:jumping1: GO! WISH Team GO! :jumping1:

Good luck to everyone this weekend. If you see a guy running in a pink tutu, gold tiara, and gold wand, that's probably me. :rotfl:

Good luck everyone!! I will be thinking about you all as I run my LR tomorrow and WISHing I was there!!

Hey all,

Just back from DL and since DH was with me, there were a few differences than a typical Disney race trip. . I didn't get to meet and greet the WISHers on Friday at the meet--which was too bad, since I was looking forward to that. Also, we pretty much cleared right out after the race finished since DH met me at the finish line.

But I did meet several WISHers. As usual, the first person I saw (actually, who saw me) was Tracy (disnyfan21). This has happened the last three times I think! Also saw Laurie (hockeygirl) and Scott & Lynn. Saw Jeff (mkymsehi) and Marcia (mooshu) at the expo. Before the race saw Chris (goofyinohio), and I'm drawing a blank on who else! During the race I saw Jen's (jbucci) DH Robert. That was probably it.

The race itself was fun. The weather was great 60ish?, overcast. Felt comfortable waiting for the race (Corral B), although I did get a little cold and I probably drank too much before the start of the race so I had to make my first ever mid-race bathroom break.

The course was pretty good-but I'm not too picky abut where I run. I enjoyed the run through both parks (especailly the DCA bathroom!), there were some characters out (no lines for pictures when I went through). After we left the parks, there was one overpass-not bad, and then a few miles on the streets of Anaheim before you get to the Stadium area. There was a neat mariachi band and Mexican folk dancing and also a hula group (not the same location!) I liked the one section by the big drainage canal. The path was dirt/gravel and it was interesting to see a drainage canal up close (instead of in the movies!). The stadium was neat, and after that it was only a couple of miles after that to the finish, so the time seemed to go by pretty quickly.

I was not racing for time--treating it like the LR I was supposed to do that day. That said, I went out and ran faster than my plan said. But I felt good, comfortable and just ran at the pace I felt like. I felt good at the end, so decided to run the last mile faster. I finished in 1:53:39

Got my DL medal and my coast to coast medal--they are hefty. Yeah for bling! Grabbed some food and then my DH took a picture of me at one of the signs/banners and back to the hotel we went.

So a good race--I achieved one of my goals for the year: Basically to "enjoy the race" and pay attention to the surroundings. I think I did that this time (although I did miss one of the Cheer groups that was out there)

Hope everyone else had a good time, too.

Maura

I'm not much for trip reports, but I just wanted to say Congrats to everyone who started a race this weekend. Also, Congrats to everyone who Finished their race this weekend as well. What a great time it was at Disneyland. Thanks to all the WISHers I got to hang out with this weekend and to any new WISHers I met along the way!!!

Just ThunderMatt and I up in corral A, so we never saw anyone else until after the finish line.

Set a new PR of 1:47:54, and collected the Legacy Runner and Coast to Coast Medals. Five years of paying the Mouse to run through his house. :lmao:

Congrats Maura, Chris and Jeff!!! Love the lanyard on the coast to coast!

PR at DL half 2:07:08. Not bad as I never really felt good about my run. Perhaps too much park activity on Saturday. I wasn't real impressed with the race as compared to the Princess Half, but the C2C medal is awesome. I did get to both meets and got to put some names to faces. Enjoyed to talking to everyone.

Jeff - while we were waiting in the corrals, we heard the announcer say something about the WISH team being represented. ??? I guess they were referring to you guys since you were in corral A? I thought that was pretty cool. Congrats on the PR! :thumbsup2

Maura - outstanding race! Glad you were able to enjoy the surroundings this time around.

I enjoyed the DL race. Here are a few of my observations of the weekend in a nutshell:

1. Expo was nice. Saw a few WISHers there - Pat, Jim, Anne, Robert, Karen, John, Matt, Cheryl, Jeff & Marcia.

2. Saw World of Color on Friday night with Pat, Jim, Karen & John. Nice!

5K

3. My first Disney 5K. It was very much a fun run. Very congested in parts causing the participants to move very slowly. Ran out of medals at the end with the notion that they were on the way and would arrive within an hour after the race. This never happened. Our medals will now be mailed to us. I felt badly for those doing the 5K only and for the children.

4. Food and water at the end - hard to get to. This was setup on a narrow strip causing mass congestion. I suspect this will be changed next year.

5. Could not exit park area afer the race. I'm still not sure what this was all about. After exiting the California park (where the race ended) we had to go through Downtown DL to get to our hotel on Harbor Blvd. At one end of the Downtown area, you have to go through a bag check area to get to the park exit. No one was allowed through. The crowd was being held back for some reason. This went on for around 20 minutes (?) Very frustrating.

Half-marathon

6. Staying at a hotel next to DL meant that I didn't have to get to the starting area two hours early. NICE! We left our hotel around 5:15 for the 6:00 race. Got in the corral in PLENTY of time. Along the way, we found a slew of porta-potties that had very little lines. We took advantage of this. Just around the corner there were more porta-potties with long lines. We kind of scratched our heads on that one because you had to pass the first set to get to the second set.

7. Great spectator and entertainment support. Loved running through the Angel stadium. There were a lot of people there cheering us on - much more than I thought there would be. Lots of cheering and dancing groups throughout the course. Very nice!

8. Weather was good. Started out in low 60's with high humidity. The cloud cover throughout most of the race was nice as it did get a little warm toward the end. Much better conditions than two years ago.

9. Didn't see many WISHers along the way...that I recognized. I know there are quite a few not wearing the shirts. I wasn't wearing my shirt this time but I did wear the visor.

10. By the time I finished, the only food available was bagels, bananas and oranges. I had heard there were cliff bars and other items but all of that was gone. There was plenty of water and powerade at the end. Some people were able to score bags to carry the items in which was nice. I usually try to carry a plastic grocery bag with me just for this purpose. Oh, the towel at the end was nice, too!

11. Love the 5th anniversary and the coast-to-coast medals!

12. Overall, I had a great time! It's Disney - it's hard not to enjoy it. :goodvibes
