation with 'Ohana, and most of the views from the beach are now gone (bungalows).
12 - We haven't stayed at the new Ft Wilderness cabins (and probably never will), Aulani (plan to be here next year), HHI, or VB. We would try Riviera, but not sure how much we love the high rise... Plus, it's a lot of points here that could go much further at other resorts...

WDW resorts

VWL( aka BRV) CCV
We have only stayed in cabins at CCV, but those stays were amazing

BWV, BCV

BLT

SSR

AKL, JAMBO and KIDANI

RIV

VGF

POLY

OKW

Others….We have stayed in all of these..PLUS AUL.VB, HHI. VGC….we thoroughly enjoy all of these and we own at VB and HHI.

1. AUL - It's paradise
2. AKL (Jambo) - Best WDW hotel I've stayed at. Lobby, animals, etc. Location is sub optimal for most parks but still acceptable.
3. SSR - Too spread out but the proximity to Disney Springs moves it up a few notches. Recent refresh so the rooms are pretty nice. We bought our points here as a value play and we have been presently surprised.
4. BLT - Rooms just didn't vibe with me. Location is great for walking to the Magic Kingdom but otherwise is kind of crap because the resort monorail is always going the opposite direction of what you want. I wanted to love this place so badly and just came away disappointed.
5. OKW - Basically SSR with older rooms and further from Disney Springs.
6. HHI - Relaxing but the lack of any food service for dinner was surprising. Hilton Head Island in general was kind of lack luster IMO and I don't think we will ever go back.

Lol I just realized my list is pretty much Epcot/HS based, then AK, then MK which follows our preference of parks 🤣

This is so true about the favorite being the last one we were at!
I just wanted to throw out there that Boardwalk's food situation has gotten much better in the past few years. We have a lot of allergies, so food is extra important, but even with complicated people we could eat all week at the Deli and coffee shop if we needed to. There's also the pizza window, by this Fall there will be that corndog place, plus the ice cream shop is open now. We actually expected to hate the BW but stayed once and the kids loved it so much we picked up enough points for a week stay. It's now in the circle of favorites, the quiet pool with community hall was really what pushed it up in rank for us.

We've never risked going over the CC or BR, everyone ranking them so high is making me want to try them.

Here's my list (only including places I've actually stayed, which leaves out quite a lot!):
1. VGF - The flagship; love the look; rooms are wonderful; walk or boat ride to MK; pontoon rentals; great restaurants; fireworks
2. RIV - Amazing rooms; love the overall feel of the tower; morning coffee shop; Awesome restaurants; Skyliner!
3. VGC - love the lodge feel, similar to CCV; location, of course; rooms need some love; great restaurants; Storyteller Cafe
4. CCV - Love the woodsy feel of this place; lots of good memories; Geyser Point; Storybook Dining
5. AKL - Savannah view; Boma; Love the lobby and gift shop
6. VDH - Like the theming; had some glitches in our room; long walk to parks compared to VGC
7. SSR - Nice to be near DS; Like the refurbed rooms; Too far from the park action for me; prefer indoor hallways

Staying soon: Poly, never stayed there before!

Want to stay: BCV, BWV, BRV, BLT; Would be tempted to buy some of these if not for 2042.

Non-DVC honorable mention: Yacht Club! Please convert a portion to DVC!

That's great to hear about BWV. We are doing a one night stay before our DCL cruise in Nov. to give it a shot.

There’s not a resort we wouldn’t stay at, we just love being on property and sometimes I can’t believe we get to stay at the deluxe resorts as often as we do. This tends to be our general favorite order but our mood does change depending on the season, too. I’ll add the ones I haven’t actually stayed in but have visited in parentheses based on the feeling of the resort and how I think I’d rank it.

1. RIV- the rooms, the art, the skyliner, the food, the compact size of the resort, and just the overall feel is perfect for us. It’s bougie, but where VGF gives me stuffy, older, rich people vibes, RIV is more laidback, younger classy feeling. And I actually think the SV point chart is really reasonable considering the look, size and feel of the rooms; most times of the years it’s only a little more than BCV, CCV, and BLT.

