Racing to Lose a Toenail ~ My Half-Marathon Weekend *Homeward Bound 3/16 p.25

It's interesting to read all about this and see the pictures of a Disney experience that I am 99.9% sure I will never have. I will be happy to go one of these days and be a cheerleader, though. :cheer2: We have cheered friends on in the Music City Marathon before, and that was exciting enough. Cheering in Disney World would be too much fun!

Cool pictures from the Expo, but you aren't kidding about the crowds around the merchandise! I don't know if I could stick it out for very long either!

Woo hoo for moving up a couple of corrals! Awesome! :woohoo:

Pin??? Did someone say PIN???? :lmao:

Catching up over here.....

Congrats on the ToT ride and the Corral upgrade.

I love how Disney never misses a Merchandise opportunity.

I'll have some pictures of some pins later. :thumbsup2

Oh I totally misunderstood. If you want to post those pictures that is fine too. I'm looking so speedy!:lmao:

You looked great! :goodvibes

Carissa. I am loving the report and seeing your pics have been getting me even more excited to get there in Feb.

That is so awesome that you got to see John bingham (sorry if I mispelled his name). I have been following his run/walk plan and I really like it. I am still leary on only going up to 10 miles prior to the race but Im trusting that he knows what he is talking about.

I cant wait to read more!!!!!!!!!!!

The longest I did before the half was 10 miles and I was fine. :thumbsup2

It was SO much fun! I'll talk about that more in the TR. :cool1:

At least it kept me from spending money! :rotfl:

All caught up Carissa!!! :dance3:

Be.Still.My.Heart, Carissa!! I am so proud of you for trying TOT. It just scares the crap out of me. I will stand at that attraction and watch it and watch it over and over again and all that screaming and the doors opening and closing ... no.way. :guilty:
My family LOVES TOT and I always will follow them over to the ride and then while waiting for them, I will walk all around the attraction and inside the gift shop. I then observe everyone coming off TOT and they are all just beyond THRILLED. Nope, doubt I will ever come to ride it. :guilty:

A celebrity ... hmm ...

Kar ~ TOT is one smooth ride ...... ok so I closed my eyes for the first drop  :scared1: And like you like to say "be still my heart", I thought my heart was going to be still ........ stop and not restart but I loved TOT.
Actually I am not sure if I am more proud of our girl for going on TOT or doing the 1/2...... ok... OK.... the 1/2 of course :rolleyes1

Car ~ who is the celeb? Male? Female? Did they win an oscar?:3dglasses

I'm not sure which one *I'm* more proud of! ;)

If you were all caught up, my dear, you'd know the answers to your questions. :rolleyes1

:headache: I guess you caught me skimming :rotfl:
I did look at all the pictures :rolleyes1
You know I had to...... Move it! Move it! :dance3:
Ok.. I'm going back to read.... geesh...:tiptoe:

I just wanted to stop in and say wow! I started reading this TR and then saw you had a PTR and it was so inspiring! I am much like you! I randomly decided to run the princess 1/2 @ Disney in 2012 without running one step and I hate running. But I got the C25K and I have started running and it feels good! Well not, when I'm actually running, but it feels good after I've run to say I've run! I just want to thank you for documenting all of this. This has been exactly what I needed to see, yes it is possible! Oh, and my hubby is in the Navy too! :)
Can't wait to see what happens next!
Erica

Congrats on conquering your ToT fear! Love that ride! :thumbsup2

Any word on the house yet? Hoping things work out for you. :)

Skimmer! :snooty: If you'd looked at the pictures your questions would have been answered too. Well, sort of. Not that they were very good pictures and not that you'd recognize him. :rotfl:

:welcome: Erica! I love to hear about others who are challenging themselves! :cool1: It is definitely possible. :thumbsup2 And yay for Navy wives! :goodvibes

No!!! And it's driving me bonkers!!! We put the initial bid in last Wednesday. We just want to know either way. I've been looking at some other houses just so we can jump back into it if our offer isn't accepted.

Great update!

Isn't the WWoS really nice? We went to a Spring Training game there last March... I wish we had more time to explore the complex though.

Glad you were able to get your business done there quickly! :goodvibes

Love the look of those metals! Makes me want to goto a Disney Marathon... kinda. :rolleyes1

I've been dying to pester you and ask! I'm sorry you still haven't heard anything yet! ARGH What's taking them so long?!

I'm still confused on why you'd want a certain corral, or how the possibility of getting swept works. But I'm NOT confused about how lovely those medals are! someday... someday.

Hmmm... behind doesn't sound promising! Will there be MORE running in this trip than you anticipated??

A few trips back I had wanted to catch a spring training game there with my dad, but we just couldn't fit it in.

"Go to" a marathon or "run in" a marathon?? :rolleyes1

I've been dying to pester you and ask! I'm sorry you still haven't heard anything yet! ARGH What's taking them so long?!

Trust me - if we'd heard anything, I would have posted on Facebook! Technically, the new bids had to be in by 10:00 a.m. Monday morning so they've had since then to look at the offers. Can't imagine it's that difficult to figure out which one is best!

The last couple of corrals are mostly walkers. So, if you're a runner, you'd be doing a lot of zig zagging trying to get around everyone. The closer to the front you are, the less of that stuff you have to do. You are supposed to maintain a 16 minute mile pace for the half (which comes out to 3 1/2 hours to complete the half). However, it is possible to take longer than that and still not get swept if you start in a corral closer to the front. They don't start the sweeping time until the last person crosses the finish line. That person must maintain a 16 minute mile. Each corral starts a few minutes after the previous. Does that help?

Hmmm... behind doesn't sound promising! Will there be MORE running in this trip than you anticipated??

It sure felt like it!

do you get a medal like that at every marathon, those are really cool

:thumbsup2

I would say all half-marathons and marathons give out medals. There are many shorter races that do as well. I have one from a 10k I did in October. My oldest and I are doing a 1.4 mile fun run next month and they even hand out medals for that! :rotfl:

I'm sure Disney gives out a medal for every race it puts on.

Great pics of the Expo. I was totally amazed by the whole Expo thing. I guess I hadn't really expected WWoS to be so huge and so incredible!

Amanda

Loving your TR and all your photos! My good friend wants that Donald medal so we are hoping to do the 1/2 next January. Then if that goes well she wants to do the DL 1/2 for the Coast to Coast medal too. We both need some motivation to get more active so we're hoping Disney will work for us. We've been to Disney together twice so we know we travel well together-once at Pop.

Can I ask another question about corrals? I get that if you have proof of a better time you can be moved up but what qualifies-does it have to be a 10K or other 1/2 or would a 5K work too?

Congrats on ToT! I used to be such a ride whimp but my oldest DD is a thrill seaker. She is soooooo shy that I had to encourage that side of her and DH wasn't going to ride those rides with her. I now really enjoy a few of them but ToT still isn't my favorite. The ride itself really isn't that bad but the anticipation still gets me.

:wizard:Good luck with your house purchase!

Off to go read your training journal.

I wasn't expecting it to be so pretty! :goodvibes Except for the field, it just didn't have that sporty feel to it.

:welcome: and thanks! Good for you for challenging yourself! :thumbsup2 I'm sure someone else can answer your question for sure, but I do believe it needs to be at least a 10k for proof of time. Also, I think you can put your estimated time of finish up to 2:45 without needing to show proof of time.
