Only one low: I had booked the HNY in just my name but had made sure to email a week before to explain that I would be adding on guests and paying the taxes on arrival. I never had an acknowledgement to this email and lo and behold I had been allocated a room with one king-size bed. The girl on check-in was a trainee so had to go and fetch someone senior. This someone was called Ghislaine (I think that was how it was spelt) and what a misery she was. The trainee was perfectly friendly but Ghislaine was almost rude. She certainly made me feel most uncomfortable, as if I had done something wrong although I explained that I had emailed in advance to explain and had booked like this many times before. She was very grudging and never smiled. It was a very unwelcome start and if this had been a first visit would have been thoroughly off-putting. She wanted to charge me for a complete new booking for three people but I stood my ground about only paying the taxes. The situation was only mitigated by another cast member, Ricarrdo, who came across from another post while the miserable Ghislaine went backstage. He came up smiling and saying hello; he said that he recognised us as frequent visitors and from his time in City hall and was very friendly.

I realise this won’t be an issue soon if they stop the room tax add-on method of booking (boo, hiss) but I really think that particular cast member we encountered needs to go back to Disney School to learn how to treat guests in a warm and helpful manner.

Other than that it was all good, highs: Our room (at just about the furthest end of Gramercy but I was just glad to have two beds by then!) was clean and comfortable, breakfast was great and CMs were helpful in seating me and DS nice and close to the food as he can’t serve and carry for himself. DH only stayed the first night then drove off – not in a huff, it was pre-arranged like that!

Meeting up with a Dis-boarder we had once sponsored was lovely. We had kept in contact sporadically ever since meeting for the sponsorship and discovered shortly beforehand that we had coincidentally booked the same dates. We did some rides and watched Dreams together and generally caught up. It was really good to see her again and meet her boyfriend too. Both lovely people.

We had nice weather on the whole for the time of year including two days of beautiful sunshine and blue skies. No rain at all which was a blessing. The parks were pretty quiet and apart from Pinocchio and the Molly Brown there were no ride closures that affected us.

“Proper” Dreams is so much better than Disney Dreams of Christmas IMHO and we had great views (from in front of the control building). Watched each night.

We saw loads of characters, the Stars and Cars greet is particularly good as the characters change at intervals throughout the session. We also caught Donald Duck at the end of EMH on our last day who DS has missed on the last few trips so he was very happy.

DS who has autistic tendencies had a bit of an obsession with Tinkerbelle on the balloon in the Village who had the audacity to be facing away every time we passed on our way to and from the HNY. He just could not fathom out how she had disappeared and kept pacing up and down looking for her. Fortunately while we were sat in EOS on our last day the balloon had spun round and there she was, right where she should be. DS was so excited that she had come back and I took some photos quickly. :thumbsup2

A great trip!

Welcome back! Sounds like a lovely trip you had. Sorry for rude CM. It depends so much from these people and I think you should be nice to your hotel guests.

Welcome back
100% agreed on DDOC - it wasnt a patch on the standard Dreams.
Glad your DS got to spy Tink on the balloon before ye left.
And what a crabby CM - I think it's terrible to belittle or intimidate anyone for utilising one of the AP privileges! It's wasn't rule breaking, I would word a little email to guest relations about your lovely stay but give a quick mention to the less than magical behaviour of the aforementioned CM. It's always worthwhile as they appreciate it. You could also mention Ricardo's warm welcome if you don't want the email to feel like an outright complaint.
Thanks for sharing x

I remember once seeing the inside of the door of a service room (a kitchen, or changing room or something) in the Santa Fe Hotel. On the inside, eye high,(not visible for guests) was a sheet of paper saying things like "before you exit this room: are your clothes in order? is your hair and make up in order? do you have a SMILE on your face?" I really liked that. Maybe they should have an instruction sheet like that at the HNY, for those who need to be reminded :confused3

But sorry about your experience; fortunately enough, many highs to make up for it :thumbsup2

Glad you enjoyed the most of your trip and didn't let a grumpy CM ruin your trip :)

Thanks, I think I might email, I'd been a bit wary in case she remembered me next time I visit and is even nastier!

Good idea, a smile makes all the difference. I don't know why this CM was working there, she was older and had probably been there too long as she obviously thought it was all too much bother. Thankfully most are more enthusiastic.

Guests giving information back really is the only way DLP has to properly gauge the satisfaction of the guests and their experience, Both good and bad. Take the time to write so miss grumpy pant can get some additional training and it also goes into the record. The same for good service, it is nice for the CM's to have their efforts noted and they get a little something at staff meetings.

Glad you had a great time Cherry. But sorry to hear about the grumpy CM - I have encountered them before in the hotels - thankfully not often. But Disney or not, if they are going to work in that type of service industry, they should give service with a smile. Can't believe she was going to try and charge you for a new booking for 3!! If nothing else, she needs retraining on the service they offer.

That photo of your DS with Donald is priceless - how fab! :lovestruc

I can't seem to find anything about this remark: I realise this won’t be an issue soon if they stop the room tax add-on method of booking.

Are they changing this so you can't add on extra persons by only paying the room tax? When are they changing this? I can't find anything about this.

Did I imagine that this was proposed then? I hope so but was sure I had read somewhere that the loophole was being closed. Not sure where or when and having done a search I can find nothing about it so perhaps I am mistaken. If so I apologise for alarming anyone. :o

AH! Love that photo of your DS and Donald! I always love your TR's because his face just sums up the magic of Disney perfectly! Lovely highs. I love Dreams, haven't seen the Christmas one but I wouldn't want to change it from what it is now, my personal favourite bit is the Brave section! So glad you had a lovely trip!

Shocking attitude from the HNY cast member, I hope you get some response from DLP with regards that.

What a lovely picture Cherry :goodvibes Glad you had such a good time and boo to the grumpy cm:sad2:

ps -have you been to the bakery yet ? It's really good and we are so pleased that it's our local ;)

Thank you Carrie, and oh yes, LOVE the bakery!!! My favourite is the smoked salmon and spinach tarts... mmmm. Mind you I haven't tried everything yet. ;)

Welcome back, such a shame you encountered such poor customer service, thank goodness you've been enough times to know this is an exception not the norm. Glad the rest of your trip was fun, lovely photo :)

Glad to hear you had a fab trip.

A friend who stayed at the Sequoia Lodge last week had the same trouble at check it. He also sent a confirmation e-mail that he wanted to add two additional people to his room. The CM on reception wanted to charge him for a complete new booking for his wife and daughter when he checked in. But he also stood his ground and only paid the additional room taxes.

I wonder if this is a new policy being tested out?

Great photos with Donald and Goofy!

I love your photos!:) Sorry too for the "not so magical" check in - so good that you were gracious in the middle of it. Wishing you many happy returns!pixiedust:
