A young girl at work, came into work this week telling us all her boyfirend ask her to marry him on V-day. We were all happy for her on Monday.Today she told us that he bought the ring from QVC. We all sort of looked at each other. Of course one of the women said oh honey it is not real then. I had to to say it could be and she would not let it go. So does anyone know if QVC sells real diamond rings? This poor girl, I dont know why the guy told her where he bought it.

Yes, QVC has a line called "Affinity Diamonds", which are real diamonds. Don't know about the quality, but they are real.

It depends on the type of diamond her fiance bought.. QVC sell lab created, as well as genuine diamonds. Best thing to do is to either look at the receipt, which I doubt will happen.. or take it to a jeweler.

Shame on the woman who said that her ring isn't real! Talk about rude!

Poor girl. :sad2:
I bet she wanted to crawl under a table!

Just wanted to echo this comment regarding QVC's "Affinity Diamond" line. How do I know this as a guy? Because two family members in our household consistently watch this channel, and with living in the same house your bound to see some of the stuff they are selling :rolleyes1

They are not your typical diamond though that we have all been used to, I have never seen QVC have any GIA certified diamonds so your not going to know Color, Clarity, Carat or Cut (Darn never remember the last one!) LOL. Not sure if other QVC'ers have decided to go this route and attempt to have their diamonds certified by GIA or another affiliate if there is one.

Agreed!

I mean, it's important to know the value of the ring so that you can get it insured for loss or theft, but gosh, why should anyone else care (other than the owner for insurance reasons or really snooty reasons) if it's a diamond or diamonique or whatever?

I have my "real" engament and wedding set that my DH proposed with, it beautiful yellow gold. Well a couple years ago I saw this white gold wedding set on QVC that I loved, but hesitated to ask DH to get it for me for our anniversary cuz it was QVC's simulated diamond. I ended up asking him to get it for me and I am sooooo pleased with it. Here is a link to the set from QVC http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/...ique-235-ct-tw-Princess-2pc-Ring-Set-14K-Gold
Its beautiful and I get compliments on it all the time.
I love having both a yellow gold and a white gold set to wear depending on the color gold or silver I am wearing for that day.

So I agree, shame on that person who told her its not real.
So what if its not real. If I had it to do all over again, I would have told DH to save his money and get me the simulated wedding set.

Um... it's the thought that counts! Perhaps he was proud that is where it came from!

I must say that I feel bad for the girl and the guy... he did the best he could (who knows how much it cost) and the girl was happy... until a meddling co-worker interjected her two cents. If the girls needs to know more, and is not comfy with asking her new fiance, then on her own she should research QVC's website or pay for a jewelry appraisal, however, she needs to do that on her own... she does not need anymore meddling or interference from co-workers!

QVC does sell diamonds. What if it was diamonique? What if she knew it was diamonique, if it in fact was? Would it have made the ring any less pretty, or would it mean he loves her any less? :confused3

AGS is the other "quality" authority for graded diamonds. There are other labs out there that are considered inferior to GIA and AGS such as EGL, EGS, etc.

As for the 4-C's, you already mentioned there.. there isn't another one :)

That's really pretty! I like it a lot, I have one similar to that. I have a "real" set that I don't wear, and a "Bella Luce" that I wear 24-7. I'm much more comfortable wearing the CZ set because if it's lost or damaged, I'm only out a couple hundred bucks. Sure I'll be really sad because of the sentimental value, but it means I get to pick a new set that I like, no insurance claims involved.

Shame on the woman who said it isn't real. That's totally uncouth, and very uncalled for. Who peed in her cheerios?

I've been married for 7 years and I don't have a real diamond. I don't see the point in them they arent that rare and only have the value they do cause companies control the supply and for some reason women demand them. I like colored stones myself much cheaper and nicer in my opinion. oh yea and anyone who tells someone their ring is fake is a mean hearted sob in my book. When a man asked a women to marry him its the question and fact he wants to spen the rest of his life with that person that holds meaning not the ring.

As you can see by my signature I am a breast cancer survivor. After surgery including axillary node disection, radiation and chemo my left hand is slightly bigger. I bought myself a beautiful 3 stone Diamonique set after all was done just as a pick me up since my "real" diamond set didn't fit anymore. The stones are larger than anything I would have bought real. I recieve compliments everyday on my rings which never happened with the ''real" ones. I just purchased a white gold set because It was pretty. It was a quilt free purchase, it did not break the budget, and it also gets compliments every where I go.
Shame on your coworker for not minding her own business.

Totally agree!! My DFi and I discussed this at leangth. He was pushing to spend the big bucks and get me the "dream" ring. I am a practical girl and told him I would be happy with a moissanite "dream" ring.

We finally settled on my favorite gemstone, a 3 carat aquamarine, with pave diamonds surrounding it. It cost him MUCH less than he would have spent and I am beyond happy with it. It's a conversation starter. People always ask what it is and why I picked a gemstone instead of a diamond and I am more than happy to be the unconventional bride!

And to answer the question, yes, QVC sell affinity diamonds, I have a nice cross from them that shines so bright! I just don't think they sell certified diamonds. I also agree that it was rude for the woman to tell her it's fake. Not nice!!

Tell your friend that Clark Howard purchased a diamond over the internet and Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO) purchased a ring from Costco. If they are savvy I'm sure your friend's fiance is equally so!

haha! Sorry.. I became an expert when buying my DW her diamond ring. I get asked questions all the time now.

I love that!!! Men with money who are also practical!

I didn't want a big showy ring, so we bought mine off of Ebay!!!!! My DH loves to tell everyone where it was bought and what we paid for it. ($69.00). We had it appraised when we had it sized, and it is real. It appraised for almost $900.00. I love the fact that we shopped smart!

I SO agree with this.

Diamonds are pretty, I guess. I mean, I wouldn't be bummed if my BF gave me one. But there are other stones I think are so much prettier. I have a friend whose BF proposed with a garnet, her favorite stone. It's prettier than any of the diamonds I've seen. And kudos to her now DH for knowing what her fave stone is.

Personally, I think spending 2 months salary or whatever it is on a ring is ridiculous. I don't know too many wealthy people around here. If my BF ever spent that kind of money on a ring, I'd probably 1. love it and appreciate him but 2. be thinking in my head...omg, that could have been 4 months rent...
