Raglan Road Update

I'm living in Dublin, Ireland at the moment and the real Raglan Road is a street less than 5 minutes from my house. I walked past it just last week for the first time.

Looking forward to having a drink in the WDW version :cool1:

Hey PatriciaH and KCMiller, and others...regarding bands playing there at RR, RR is already booked for the first 3 months the last I knew. Phones have been ringing off the hook with Irish bands wanting to play there from all over the world (including Ireland). Since I don't have any control over who plays and if anyone wants to see a certain band play there, I'd just suggest contacting mgmt or the owners themselves since they make the decisions. However, if there comes a time when RR is hurting for bands to play, I will refer mgmt to all of your ideas. I think for now though, they're quite set.

A friend of mine and I will be there Nov. 10th! :wave2:

Sounds great Poohbear! Hopefully, I'm working that night. Ask for Don (that's me...the only Don there) and I'll be sure to pour an extra frothy Guinness for you guys, or whatever you like. Just do me one favour...please don't wear a University of Miami T-shirt (if you're a fan or alum). As a diehard FSU alum, I'm not fond of Green and Orange together. Just kidding, kind of. :)

Thanks Jack for the updates and the good news on the Smithwicks. :cloud9:

Thanks Don for all your help. We will be there in February and I'm dumping the Fish as our last night dinner and going here instead. I loved Ireland when I went (friendliest people on Planet Earth, Jamacia is now Number 2) and can't wait to check this out.

No problem, my pleasure. I have two juicy tidbits for you guys today. I know the menu and I know the opening date. The menu was described in detail to us today, along with photos of each dish, by the executive chef himself, Kevin Dundon, who is a very accomplished Irish chef...supposedly the best in Ireland. He cooks for the stars, heads of state, etc. He cooked for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie 3 weeks ago in Ireland at Kevin's estate (Dunbrody House), for what it's worth. I think I heard he's going to be on Good Morning America sometime very soon upcoming too (or some show like that). Anyway, the menu is brilliant and delectable to say the least, yet, too lengthy to even attempt to post here. You wouldn't believe the lengths these guys have gone thru to ensure the utmost quality of all ingredients. Seriously, you wouldn't believe me if I told you.

Opening date, as of today 26/9/05, the opening to the public is targeted for 10/10/05. If they can do it sooner it will happen, but if so, it'd only be sooner by 1-2 days. Early next week is all of our state inspections, this is our last major step in the process of opening. If it changes, which is certainly possible of course, don't get mad at me...I'm merely relaying the info I'm being given.

By the way, if you're curious about our chef, then Google Kevin Dundon and/or the Dunbrody House on the Internet for more info on him. He's amazing, and rather modest too.

***Sorry about all of the multiple posts from me today, but I had several posts to reply to and I don't know how to multi-reply all in one post.

Cheers everyone! Or slainte if you're Irish or Irish-spirited! :drinking1

WOO HOO!
DH and I get off the plane on the 14th and we'll hope for the best that RR is open.

Thanks Don!

Jack any further menu details? DW is strictly meat and potatoes girl. She likes steaks, prime rib, etc. I'll try just about anything. Is it all upscale stuff, or are there some pub grub choices too?

You are a great resource here on the Dis. Thanks for all the info thus far. :)

Yeah, I know the whole menu, but it's quite lengthy to recite here, maybe I'll post it this weekend if I get some time between college football games. :teeth:

To answer your second question Micca, that's a very good question and one that I've wondered about myself too, until today. I've bartended and managed a British pub in London for 3 years and I thought that RR would have the typical kind of pub grub as you say, but no, not at all. The closest thing on the RR menu to true pub food is Fish & Chips (cod being freshly caught from the ocean to your plate in 24-48 hours, never frozen) and something that will be called a "Fada Burger" (Sirloin beef burger with tomato, onions, chutney, and Wexford Cheddar and chips <fries>). There are soups and salads too of course that would not be uncommon to some pubs in the UK or Ireland too. Micca, if your wife likes meat and potatoes, she will be very pleased I'd bet. Potatoes is a common staple on the RR menu and so are several kinds of meat (beef, lamb, pork, mussels/scallops, salmon, pate, sausages, chicken, prawns, etc.). Several meat products as you can see. If she likes steaks, then there's a dish called "Hunt's Punt." It's an open-flamed ribeye with an Irish Whiskey marmalade. There's also a salad called "Paddy K's." It's a seared-beef salad with horseradish and carmalized onions. Also, one of our chefs is a vegetarian and will prepare whatever dish whomever likes according to reasonable vegetarian standards. Also, if requested, you may speak with the chef(s) and certainly the servers too about the specifics of your meal or how it's prepared. As you can see, menu-wise this is quite unlike any pub I've EVER been in, but I guess it's an Irish pub with an "upscale" twist.

Thanks for your compliments Micca. I know many people here are dying to know some details of RR, so I'm just relaying the info that I'm being told. :)

Adding my thanks to Jack too!! :cheer2: I hope all goes well, and smoothly with the inspections - we're heading to wdw in a week, and I may never get to Ireland (and it is a dream of ours!!)

Your posts are adding to the excitemnt and frenzy, I'm sure just the work on the place is getting enough buzz - thanks for taking the time and posting!!

Sorry, I don't know that yet. But, when I do, I'll post it. :)

Thanks everyone for your compliments and gratitude. I appreciate it. I'm happy to do this for everyone. This is the very main reason that I signed up with this board. I was looking over the several posts on this board and I was seeing all sorts of questions and misinformation about RR, so I decided to flash as much clarity onto the issue of it opening and others things that I could. I certainly and obviously don't know everything, but the things that I do know, I try and will post for you all. :shamrock:

Jack--you're my new hero!
I will be at WDW in October (3-6th) and again in December (30th-6th) so I am REALLY excited about RR. I lived in Ireland for some time during college (Spiddal--near Galway) spent a fair amount of time in Dublin and throughout Ireland. This is like a dream come true! You'll have to post your picture in the RR outfit for all of us!

Wow, just found this link and thrilled to hear the updated information. Thanks Jack. Also just figured out that October 10th is the night we were planning on going to Pleasure Island. This may work out just perfect. :bounce:

You're a sweetheart! Thanks. :goodvibes

So, you'll be here real soon then, huh? You're gonna miss RR only by a few days in October, but you'll be back in December, so that's cool.

I've been to Ireland a few times, but never to Galway or Spiddal. Beautiful country it is!

I'll do that...(post a photo of me in my outfit), as soon as I get a photo somehow.

Not a problem Don, I HATE College and Professional Football. :teeth: I hate green and orange too, so we will all get along FINE! ;) :wave2:

I'm so excited by the news of the opening date. I have been following the progress of Raglan Roads for months and I am looking forward to visiting. Our plans, at this point, call for us to be at PI on the night of 10/17. It looks like you will be open!!!!
Will we be able to stop in just for a beer or two, or do you have to be planning a meal?
Thanks Jack for all of your information. I appreciate it a lot.