2. Poly- the resort the whole family loves, it feels so magically Disney to me, dole whip, location on Seven Seas is the best IMO, the boats, the VIBES. This is actually my current favorite (be there next week!) but it switches a lot with RIV. Don’t care for most the food options though, hopefully the tower adds something amazing food-wise. Actually, the tower might push it permanently to #1 depending on how the crowd/amenity infrastructure shakes out.

(3. BCV- haven’t stayed even though we own here lol. I think the love for this resort is pretty well known but yeah proximity to the IG entrance (our preferred entrance), SAB, the overall size of the resort, the boardwalk/Crescent Lake area in general, the skyliner, friendship boats. I feel like this and CCV will switch spots on this list often)

(4. CCV- haven’t stayed even though we own here too lol The overall esthetic and theming is incredible. I love the look of the rooms even if they’re a little smaller, the food options are great, CHRISTMAS. I’m going to lump BRV here even though I’m always going to prefer to be in the main building if given the chance. But the smaller lobby at BRV is pretty special in its own right)

5. VGF- we actually own the most points here but idk, we always leave here happy we stayed but it’s never wow, I can’t wait to be back. I also don’t love that the main villas building is so far from the boat dock and just a bit further from everything else. I love the theming and the rooms are stunning. It also has beautiful grounds and we always have enjoyed most of the food options.

6. VGC- the location truly is unmatched but I don’t really care for the Craftsman style architecture and theme, it feels like a less interesting version of Wilderness Lodge to me. The grand lobby is just as wowing as the other resorts with grand lobbies and even though I don’t really care for the craftsman feel, I can fully appreciate the details and the actual craftsmanship of work that went into the building.

(7. BWV- haven’t stayed here yet and I don’t really have anything bad to say. I would only want to stay here in a BW view room so that eliminates the long hallway problem. The Boardwalk area is one of my favorite areas just to hang out at outside of the parks so that’s definitely a massive plus to the resort but I’m a weirdo and I like the idea of taking a little trip from RIV on the skyliner and walk over to visit, more than staying there permanently for our trip lol)

8. AKL- Technically we didn’t stay at Kidani like we booked, we got moved from our 1bdrm to a studio on the hotel side at Jambo because of the state of our room on check-in so not the best intro to the resort. Plus our room was pretty much at the far end of the resort and we hauled all our things there across that endless carpet (why are all the long hallways carpeted???…ok I know why, it’s just v annoying dragging suitcases on it lol) and then had to haul it back an hour later later when they moved us 🤦🏼‍♀️ The rooms are definitely a bit worn but the size and theming are amazing. And of course, the savanna view softened some of that initial pain. Plus, we love the food options here and at Jambo. The hotel room at Jambo was beautiful though and I hope the refurb looks something like that! I think this might move up in its ranking after the refurbishment and once we get a proper stay.

(9. VDH- have Halloween night booked here so we’ll see how it goes:) I like the theming and the rooms look beautiful in videos. The extra walk from the parks doesn’t bother me if the resort is good enough so hopefully it will be the case)

10. OWK- the vibes of this resort are so good idk it just feels like vacation lol The rooms aren’t my favorite look but the space is 👌🏼 I really love the hospitality house area and the grounds are so lovely and relaxing. The resort also just feels more manageable than SSR. Oh and the amazing point chart!

11. SSR- the rooms are beautiful, the grounds are beautiful (though I prefer the grounds at OWK a little more I think), the point chart is beautiful lol. We never really go to DS so that doesn’t really do much for me. We also don’t drive in WDW so the bus situation is not great and really adds a lot of time, but for a more relaxed trip this would be great. Don’t like the lobby or food options though.

