Random advice for future visitors....... :)

on a slightly different topic.....

While in line for the safari last Thursday morning, the "dad" must have gone off to get FP's for another ride while mom and the kids got in that line. About 2/3 of the way through the line, the mom starts talking to dad on the cell phone telling him that he needs to meet up with them in line and that NOBODY is going to care if he has to cut through them to catch up with his family.

Dad wasnt having any of it and then after she hangs up the phone, mom starts blasting dad to the kid that she cant believe that he wont cut in front of all the people to meet up with them.

Thought that it was a nice change since so many people dont seem to have trouble in cutting through a line to meet up their party for one reason or another.

WOW, she said infront of everyone, WOW.

2. ECV's are not race cars - We are all in a hurry, but running into people and trying to zig zag people just isnt a good idea. One of these days, somebody is going to end up really hurt due to an ECV / walker accident. People with double strollers are almost as bad.

5. Single file or pairs work best - yes you have a cute family and it really is adorbale how you all like to walk hand in hand down the sidewalk in front of the stores on mainstreet (and other places), but when you are a family of 4 or 5 doing that it makes it REALLY hard for others to walk around you and get to where we are trying to go.

What a crack-up! Loved your post, but had to comment on two things:

Regarding ECVs: I had the opposite problem. Have had to rent an ECV the last two trips due to severe foot pain, and my biggest problem was the dozens of people who (literally) stepped right in front of my moving vehicle, as if I wasn't there! It was scary. I was very paranoid that I was going to hit someone - all day long, people would step just a few inches in front of me while I was moving, forcing me to stop abruptly. I am very respectful of others when using an ECV, and was just appalled at how many times this happened. Folks, these things don't have brakes! To stop, you have to release the lever and wait for the ECV to roll to a stop. By walking right in front of me, you are taking a chance of being hit. (Sorry, rant over!)

My other pet peeve is the large groups of people walking side-by-side. They often take up 2/3 of the path, and are so hard to maneuver around (especially in an ECV!). If you have a larger group, please don't block the path! Break your group up into smaller groupings, and be aware of other people trying to get through!

i dont sit at parades and people think im rude for getting there early, being tall, and blocking their view. why dont i sit? well if you tried to sit on the dirty pavement at a parade in nyc you would get trampled so i just never thought to do that at disney. i mean how am i gonna see a float that far off the ground sitting? if i choose to get there early and stand then you should respect that instead of trying to push your kids in front of me so that they can have a front row seat.

and second the kid thing. every time i went to use the darn waterslide at the hotel the kids would try to cut me, when i stood my ground they were soooo confused an adult might be trying to go down the slide. the dads at the other end of the slide never seemed to mind me going down though. :lmao:

i respect diversity but rude is not diversity.

I believe he was nominated for saint-hood by all those whom have been line-cut. ;)

My mom and stepdad took me to Disney every year from about 1984-1997. And every year, they videotaped every parade and show. And that was with a gigantic video camera, not the nice small ones they have now. Do you know how many times we watch those videos??? Zero!!! And I'm a Disney fanatic, but even I don't want to sit and watch them. :rotfl2:

We went in 1974 and Dad filmed the parade on Super 8 (LOL...no sound). Every time we would get the old projector out and watch our films we would always moan and groan when the MK parade one was playing (my family isn't organized so no one ever labeled the films).

I realize that I have a bit of a twisted sense of humor but our traveling group will be three adults and two older teenages and I had planned on making "WDW Bingo" cards for our group as a joke. I think it will make the people watching more amusing. Who ever bingos first gets a silly prize like a Mickey bar.

I had plans to include items like "Toddler Meltdown" "Wearing a Bellyshirt but Shouldnt" "Mullet Alert" "She Didn't Leave the House in That" etc. This thread has given me some great additions to our list. "Celebrating the Future Hand in Hand Family" "A Daring Baring of Betty and Boop" "Shirtless and Shameless" "Whale Tail" "Main Street Mapreader" "Parade Poacher" "Pixel Police"

I am open to suggestions if you have more. ;)

I would see this as a problem if someone just came up and cut into the line out of nowhere. In a case where it's a Dad re-joining his family, I see no problem with this.:confused3

This post did bring up a lot of issues that are really frustrating. I really was stressed out after my trip in February. I was so crowded and it really was annoying to get bumped into and cut in front of all day. Not to mention trying to get around those families walking side by side 5-wide. Really annoying. At the beginning of the trip, my DD was saying "excuse me" each time someone bumped into her or she bumped into a stopped person. It got funny even. At the end of the trip, she was so frustrated :headache:and wasn't being as naive and polite as when we started for sure!
I tried to explain that each group of people were having their own Disney experience and that everyone is in their own world having their own vacation.
I guess I should have just told her that the world is a rude place!! Even at WDW. She figured it out on her own, I think.

