Racing to Lose a Toenail ~ My Half-Marathon Weekend *Homeward Bound 3/16 p.25

Poor Baxter!
It reminds me of the Curious George book where George eats a puzzle piece! :lmao:

Amanda

Glad to hear Baxter is recovering well. Poor puppy!

Wow....look at all those people on Main Street! Those are the crowds we go out of our way to avoid! ;)

:yay: I finally get to hear about your race! Sorry about the humidity. That really can slow you down. I'm glad you finally got that long sleeve shirt off. Just thinking about it was making me hot:laughing: The first half is always kind of a learning experience I think. You never quite know how it is going to go, but you did it and that is the thing that really matters. I hope this upcoming race moment isn't too sad.

:rotfl: It really was inevitable that it would happen. He eats everything!!

If you look at the pictures, you can see they had part of the street roped off for spectators. So there was a narrow path for us to run down. I honestly don't remember it being that crowded! I think they moved at a decent speed.

I'm hot just remembering what it was like! :rotfl: I'm afraid it is a very sad moment. :guilty:

I had forgotten you weren't able to train outside during the Summer months. I bet it was a huge difference. But you made it.

And good to hear Baxter is doing so well. It is amazing how quickly they recover. Bubblegum never even had pain killers after her surgery and she had 16 stitches on the outside and I don't know how many on the inside. I'd have pain killers.

Worried about your next update.:sad2:

Hey, glad to read that Baxter is on the mend. I can't believe we got through our dog's chewing stage without a similar operation being required.

I'll bet that run down Main Street is amazing! You do look rather hot in that photo in front of the castle.

Sorry to hear that the first half of your race was a little rough. That's crazy that it is so humid in January! I'm hoping the rest of the race was better. Even though there was a sad part.

Glad the dog is ok!

I'm sorry that the race did not go as you had imagined. At least you know what the problem is now and the next time you attempt it you will get an awesome time!

Hi Carissa,

Sorry to hear about baxter. Glad he's doing better. Also sorry the race was starting off to be painful for you. What were the temps during your race? I too am worried because the last few months I have been running in 20-30 degree weather too. I think the humidity will slow me down too. I cant wait to hear more about your race.

that has to be an amazing feeling after all that training to run down main street.:thumbsup2

Getting caught up!!

I was pretty sure which button would turn it off, but I was afraid I would hit the wrong button and have it make some crazy beeping noise and wake Liz up.

It's nice to take a small pocket flashlight for just such occasions.

It was kind of funny to hear my name over the speakers over and over again.

This used to happen to me a lot back in school....@@

Great updates Carissa!!!

Glad Baxter is doing better. :goodvibes

I wish you were feeling better about your race so early on! I can totally see the humidity bringing you down-same thing happened to me in my first 5K in Kentucky. It really does make a huge difference!

I can imagine that the run down Main Street must have been just amazing!! WOW!!

That title of your next installment really has me worried!

Sorry you had a rough time during the race and probably best you did slow down rather than hurt yourself. I'm impressed with you regardless of how you thought you did :goodvibes

What was the sad moment?

Sorry your race wasn't going to plan... I thought people just wore 'throw away' clothes so they could just toss em if they don't need them. :confused3

:goodvibes Car ~ I think it is amazing that you followed through with your goal to sucessfully complete the half marathon and the training and energy that went into getting there, homeschooling your 3 boys, having your Navy DH away a lot of the time and the groin issues. You did it! :cheer2:

HEY!!!
Watch that creative Quoting you pirate: !!

I can't believe she didn't have any painkillers! :scared1: I think it's helped keep him calm, which is good. Dogs are amazing though in how quickly they bounce back from stuff. The incision is looking pretty good already.

It was and I was! ;)

Thanks. It was disappointing, but I knew it might happen.

I do hope I get to run a half in a better time one day. Just not sure when/if I'll get there.

I think it was in the mid to high 50s at the start of the race and in the 60s by the end.

that has to be an amazing feeling after all that training to run down main street.:thumbsup2

It is pretty cool. But, I also was preoccupied with getting to that bathroom so I could take my shirt off!

It's nice to take a small pocket flashlight for just such occasions.

I'll have to keep that in mind. :thumbsup2

I don't know why I didn't think about the humidity ahead of time. You'd think living by the ocean, we'd have humidity here too. But, this winter has been so cold and dry.

Sorry you had a rough time during the race and probably best you did slow down rather than hurt yourself. I'm impressed with you regardless of how you thought you did :goodvibes

What was the sad moment?

Thanks Heidi :goodvibes You'll have to wait for the next installment!

Sorry your race wasn't going to plan... I thought people just wore 'throw away' clothes so they could just toss em if they don't need them. :confused3

Many people do. But, I didn't get around to buying throw away clothes and didn't want to lose what I had. Tying stuff around my waist worked just fine. :thumbsup2

Thanks Nat

I'm sorry you were having so much pain during the race. :grouphug:

Amanda

It was something I was fully expecting. Now, the humidity, on the other hand, took me by surprise.

Hi there! Just checking in!

That humidity will get you every time! It's like running through soup!

Sorry the heat was bothering you and your soreness was flaring up. :( Love that picture running down Main Street though -- so neat!
