Let me enlighten you. We met COUNTLESS individuals with advanced degrees who could not get a job of any kind. Not even a menial job. There were no jobs to be had. They had stellar educations, excellent training......and no hope of employment. It was a fantastic day if a tourist paid them to be a driver or tour guide. It was better money than they would have made in their actual profession, and considering they weren't going to get jobs in their field anyway, they were grateful for whatever employment they could get. A Ph.D. may bring you pride in accomplishment, but if you can't earn a cent from it, it begins to lose some of its shine. It's well and good to say, "You should use your brain, work hard and get ahead that way," but if there are NO opportunities, that is an empty and meaningless cheerleading slogan. It was horrifically depressing to meet so many incredibly intelligent, well educated people doing absolutely nothing with their brains. Start their own business, you say? Can't really do it. The tax laws make no provision for entrepreneurship. Again, you cannot look at EE with a Western brain.