Just back from the world last week and thought I would share some random thoughts and advice for others....

1. Stopping in the middle of a mob to read a map is a GREAT idea---really, the 1000s of us in the mob going to TS Mania at opening really want to run into you when you decide (for reasons known only to you) that you need to stop and look at the map in the middle of that mess.

2. ECV's are not race cars - We are all in a hurry, but running into people and trying to zig zag people just isnt a good idea. One of these days, somebody is going to end up really hurt due to an ECV / walker accident. People with double strollers are almost as bad.

3. Wait times are really just a # on a sign -- We rode a # of rides where the wait times were either double or half of what they were listed as. I appreciate the concept of having them posted (if I dont have a fast pass) but most of times were 10-15 mins off..either better or worse.

4. Please find a seat prior to the start of the parade -- yes, the guide says that it starts at 9...however, that doesnt mean you can show up at 8:55 and expect a front row seat and then complain in a load voice that it just isnt right that you cant find a front row seat to watch a parade that starts in 5 minutes.

6. Speaking of pairs...yes you have a nice 'chest', however this is Disney World --- As a guy I will say you have a nice set and I fully enjoy looking at them. However, with all the kids around, do you think that is REALLY the most appropriate shirt to wear to the parks. At a pool, perhaps...but walking through the park the twins shouldnt be popping out.

7. You can delete a digital picture -- From time to time (sometimes even my family) people will occassionaly step into someone else's picutre while walking. While we might have tried to avoid it, we cant just necessarily come to a complete stop (see #1 above) in all cases. If the pic doesnt come out, you can just hit the delete button and try again. Your loud obnoxious comment about having to "TAKE IT AGAIN SINCE SOMEONE STEPPED INTO MY PICTURE!!" really wasnt need.

I think that is all for now, if people have other helpful suggestions please feel free to list them! :)

I did want to add that despite the comments above, we did have a great week except for the crazy heat / humidity that was overtaking central Florida.

Let me see if I've got this right? ECVs should just stay behind people, go slowly and be at the mercy of the walking speed of other guests. BUT Those same walking guests should walk either single file or (if they have to) in pairs so that you and others can get around them? Hum - sounds kind of like a double standard to me

Love this idea! I am an avid people watcher. I am sometimes just fascinated with folks and their strange behaviors. I am also aware that we might be the ones "being watched" as well! I'll be on the lookout for people pointing at me and writing something on a card! LOL!

How about Group O'Shrews? I'm just saying... :rolleyes1

No, ECV's should attempt to go at the normal flow of traffic....not faster just because they can. I saw more than one driving like they just left Daytona as they were trying to zoom in and out of the crowds.

The people going 5 wide slows down everyone else behind them if they can't pass and usually leads to the traffic jams occurring.

If people are going side by side they are essentially the same width as the ECV's and there shouldnt be any issues with both groups going at a 'normal' speed.

I'd agree if it's a 1 person on a 1 time case....typically though it's multiple people trying to 'cut' back into line with the groups and sometimes it's even more than 1 person that went go get the FP's.

Imagine what would happen if every group did this....send somebody to go get a FP while the rest of the party went into a busy line (for a FP attraction) and then had them rejoin them later by working their way up through the line. I think that would be a really big mess and cause lots of issues, both for guests and Disney.

I may have to use that as the FREE space and look in the mirror. ;)

I am going to add "Hapless Husband" to the list though in honor of the poor guy we ran into at DHS. We had four FPs for ToT and tried to give them away. We offered them to this poor guy as we were leaving and he turned to his wife, looking confused, and said "I don't know. Honey, Can I take these???"

Maybe these can go with #6 since they pertain to clothing.

Can we add Speedos to the list? I don't care if you're wearing that where you live but at WDW, there are way too many kids and teens that really don't want or need to see THAT. Not to mention it's usually the ones that shouldn't be wearing them that do so I certainly don't want to see it!

Oh, and maybe the tank tops with hairy backs, too. I understand that it's nature and all that, but I don't want it rubbing on me in line when you back into me.
