Rain in May?

I was there for monsoon week last May and it was the worst trip ever! We had splurged for WL courtyard room and were so excited but then we couldn't even sit on the balcony because you'd get soaked! I don't even mind the rain so much, but I need the sun and there was no sun to be had that week! I look back and laugh about it now, kinda...well...not really...:guilty:

We were also there for the ark building project. I've lived in FL for 20 years and I can't remember a May it rained like that. We were there for 9 days and the last day we added on because it was predicted to be dry. All the other days it was like the skies opened up and got stuck. Our longest vacation we ever took and one of our worst due to the rain. A little rain is fine but I've never seen FW so flooded.

Hey, surviving May 2009 is like a battle scar we can be proud of. Notice how we alll like to tell war stories about that month? We should get buttons made up or something... "I survived the May 2009 Deluge" :lmao:

We also survived our May 2009 trip, and we had a blast! We just put on our ponchos and Crocs and went on with our day. (We don't have kids, so it was easy for us.) The driving rains kept a lot of people out of the parks, so we hardly ran into any lines at all. We're going back again at the end of May!

I'm also a monsoon survivor. It was really, really draining, but I still did almost everything I normally do. The worst was wading in ankle deep water at the bottom of the hill coming out of MK one afternoon. :scared1:

We went May 09 and it rained SO MUCH while we were there. Monsoon survivor here! It was horrible!

Yep, record rain for Orlando the second half of May 2009:

May 17: 0.56"
May 18: 0.6"
May 19: 3.85"
May 20: 2.11"
May 21: 0.24"
May 22: 3.21"
May 23: 0.01"
May 24: 0.95"
May 25: 0.49"
May 26: 0.84"
May 27: 0.24"
May 28: 0.1"
May 29: 0.29"
May 30-31: No rain!

First half of May had rain on only two days: May 11 and 12.

So you never know quite what you'll get, but I would guess that odds are that May 2010 won't have a monsoon repeat.

Yes, we were there May 18-29. Of course it didn't rain the next day. :rotfl:

As everyone else has said, that was pretty freakish weather. DH and I grew up in FL and would never have expected that. We do plan to go again in May, despite our last experience. We went the same time in 2008 and had absolutely perfect weather.

Grumpy D's picturea are about what we remember our whole trip looking like.

Here's our last night. We waited about 2 hours while Wishes was delayed and eventually cancelled. DH and the kids thought it was the best night of the trip though. I think by that point we didn't mind getting soaked. :upsidedow
