DH, DS (who will be 5) and myself will be doing a quick trip to WDW just before our trip on DCL. It will be 4 nights 5 days, we normally stay 9 nights and go to the parks for 10 days. This will be mid December 2014, I am wanting to stay at a deluxe for sure.......so what one?
As far as deluxe resorts we have stayed at AKL, loved it and this year we are going on a family reunion trip and staying at WL, I think I may just fall in love with it! In the past we have always rented a car, but in 2014 I just might use WDW transportation....also staying less days makes me think that we should stay at a nice resort and one that has good transportation

I suggest skipping deluxe and using that money to splurge on the boat, say a couples villa at the Vista Spa or an excursion in every port. I also recommend putting Disney in front and after cruise. This last March we had to rent a car from the port due to the time of our flight, rather a pain, plus it took the magic out of the trip. So the reason for before and after... If you go with magical express and a Disney cruise transfer the only time you will ever have to handle your own luggage is in your home town :) Plus I would stay at the French Quarter. It is super quaint and feels like a deluxe :cloud9: I have stayed at many mods and deluxe so know the difference. The deluxe hotels are great but in truth I am never there enough to warrant spending that kind of cash.

If you do fall in love with the WL (which I'm sure you will ;)), WL CL would be a great choice. The WL is my favorite during the holidays, add CL and it's even more amazing. The lobby is beautifully decorated and as the lounge seating is arranged around the railing over looking the lobby, it's so relaxing sitting in the lounge watching the people come and go from the lodge. With that said, if you want to try a new resort, the Poly or GF would be my choice. Good luck and happy planning :wizard:.

Staying before and after is a good idea, I cruise returns on Dec 20th so I was thinking the parks maybe crowded the 20th of December and afterwards. But I may just stay 1 or 2 night, DS will be on break and this way I can get a taste of how busy WDW during Christmas. Thanks for the idea!

My vote goes to WL CL as well. It's even more special at Christmas with all of the decorations. My second choice would be GF, for the same reason.
