Race through New York

So if this had EP you would bypass all the other rooms?

That would be my guess, that would be the easiest way due to all the tickets they hand out for each color. They could hold back one row just for EP so that line would enter, say the last row of the pre-load room, and when full they get the next show. Holding back one row means they hold back that many tickets from regular line so seats work out.

I honestly don't understand how this could have been confused with Soarin'. The seats are like Shrek!

I think someone said "flying theater" and people instantly thought "Soarin". If you actually look around during the ride, you will see that the whole seated section of the theater is indeed lifted several feet off the ground and is moving around. So technically, it is just what it was described as. The problem was that the perception versus the decription did not match up. The ride tech is pretty much on par with Minions, just done with a single much larger ride vehicle. The closest thing Disney has in essence to this is Star Tours, not Soarin.

Pretty sure it is because it was alluded to that it was like the ride down the road that takes you around the world but only through NY.

I was told that you can use the app to chose your time, and the app gives you as many as 8 different return times to chose from. After using the app to pick our first time, we went to the machines and got a second one! The machine only gave us two times to choose from.

Can you provide more color in the app experience. Does it link with your tickets or is there a code provided? Does it use the location service to determine that you are in the park to request? Many thanks in advance for the intel!

You don't need to link tickets to the app. You just need to be IN the park. You need to have the locations services open so the app knows that you are in the park. If it doesn't work with your phone cellular service, just switch over to the Universal wifi service in addition to the location service turned on.

My cousins were at US yesterday (3-15-17) and rode RTNY twice. A blogger on the bus told them how to find out how to look for openings. His site is Travis Coaster on youtube. I have not been to the site just relaying info. My cousin's wife, who is in her early 40s, said it was her favorite ride!

For those who have booked a return time, either through the app or at the machine, how long have your waits been when you've returned at your time?

YesterdY there were not many people inside at all so our color was the next one called. Today there were many more people so they called two other colors before ours. Honestly I enjoyed the wait. The singers are fantastic, I could watch them a few times.

Is the return time the only option or is there stand by as well? I guess I'm confused as to how it works. Do you book a return time and then come back at that time and then wait to get on? Or is the waiting for those who go stand by?

There was not a stand by that I saw. You had to book a time on the app or at the kiosk. When you return you can do the pre show stuff while you wait for your color to be called.

It becomes standby after 2:00 I believe. You can no longer book a virtual return time either on the app or kiosk. We went by around 7:30 pm and the standby line was about 90 min!!!!

When I have gotten a return time I had to wait about 80 min until my return time was valid. The first day we did it I only had to wait 20 min. So it really varies. As I said before the kiosk gives you two choices but the app gives about 8, first thing in the morning. Today the ride went down and we never got to ride it. But we enjoyed the preshow and met Hashtag the Panda too!

Update and review,
Had a chance to ride this yesterday with the Family, we did not have to book a time to ride and walked up with EP, although they took our Express Pass and scanned it there was no difference in line vs what could have been stand by.. Wait was about 25 minutes total and not very crowded. We received our Blue pass (No Direction on what they were for) then walk right past the history section and upstairs to the waiting area. I have go to say I like this approach much better than a "line" Queue. The waiting area was nice with seats with USB ports and vidoe games for the kids to play, along with the stage and live acts. There was not much direction as to what you should do once you get upstairs so people congregated around the entrance, I hope they have better directions in the future.

They were loading Orange when we got there then after a few minutes one of the attendants started to explain what was going and how the colors indicated when you would go in the ride section. quick note the Lights in the waiting area change to match the color that is loading. We don't watch late night TV so there are several things both in the waiting area and on the ride that are specific to the TV show and running gags that were lost on me. like in the waiting area one of the acts was Hashtag which apparently was a big deal and I had no Idea who or what it was.

Once our color was called we moved to the Queue is is just like Minions several lines of people and a few TV's that have an intro. I liked this quite a lot, very funny and made me want to start watching the tonight show. although I am not sure why they chose the one large screen and then three smaller ones along the side of the large screen out of place and forces "cool" factor. moving into the ride is again just like Minions but instead of several 4 seat sections there is one large section, each seat has armrests and seat belts which reduce the size if the actual seat to a smaller than comfortable level along with the reduced leg room it felt cramped to me at 6'3" and 240lbs, any larger would be very uncomfortable. There were some issues with checking seat belts and seat belts being too tight or not clicked which took some time to get strait befor the ride could start but that will work out over time. The ride itself is Meh. I am already tired of Motion Sim rids and not a huge fan of them anyway. but as my wife says this is the future of theme park rides. I some times get motion sickness from rides like Soaring and StarTours, but do well on rides like Minions, and this ride was more like Minions but didn't feel like as much movement.. the script is silly and forced all the way through, like going to the moon and the giant panda (who is hashtag BTW). the 3D Effects are good but again forced. all in all I like the new way to queue for for the ride but disliked the ride.. As motion sim is the future I hope they move more towards, Spiderman, Transformers, Gringotts type rides and less mass seating movement rides like this. Ill ride it again for a break from the ordinary queues.

I rode it today and can relay my experience as much like yours. We got a virtual return ticket for about an hour later and had Purple passes instead of Orange. We saw several colors...Red, Purple, Blue, Orange and Yellow. We waited about 30 minutes from the time we made it to the Studio area but the time went quickly with all the stuff to keep you entertained.

I enjoyed the ride but it needs some punching up to make it really good. The ride was really smooth I thought but is much like the other sims in the parks. I'll ride it again once some time has passed but all in all I thought it was a lot of fun.

Got to ride yesterday and loved it. I was nervous by some saying they liked the pre-ride stuff first because to me that was underwhelming. The ride seats seem pretty small so definitely try the outside seats before waiting. I didn't see any stationary seating kindof like Star Wars at HS. We had tried to get return tickets multiple days from the kiosks but none of the times worked. Yesterday we were at the condo and playing around with the app and found that we could reserve a spot in line for later that night. We were wanting to go after the 6 pm animal show and got a 6:30 to 7 pm slot. We completely walked right through the first room and only had to wait maybe 15 minutes in the second room. Since they are controlling the crowds it's hard to tell how any of this will work when it's actually open. I will definitely ride again if we can get in again this week. I'm also glad we will not be back until May so I can hear about wait times from when the ride is open to public. Especially express wait times.

so you were actually able to reserve a spot to ride this yesterday through the Universal app on your phone?
