quick - someone feel sorry for me - NEVERMIND! update on page 3

You guys are all so cool! Unfortunately my daughter got sick every 20 or 30 minutes until about 4am with little cat naps in between. She's sleeping now. I couldn't believe her body could get sick that many times! It was tough to watch her hurt so much.

The current plan is to wait until this evening and drive through tonight. It just puts us a day behind. However, tomorrow is supposed to be our Epcot day and it looks like we'll miss it. So much for ADRs and "best day for each park" planning. We might still be able to do dinner there - provided my daughter even wants to LOOK at food by then!

Let's just hope we make it out tonight.

Again, thanks for all the well wishes.

I hope by now your DD is much better, and more importantly, i hope the illness does not work it's way slowly through the rest of your family. Good luck! I do hope that you get to leave soon (or have already left) and that no one else gets sick.

How old is your DD? It is so easy for little ones to get dehydrated, dont let her go on vommiting without taking in some kid of fluid. Try some pedialyte. My DS had a really bad episode of vommiting when he was just over 2 and was in the hospital for 2 days on IVF. They were going to send him home from the ER but he couldnt tolerate the pedialyte.

I am praying for your family! Just think...once she is all better, you will head to WDW together for a fantastic time!

You should try to get her some Phenegren (mispelled sorry) It works great with my DD who is 6. Your DD sound very sick with this virus. :sad2: I usually get it bad like her, constantly vomiting for 24 hrs. usually. Just watch for dehydration. Hopefully you will be on your way tonight! :goodvibes

My daughter is 10. I do worry about the hydration issue. She has been sick like this in the past and not had any major long term issues. Most memorable was the time before another vacation - no kidding - we had to cancel that one altogether because it was only a weekend trip to an indoor waterpark. We rescheduled it and she got the chickpox the day we were due to leave! We finally got to go on the third try a couple of months later. Someone doesn't want us to take vacations - she only missed 3 days of school this year so it's not like she ALWAYS sick. Oh well.

And, yes, I'm also worried about my 6 year old getting it - I'm keeping him as far away from her as I can!

And, yes, I never thought I'd be dying to hear "are we there yet?"

As soon as the vomiting stops get water and or gater aid into him so he soes not get dehydrated. They have the ice pops especially for this I forgot the name that are great - the cold feels good on the kids mouths. Hydration is very very important

I hope your DD is feeling better very soon. Don't worry about missing the things you have planned. Sometimes the best trips are the ones that go off schedule!

Be careful driving!

Kristen

I hope she starts feeling better soon!

Maybe from now on you shouldn't tell your DD of your vacation plans and just suprise her when you are on the way, since she seems to get sick before vacations :goodvibes

Hope your daughter feels better, one of my DSs came down with something similar while we were at WDW years ago.

To all, call your pediatrician. He may say do the following (I am not a doctor, just parroting instructions I have been given): Use Pedialyte or the non-brand meant specifically for kids. It is low in sugar (sports drinks are not and cause fluid to be drawn from the body into the stomach, making dehydration in kids worse). Administer 5cc (5ml or or one teaspoon) every five minutes while vomiting and loose bowel movements persist. Once the symptoms have eased feed only a bland diet for 24 hours, you know, the BRAT stuff, bananas, rice, apple sauce (some difference of opinion here) and dry toast to give the raw stomach and intestinal lining a chance to recover.

My boys got a lot of intestinal junk as babies and toddlers, and we had one bout of Rotavirus when one ended up in the hospital because of dehydration. I learned my lesson, the very hard scary way.

I'm so sorry she is sick...poor thing. My biggest fear is my kids (ages 3 & 4) getting sick before we leave. We fly out Wednesday night and all I keep thinking is one of them will be throwing up and then what? We are coming from Washington state, so missing our flight is really not an option. I'm just being paranoid but sometimes you can't help wonder what will go wrong when you spend so much time and money on planning such a big trip.

I just had to give you guys an update. She got sick on Thursday night just before we were ready to leave around 8pm. Threw up until 4am. Took her to the doctor Friday afternoon and she was given IV fluids. Everyone was right about dehydration! She look 100 times better after the fluids and everyone we know that has had this said 24 hours duration. So we got in the car Friday night at 7 pm and drove. Both my kids did great and my daughter slept most of the day. I had planned on scrapping Epcot plans for Saturday as we didn't arrive in Orlando until about 10am.

HOWEVER, and here's the part you'll all really want to hear. I took the kids at about 1pm (while my husband slept after driving all night) and had a GREAT time. This was, of course, counter to all of the advice I learned here and from TGM about being there early so it felt like I was sinning. However, the only real lines were for test track and soarin and I was able to get fast passes for both (just barely - they did eventually run out of FP by mid afternoon for TT and late afternoon for Soarin. Actually, we did stand in the 45 Soarin line one time. Now my family will understand and appreciate why I'll be racing for fast passes the rest of the week! The stand by line for Test Track was 100 minutes long. We didn't really get to tour the World but stayed in Future World where there were lots of air conditioned shows. We had to cancel the lunch ADR as we missed it but had an AWESOME dinner at Garden Grill. It was my daughter's first real meal since being sick and she did great. My husband got to the park for dinner and we used the fast passeds I had been gathering to do TT and Soarin together. We stayed for fireworks and then got a good night sleep. My daughter's at the pool now with my husband and son. I'm heading out to join them (I needed some extra rest this morning!) However, I want to tell all of you who are worried about your kids getting sick - go with the flow. It IS a lot of planning but someone said earlier that the best times are sometimes unplanned ones.

I'll tell Mickey you all said HI!
