Oh, Colleen! I wish I'd have known about your Hickory race -- I might have joined you! Can't wait to hear about your race and see the medal. Maybe I'll put it on my list for next year. Love those "local" (NC) races.
Hi
Wendy,

yes, this is the second year we have had the race. It drew about 300 people this year and raised about $10,000 for a burn unit and local charities.
The weather was fine for me because it was overcast, it was still warm at start about 70 degrees and about 80% humidity, but like
Dave said, I was used to that after the Disney marathon.

DH found the weather tougher, but he runs a lot harder than I do.
The course was very hilly with Hickory being in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. I was hoping to be under 2:10, but finished in
2:13:09, which I am very happy with because it is a half-marathon PR for me.

I think this is half marathon #7 for me and my fastest was in Victoria, Canada in perfect conditions and my time was 2:13:45. So I am very happy with my time on a very challenging course.
Something new I am experiencing today is a sore achilles. It must have been climbing all those hills, because my right achilles is pretty sore and tight this morning. I didn't have time for a proper cool down, stretches or ice bath because I had to play chauffeur (sp) for my kids activities for the rest of the day. I slept well last night though.
DH had a nice effort too, considering his training was nonexistent, I think his longest run in the last month was 8 miles and he had a 2 week taper running one 3 mile in China. I think he said he ran the course in 1:47.
Interesting fact, my garmin said I ran 13.47 miles in 2:13:09 which under a 10 min/mile pace.
All and all a good day!
