I'll give you an "oh please" right back. "Oh please, you have no clue what it was like to grow up in a communist country." Even after the fall of communism, around 2000, doctors we knew made perhaps $150-200 a month. Teachers even less. That's WHEN they got paid. Sometimes they went months without a paycheck, but they weren't allowed to quit. So yeah.....traveling the world as a highly paid model looked pretty good. Again, they tend to be realists.

My own DD does have impossibly long legs, but she has quite a good mind as well, and being raised in the US, she has a different reality. The focus has always been on academics, because that will serve her best in the long run. That is her reality HERE.

Two different realities. People talk about white privilege, but I think some here are being a little Western-centric and cannot fathom what it's like to grow up without the blessings and opportunities we have here in abundance. Either that or they are being willfully ignorant.
You hit the nail on the head. We are VERY fortunate and have many opportunities. I'm reminded of this every time we leave the country.

I agree with you. And I think that women in some other parts of the world have it even worse than them, sadly.

It was meant to be a harsh dose of reality. What are some of these posters going to do the day their children make a mistake? And SOME will. Kids do stupid things. We teach them better and they still mess up. I've known smart girls who send nudie pics. SMH. If you hold the attitude that a professional model having her photo taken nude makes her some kind of awful human being (and that seems to be what some are saying) then how do you deal with your DD sending a nudie pic to a buy? And it's easy to say it won't happen, but unless you have no DDs. it just might. Would you say about her the things you are saying about MT? Something to think on.

We're not talking about teens. We are talking about the FLOTUS. HUGE difference. Huge.

Frankly, your explanation doesn't hold water. You attacked other posters through their children. People's kids should be strictly off limits.

I think the poster was referring to the fact that Melania isn't exactly a deep issue, intellectual type. Seems very vapid and superficial. Not about the no politics rule.
Well, she is a college drop out, only speaks 6 or 7 languages, appears to be a loving and concerned mother...must be vapid and superficial.

Looking through the news, lots of headlines suggested that Melania "channeled" Jackie Kennedy.

And that is the picture of Jackie Kennedy that has been colorized to look blue. Back to the original argument, I have no idea who or why thought that needed to be done. The coat and hat were actually very tan. Other than this colorized version all of the other photos of this image that I could find were in black and white. And other than that fake color there is nothing reminiscent of the other. Much longer loose coat, big buttons, big pockets, fur collar, fur muffler, hat, minimal makeup, hair down. What part of that image is repeated in the other?

And now cue the rude responses of "don't you know anything, I meant style".

That's actually an interesting thought.

Regardless of which side politically you fall on, if we're saying that Melania Trump shouldn't aspire to be First Lady because she was once a model & posed nude, are we then telling every girl out there that does similar things that they can never have any kind of political aspirations or ambition beyond what/where they currently are?

I do believe we're free to make our own choices, but we're not free from the consequences of those choices. So is the consequence of once posing nude being banned from any kind of governmental position - even if your "position" is just a spouse of a government official?

Is there a double standard for men in the political arena vs. women in the political arena? And, if so, isn't that one thing we're trying to change?

And, again, this is general politics... I'm not trying to be specific. I just found the situation thought-provoking & interesting.

Melania's? It would be beautiful for Easter or Christmas or a wedding or any number of things!

I guess it depends on where you live. Women don't dress that formally at our church. We don't dress up for Easter dinner or Christmas. A wedding? Hmm maybe if if was somewhere super duper fancy in the winter as it has long, hot looking sleeves.
Sorry I don't really see it. Seems like more of a red carpet thing to me. Sorry my opinion.

Let me enlighten you. We met COUNTLESS individuals with advanced degrees who could not get a job of any kind. Not even a menial job. There were no jobs to be had. They had stellar educations, excellent training......and no hope of employment. It was a fantastic day if a tourist paid them to be a driver or tour guide. It was better money than they would have made in their actual profession, and considering they weren't going to get jobs in their field anyway, they were grateful for whatever employment they could get. A Ph.D. may bring you pride in accomplishment, but if you can't earn a cent from it, it begins to lose some of its shine. It's well and good to say, "You should use your brain, work hard and get ahead that way," but if there are NO opportunities, that is an empty and meaningless cheerleading slogan. It was horrifically depressing to meet so many incredibly intelligent, well educated people doing absolutely nothing with their brains. Start their own business, you say? Can't really do it. The tax laws make no provision for entrepreneurship. Again, you cannot look at EE with a Western brain.

Just curious if you know anything about her? I didn't. So I learned about her. She's not the airhead people think she is. A pp mentioned she speaks multiple language, and she's studied fashion at the college level. I'm also not so sure she's in an unhappy marriage. The way she approached her response to her husband was interesting.

Who has been rude?

No need to apologize for your opinion :) My church is casual, very casual. But I do dress up for the holidays, and I probably wouldn't wear the gloves. Of course, I couldn't afford "that" dress and would need to buy a knock-off, but it's beautiful!

I don't need any enlightenment. But thanks for the kind offer.

Ok. Just pointing out that these pictures were virtually everywhere.

And just want to add to my previous comments that I do think she seems to be a great Mom. Did anyone see the picture from when she and her son were walking in the parade and she went to hold his hand and he pulled it away? What mother of a son can't relate to that when a boy gets to be around a certain age? :sad1: I felt for her, as a Mom. A very caring Mom. She elected to stay home with her son most of the time while her husband traveled.

Got it, if you haven't been perfect in life so far, you're not worthy of such a position now.

Um for the record I said nothing about kids and nekkid pictures.LOL.

I just took offence at EMom's comment about Melanie being grateful for her long legs. I said it was a throwback for the women's movement.
Would you say that to your daughter? No idea why EMom is going on about teenagers and nekkid pictures. It has nothing to do with this discussion.

Melania does seem to be a good mother. So therefore she has much more valuable assets than her legs.

Hope you didn't get caught in the chain on that backpedal. Your multiple comments were quite clear.
