Racist,ignorant, or misunderstood? O'Reilly remarks

I didn't read the whole thread. I'm also not a fan or O'Reilly and I'm not racist in any way.

What I'm curious about is, did anyone listen to the WHOLE interview? I heard the whole thing yesterday, along with his reponse to the media, and it sounds like he was misunderstood. His argument was that racism is stupid and happens because of fear. His agument about the blacks 'behaving' in a restaurant was along the lines of a sarcastic, 'hey, guess what? They act like every other race acts in restaurants, get over it.' I can see how SEGMENTS of the interview could be taken out of context if you didn't hear the WHOLE thing. Again, I'm not a fan of his, nor do I care what color/race/religion anyone is.

yes that is what I got out of it....it is easy to read to much into statements sometimes and miss the point. It was like a sarcastic statement saying okay DUHHHHH.

We all interprete things differently and that is what makes for a good debate.

Why no conservative Media Matters. In my Opnion, Media Matters and Move On provide suffcient Ammo. What would be the creditability of such site, it would be the same as media matters. After Five years in Business they (Media Matters) gets one with legs and it is quickly debunked. I Still can't believe how some will "Paint with a Broad Brush" Look at the last Statement here. " .... it really does not say much for a lot of folks in this country. Wow Don't agree with Someone over a Misunderstood Broadcast = Racist. Freedom of Speach, as long as you don't disagree or discent. Talk about labeling.

what he meant was that DUHHH, everybody knows that blacks can be civilized in a restaurant??? Seems like an odd reading to me. I've always heard the phrase "I couldn't get over the fact" to describe something the speaker felt was surprising. I've never heard it used to describe something everybody knows.

Seems kinda odd that O'Reilly felt the need to tell his listeners something everybody knows...

I didn’t see any comments when someone in the Jena thread said “In what world does a kid being treated and released from the hospital = almost killing the kid? The white world?” What about the recent case where a white boy was attacked and beaten by 7 black boys in Virginia for being white? If any of these cases had been reversed, we would have seen nonstop posts of “ ", " " and " ".

In your opinion...in my opinion the fact that there is no organization out there debunking liberal talk radio and TV that means that there isn't enough to debunk to make it worth anyone's time. In my opinion, Rush, Sean and Bill do a fine enough job on their own providing ammo, just as in your opinion Media Matters and MoveOn.org provide enough ammo on their own. In my opinion you still are missing the difference between being biased in the choice of topic and biased in the information presented.

That's what great about this country, we can all have our own opinions. However, on the DIS if you're going to post an opinion that others deem racist, ignorant or otherwise objectionable, you're going to get called on it. Freedom of Speech works both ways....

I have MANY questions about that story. The first of which is why was there a video camera conveniently at the ready and why did it go online in such a hurry? It didn't look very random to me. Second, is if it was a racially motivated attack, why hasn't it made front page in any media outlet or blog? I would think Fox or other Conservative news outlets would certainly want to follow up on it. I would need more info before I could comment on it.

I do. I never did hear a follow up on the story. I still wonder though, if the attack wasn't racially motivated, why was the boy attacked? The follow up didn't really explain anything.

Al Franken wasn't cancelled. He left Air America Radio because he's running for the Democratic nomination for Senator in Minnesota.

Btw, how many more times does someone have to explain to you that Media Matters is biased solely on which items they choose to feature. Everyone of those items has a link to where you can see/hear for yourself.

Al Franken wasn't cancelled. He left Air America Radio because he's running for the Democratic nomination for Senator in Minnesota.
