I have been lurking for months and have gotten so much information that I feel really prepared for our trip. We are on the Dream in November for a Merrytime Cruise. My travel party consists of my husband and two sons (ages 16 & 2), my parents and my aunt and uncle. My husband and I last cruised the Wonder in 2003, so this is WAY overdue! Also, a lot has changed since then so I do have a couple random questions.
1. I'm considering the Frozen meet and greet because my 2 year old LOVES Olaf. Is he always there? Also, will I need to get tickets for all 8 of us? I know the grandparents will want to see him and his excitement. Didn't know if they could just watch without needing a ticket.
2. My family uses essential oils and we diffuse them nightly. Will I be allowed to bring a small diffuser, that uses a USB plug, to use in our room? Odd question, but can't go without them!!
I'm sure I will think of other things before we go. Thanks for all the great information on this board.

When we did the Frozen meet and greet, it took place in one of the restaurants and they took the tickets at the entrance, so no one was admitted inside without a ticket. The tickets are free, so it wouldn't be extra cost to you to get extras. That being said, if you explained that the Grandparents were just going to observe from the back, they might let them in. Olaf is definitely there :)

Candles and incense are on DCLs prohibited items list (it doesn't specifically mention oils), however electrical appliances including warmers are also prohibited. Do be certain, it would probably be best to contact DCL and ask.

I hope you have a great cruise :)

Although you consider essential oils indispensable, others may find them to be offensive. The smell will enter other people's cabins. People who smoke in their rooms get charged a large cleaning fee. An oil diffuser may also get you this cleaning bill.

If someone wants to go in the room where the meet & greet is, they need a ticket. Even if they do not actually go up and meet the characters. However, if not everyone goes, you only have to get tickets for those who will be going.

The characters can be absent. I've read reports that Elsa, Anna, as well as Olaf, have occasionally not been in attendance (guess they had pressing business in Arendelle).

These oils don't carry that far. I can't smell them from one room to the next in my own home so that's not a concern. I find some peoples perfume offensive, and they can bring on a migraine, but there are no rules against those.

Thank you! Guess I will get tickets and hope Olaf isn't too busy that day!

You may not be able to smell them from another room because you are used to the smell and you find it to be pleasant. What you find to be pleasant someone else may find to be offensive, just like you find some perfumes to be offensive. If someone finds the oil smell to be offensive, they will smell it outside of your room.

We did the "frozen meet and greet" last month on the wonder. I think it's billed that way so any of them can show up, but no one specific is promised. Elsa and Olaf are who showed up for us, but Anna and christoph were also seen earlier in the week on board, so you never know.

Ignoring the "offensive or not" discussion, the bottom line is the warmer. Given the very similar list of other things with heating elements that are not allowed, I'm 99% sure they will be confiscating it.

Now would be a good time to look into alternatives like a spray if you truly "cannot sleep without them".

I would bet a diffuser is on the ban list. First, a heating element on a ship is a danger to everyone. Second, burning oil on a ship that can rock is dangerous as well. If you can't live without it, I would not go on a cruise ship. Since you label it as "essential" once it is confiscated, you will exit the ship?

The other point that pp made was there is a significant charge for people who smoke in their rooms. Regardless of whether the scent is enjoyable or not, if DCL deems it something that will linger in the furniture, they will charge you that significant charge for deep cleaning your stateroom. If I were you, I wouldn't consider using something like this in your room without checking with DCL and getting 'permission' in writing or you might not be a very happy cardholder a few months down the road.

Also, as others have said, anything that has a warmer to warm the oils, could be a risk. You might have it confiscated for this reason. You said it's USB-run. Does that mean you are plugging it into a USB wall plug or are you plugging it into your laptop USB plug?

I completely understand wanting to avoid any extra charges! This diffuser actually doesn't use any heat at all. It uses the electricity to create vibrations and then a very fine mist. Its similar to a vaporizer, but it's the size of a travel mug. I really hadn't thought about where we would plug it in to be honest. I will definitely check with DCL before we go. If it's not possible, we will make it through!!

This got me thinking, is it much different than a plug in air freshener? I was planning to bring a combo night light air freshener plug in.

I like essential oils, but I don't kid myself. They absolutely positively DO travel.

I was just at a dance expo, and we were at a booth that had nothing to do with anything smelly. Probably 25 feet away (in a huge call) one way was a hair product booth, and 25 feet the other way was a Young Living booth. From the booth I was in, I was getting the craziest combo of those two smells.

Essential oils travel FAR. All smells do.

Yep.

Perhaps you could put some of the essential oils on a few cotton balls or such and pull it out of a ziplock bag at night. Just a thought.

Yep. Terrific idea.

At the expo they put a drop of oil on a cotton ball to put into a dance bag. It's been 3 days and it's still smelling great (better than dance shoes at least!), and it's not in plastic or anything like that.

I love the way those oils smell! Unfortunately anything like that is banned due to fire hazard. No plug in christmas lights either which I was bummed about but fully understand.

I have done the Frozen M&G on 3 cruises and have never seen Olaf at any of them, always A&E
