What should I expect in terms of rain in late May/early June? Have the afternoon showers typically started by then or is it a little more dry?

Thanks!

May can still be dry,but hot and once you get into June is when the daily rain usually begins. Some years can be wetter than others but I know one year I think we got rain just about everyday in June.

We went two years ago at the end of May and it barely rained at all. Our friends went last year late may and it rained/POURED every single day they were there - it was miserable. When you look at anrain chart for each month May is in the middle as far as average rain fall.

I've been there three times in late May. Twice it either didn't rain at all or it only rained once or twice for a short time. Last year, I was there for "monsoon week." I think the sun was about eight hours total for the entire week.

Yep, record rain for Orlando the second half of May 2009:

May 17: 0.56"
May 18: 0.6"
May 19: 3.85"
May 20: 2.11"
May 21: 0.24"
May 22: 3.21"
May 23: 0.01"
May 24: 0.95"
May 25: 0.49"
May 26: 0.84"
May 27: 0.24"
May 28: 0.1"
May 29: 0.29"
May 30-31: No rain!

First half of May had rain on only two days: May 11 and 12.

So you never know quite what you'll get, but I would guess that odds are that May 2010 won't have a monsoon repeat.

I arrived the Saturday before Memorial Day 2009 for a week long stay. Got soaked multiple times Every. Single. Day.

2008 - almost none. 2009 crazy torrential rain. Best you can do is go by the averages and hope for the best.

Acccording to weather person Doolittle,

The rain in May
Stays mainly late day.

I'm probably cursing us for our trip this year, but, we normally go late may/early June and we've experienced very little rain. It seems like the afternoon thunderstorms haven't started yet.

We were there last May, beginning Memorial Day and leaving on June 1st. It poured rain five days out of seven, most days beginning early to mid-afternoon and also at night a couple of times.

Yeah, the deluge last May was freakish. El Nino related, perhaps. Over 2 feet of rain up near Daytona and over 18" up here just north of Orlando.

I'd plan for warm, dry days, though, but keep some umbrellas packed just in case.

We were there last May and it rained as hard, heavy and long as I've ever seen it rain. You would have thought it was a hurricane with the rain, wind and storms. One time we were at Epcot standing under a shelter and we were still getting soaked because the rain was coming in sideways. By mid-week we were ready to come home. It was a totally miserable trip.

Well we were there last year May 16th throught 23rd. On the 17th, we got up and had a wonderful day in the parks untill 8PM and it did not stop raining until well after we left. We did spend that tuesday at MK and toughed out the light rain, and that Thursday we got a break from the rain until around 7 pm. On our last night it stopped raining for a few hours for us to enjoy MK once again. The rest of the time it was like a monsoon. When I say it was pouring, it was pouring! Being said, it was a freak rain storm that brought like 4 feet of rain to central FL. It was the most rain besides a hurricane in history.

I beleive normally, durring may/june it rains every day, but it is raining durring sunshine, and only last a half hour or so.

some pictures from may 19 - 25 2009 and remember even a rainy day at Disney is better than a Sunny day anywhere else

I think the best answer to give you is - it could rain a lot, it could rain a little, it could not rain at all. It's the weather and it doesn't follow any set schedule from year to year.

Prepare for rain and if it doesn't happen, it's a bonus.

I feel for you guys that were there doing "monsoon week" last year - it sounded awful. How frusterating to pay a fortune for your vacation - look forward to it - and then feel trapped by never ending rain. Just doesn't feel "fair"

:rotfl: This is always my reaction to this question - we were there for the whole of "monsoon week" last May - the first trip for dh and ds, the first for me in over 20 years. And guess what ? We still had a blast, and are going back the same week this year - it couldn't happen two years in a row....could it ?? :):)

Well, looks like last year was more of a fluke and even if it rains this year, I'll just have to work my way around it! Thanks for the help guys! :goodvibes

Yeah, I honestly did get tired of the constant rain last May. We're one of those families that just put on a poncho and keep going, but when the rain is that hard and that long it just wears you down a bit. We did manage to squeeze in a whole boatload of fun between the raindrops though. It wasn't our "golly gee whiz greatest trip ever", but it certainly was no wasted trip. On a related note, I'm just big enough of a geek to have been impressed by seeing Disney's water rentention ponds in full action that week.

We are blessed to be in position to have made multiple trips. I just try to be thankful and deal with whatever is beyond my control (ie weather) in the most peaceful way I can. Helps out my vacations a bunch.
