Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen worth it? Bananas Foster!!??

Holy  That picture decided it for me! I will need a countdown ticker for that dessert :rotfl:

Thanks Susie and Abbie for the crawfish mashed potato opinions. I love shrimp and lobster, so I will have to give them a try. Between the bananas foster and the yummy potatoes, I will gain 10 pounds :lmao: It will be worth it though I am sure!

:rotfl2: countdown ticker for dessert!!! :rotfl2:

It was DELICIOUS!!!! :banana::banana:

I never felt bad eating anything at DL because I KNEW I"D BE WALKING THAT OFF.Last time we went to DL I lost 10 lbs.:rolleyes1

I must have missed something in my last visit. The wait staff was slow and the manager was rude. Our food was good but not excellent. We were there for lunch in June. Just wasn't impressed at all.

We have been to Jazz Kitchen three times for lunch and once for brunch. The second time we were there, we had disappointing food and slow wait staff. If that had been my first experience, I may have been unwilling to return. Because our first visit there was so much better with regards to food, we were willing to go back and test which experience was more typical. Our two meals since the off day have been excellent. Maybe you got a bad day, or maybe that restaurant just isn't your thing. Everybody has different tastes. There are several places that people rave about on these boards that I only found meh.

I think every place has off days. We have always had great experiences at Jazz Kitchen.

We've had Dino as our server a few times and he's really great.

Maybe give it another shot?

We really like the Jazz Kitchen. The shrimp and grits are my favorite, but I don't think we've ever had anything we haven't really liked. If you're there on a Sunday though, I highly recommend going for brunch. They have an awesome bloody mary bar, and the banana's foster french toast is beyond words.

We too, love RBJK!!

On one occassion for dinner, my father was commenting how much he liked their neckties and asked where he could get one. The waitress told us they were only available to employees. We had such an amazing meal and experience I decided that once I got home I would write an email to compliment how great it was. Thinking about how much my father admired the tie, I also asked if there was any way I could purchase one for him (was thinking Birthday present)....a couple days later I received a small package in the mail with a hand written note from the manager, and a tie. :)

That, to me, was them going above and beyond. I will never forget it.

Oh yeah...the bananas foster rocks btw. :thumbsup2

I have to agree that I think most every restaurant has their off days, or the menu and ambiance just aren't your thing. We have had hit or miss experiences at the Blue Bayou, but we enjoy the location. My only reason for not just trying RBJK is the prices. It's always nice to get opinions.

Susie-thanks for reminding me that I can eat what I want because I will walk it off!!! Bananas Foster here we come :cool1:

Momofthree-what a sweet story  That is the kind of business I don't mind supporting. I bet your Dad was so surprised and touched. Thanks for sharing!

Our meal was awesome there, remember it very fondly even though it was 3 years ago LOL

We can't wait to go back there, so worth the money!

We're trying Ralph Brennan's for the first time on our upcoming trip. Bananas Foster is my favorite dessert :cloud9: Can't wait for the tableside presentation!!!

We ate their for lunch last Sunday for the first time. Food was amazing! I had the seafood pot pie and I want some again now. Also enjoyed the music that was playing while we ate (a little loud, but we were seated right in front of the stage). I'd recommend it again for sure. And darn me for missing that dessert! If I hadda known I woulda definitely ordered that!

It was so funny reading your post, because DH and I had been looking at the menu, and he thought that the soup trio sounded good, and I wanted the beef medallions :rotfl::rotfl: I will have to try the Lobster Bisque!!! We were both wondering about the crawfish mashed potatoes??? I apologize for asking, but what does a crawfish taste like? The other potatoes sound yummy too. This thread has made me hungry!

Thanks again to everyone who replied :goodvibes It really does help to make decisions, and when a restaurant is this expensive, you want to make sure it's worth the money. What would I do without the DIS?

mmmmmm crawfish mashed potatoes.....mmmmmmm :) Love me some crawfish, definitely a combination of shrimp and lobster. :)

I never gain weight at DL, I walk too much....I don't necessarily lose any but if I don't gain after eating places like the Jazz Kitchen I figure it's good enough. LOL :) I love the ticker for the dessert, too funny. :)

We saw by the stage once, it was definitely too loud. Now we ask to be seated upstairs or away from the stage. :)

I am now only 6 days away from trying the Banana's Foster :cool1: I am the only person who types the word bananas and thinks of that cheer you always heard at high school football games:cheer2:??? Crazy I know, but now I can't stop saying "Go Bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!" I need a vacation :lmao:

And I will have to give the crawfish mashed pot. a try. I love lobster and shrimp, so had bad can they be?

Also, thanks for the tips on asking to not sit by the stage. I get headaches quite often, so I don't need that.

I keep looking at the pictures of the bananas foster :cheer2: being cooked, and it makes my Frosty look pathetic. Oh well!

You are all making me hungry. I just love Bananas Foster! DD and DH made me Bananas Foster Waffles for Mother's Day last year... yummy!

I'm thinking frozen bananas at DL on Halloween will do the trick... or should I say treat!!

Funny! My DH has made them for me, too, the last two years. Insanely good. I actually have the Ralph Brennan's bananas foster recipe, and make it once or twice a year. Very easy, impressive, and delicious (and that 151 rum would cost you way less than $17). However, we did enjoy our meal at Brennan's a few year's back. A bit overpriced, but everything is in DL, right? The piano player was great.
