Just ThunderMatt and I up in corral A, so we never saw anyone else until after the finish line.
Set a new PR of 1:47:54, and collected the Legacy Runner and Coast to Coast Medals. Five years of paying the Mouse to run through his house.
Jeff - while we were waiting in the corrals, we heard the announcer say something about the WISH team being represented. ??? I guess they were referring to you guys since you were in corral A? I thought that was pretty cool. Congrats on the PR!
Maura - outstanding race! Glad you were able to enjoy the surroundings this time around.
I enjoyed the DL race. Here are a few of my observations of the weekend in a nutshell:
1. Expo was nice. Saw a few WISHers there - Pat, Jim, Anne, Robert, Karen, John, Matt, Cheryl, Jeff & Marcia.
2. Saw World of Color on Friday night with Pat, Jim, Karen & John. Nice!
5K
3. My first Disney 5K. It was very much a fun run. Very congested in parts causing the participants to move very slowly. Ran out of medals at the end with the notion that they were on the way and would arrive within an hour after the race. This never happened. Our medals will now be mailed to us. I felt badly for those doing the 5K only and for the children.
4. Food and water at the end - hard to get to. This was setup on a narrow strip causing mass congestion. I suspect this will be changed next year.
5. Could not exit park area afer the race. I'm still not sure what this was all about. After exiting the California park (where the race ended) we had to go through Downtown DL to get to our hotel on Harbor Blvd. At one end of the Downtown area, you have to go through a bag check area to get to the park exit. No one was allowed through. The crowd was being held back for some reason. This went on for around 20 minutes (?) Very frustrating.
Half-marathon
6. Staying at a hotel next to DL meant that I didn't have to get to the starting area two hours early. NICE! We left our hotel around 5:15 for the 6:00 race. Got in the corral in PLENTY of time. Along the way, we found a slew of porta-potties that had very little lines. We took advantage of this. Just around the corner there were more porta-potties with long lines. We kind of scratched our heads on that one because you had to pass the first set to get to the second set.
7. Great spectator and entertainment support. Loved running through the Angel stadium. There were a lot of people there cheering us on - much more than I thought there would be. Lots of cheering and dancing groups throughout the course. Very nice!
8. Weather was good. Started out in low 60's with high humidity. The cloud cover throughout most of the race was nice as it did get a little warm toward the end. Much better conditions than two years ago.
9. Didn't see many WISHers along the way...that I recognized. I know there are quite a few not wearing the shirts. I wasn't wearing my shirt this time but I did wear the visor.
10. By the time I finished, the only food available was bagels, bananas and oranges. I had heard there were cliff bars and other items but all of that was gone. There was plenty of water and powerade at the end. Some people were able to score bags to carry the items in which was nice. I usually try to carry a plastic grocery bag with me just for this purpose. Oh, the towel at the end was nice, too!
11. Love the 5th anniversary and the coast-to-coast medals!
12. Overall, I had a great time! It's Disney - it's hard not to enjoy it.