(12. BLT- the location is good, not my favorite walk on property but it’s super close to MK, of course, and having its own security check is great. I’d really only stay here in a TPV but with that amount of points I’d probably choose other places. I know I just said there’s no resort we wouldn’t mind staying but this might be the one place we won’t really be staying at if there are any other choices. It’s better than nothing but there’s really not much of a draw here for us, maybe that will change slightly after the full refurbishment)

This is hard, because there's a couple I"d probably rate higher, but we've either only stayed once, or used to love them more, and it's hard not to give the nod to our 'home' But I'll give it a go.
I'll also add we currently do not stay in studios, except a few times at the Poly. Really, the next 3 after BWV are all kinda tied.

BWV-it's home for us, and where we've stayed over half the time, so I feel I have to pick it, Location, location, location. Able to walk to our 2 current favorite parks. BUT, and a really big BUT, is the difficulty getting standard 2 bedrooms even at 11 months (or if we one day want to get studios) and having only 1 bathroom, weirdly set up, for the 1 bedroom. Points are pretty low for standard view rooms.

AKL-Kidani - Animals, views, and unique atmosphere, good pool, and food, extra bathroom in the 1 and 2 bedrooms, love the rooms. BUT not walkable to any park, and slow transportation to anywhere but AK.

CCV - first time stay this past March. LOVED it. Loved Wilderness lodge feel, pool, easy to get to MK, room layout. Will say, we didn't go to any other park, so not sure how bad busses would be.

Polynesian- love the resort, I know a lot is nostalgia, but easy walk to TTC for Epcot monorail and easy to get MK monorail, or walk now that there's a path. But currently only having studios has made us not stay often, but maybe will try again soon.

BCV- only stayed once, but location was wonderful. I loved the SAB pool. Rooms were nice. But we can stay cheaper at BWV in a standard, so we always pick it over BCV, but I loved the resort.

BLT- location great, easy to get to Contemporary, walk to MK, and extra bathroom in 1 and 2 bedrooms.

Vero - great beach resort, but it's been many years since we stayed. I remember loving the pool, beach, rooms, but after they got rid of the seafood buffet, NO good food options. Maybe that's changed.

SSR - gave it another chance in March, and just nope. We spent so much extra time waiting on the busses, that I would never stay here again, unless we were mainly doing DS/resort stay, and/or driving ourselves, or no other options. I did like the very close proximity to getting offsite, like less than 15 mins to the nearby Bahama Breeze. And room are very nice, and easy parking.

OKW - condo/apt feel. Stayed 2 nights in 2013. No desire to stay there again, unless nothing else available. I remember I did like the size of the rooms, but busses took a long time.

DH did stay at Riviera and loved it, so will just throw that out there. and GFV, in the new ones. He said that was fine. Good for location, We've never chosen it due to the extra point costs, but I do hope to stay there one day, and RIV, well, all of them eventually.

Okay only where we have stayed at -

1) VGC - Amazing place. The entire family has a huge smile even when we get on the road to go here. Magical in it's winter decor but not too bad for other seasons too. Iconic location and view on the theme park side. Really looking forward to what the remodel does for it.

2) CCV/BRV - We love WL and CCV is amazing. IMO the best Grand Villa in the entire DVC portfolio. The remodel at BRV is nice and we love the charm of that 2nd lobby area.

3) AKV - It's got animals and an experience you can't match very easy. Great food.

4) VDH - It's magical. We love the rooms. Peak nostalgia here.

5) Riviera - such a good vibe. Love the resort, rooms, etc. Kids love the Skyliner.

6) SSR - actually looking forward to staying here again. Had a great time there during our first visit. Awesome value and good rooms.

An interesting pattern I am noticing. In general, if someone here loves Riviera, they dislike OKW and vice versa.

Options are a good thing!

RIV
VGF
BCV
BLT
BWV
SSR
PVB
CCV/BRV
AKV

Have not stayed at OKW. Or any other DVC resorts not at WDW.
My favorite is the Grand Cal lobby/location, Bay Lake theme park view, Villas Disneyland theming. Just dreaming….

To be honest, we’ve enjoyed all the DVC resorts for different reasons.
